ADVENT—The meaning of Advent and the Advent Wreath

The purple candle for weeks 1 and 2 recall the need for repentance as we prepare to celebrate the gift of Christ’s birth.

In week 3 the rose candle symbolises the anticipation and joy of knowing Christmas is drawing near.

The fourth week of the purple candle reminds us to renew our relationship with God for Christ’s birthday.

JOY — REJOICE THE LORD IS AMONG US

The Candle of Joy. Joy is like an underground spring that wells up within us. Like a muscle, it needs to be exercised. So today, we open ourselves to joy, trusting that God already planted it in us. All we need to do is give it care and offer it to share.

Advent Prayer

Loving God, let us rejoice that you are with us in all that we do and say. Be our strength and guide, and fill us with hope and trust that you will one day lead us to the path of eternal joy and freedom. Come, Lord Jesus, let us rejoice. Amen.

Saturday: Vigil 6.00pm

Sunday: 8.30am 10.00am 5.00pm

Eucharistic Adoration: Thursday 9.30am—1pm followed by Benediction

Let the wilderness and the dry-lands exult, let the

wasteland rejoice and bloom, let it bring forth flowers

like the jonquil, let it rejoice and sing for joy. The

glory of Lebanon is bestowed on it, the splendour

of Carmel and Sharon; they shall see the glory of the

Lord, the splendour of our God. Strengthen all weary

hands, steady all trembling knees and say to all faint

hearts, ‘Courage! Do not be afraid. ‘Look, your God

is coming, vengeance is coming, the retribution of

God; he is coming to save you.’

Then the eyes of the blind shall be opened, the ears of

the deaf unsealed, then the lame shall leap like a deer

and the tongues of the dumb sing for joy, for those the

Lord has ransomed shall return. They will come

to Zion shouting for joy, everlasting joy on their faces;

joy and gladness will go with them and sorrow and

lament be ended.

John in his prison had heard what Christ was doing and

he sent his disciples to ask him, ‘Are you the one who

is to come, or have we got to wait for someone else?’

Jesus answered, ‘Go back and tell John what you hear

and see; the blind see again, and the lame walk, lepers

are cleansed, and the deaf hear, and the dead are raised

to life and the Good News is proclaimed to the poor;

and happy is the man who does not lose faith in me.’

As the messengers were leaving, Jesus began to talk to

the people about John: ‘What did you go out into the

wilderness to see? A reed swaying in the breeze? No?

Then what did you go out to see? A man wearing fine

clothes? Oh no, those who wear fine clothes are to be

found in palaces. Then what did you go out for? To see

a prophet? Yes, I tell you, and much more than a

prophet: he is the one of whom scripture says: Look, I

am going to send my messenger before you; he will

prepare your way before you. I tell you solemnly, of all

the children born of women, a greater than John the

Baptist has never been seen; yet the least in the

kingdom of heaven is greater than he is.’

Sisters of Our Lady of the Missions RNDM offer you the chance of giving a special gift that makes a difference in their overseas missions. See the back of the church for the pamphlet “Mission Christmas Gift Catalogue” along with an order form and contact details.

Baptism

Last week we welcomed Chanel Cicirello to God’s family.

Congratulations to Chanel and her family.

Thursday Adoration

Fr Jeronimo thanks all who attend Thursday Adoration for your commitment to this special quiet time with the Lord which is very important.

To allow some holiday time to everyone, we advise that the Thursday Adoration will be in recess from Thursday, 12 December 2019 and will re-commence early February, 2020.

Christmas Timetable Flyers

A map of St Peter’s parish boundaries is at the back of the church (Wood St side) along with Christmas Timetable flyers.

Parishioners are invited to take a number of these flyers and letter drop them in your street.

Please put your name and street on the sheets at the back of the church so we know which streets have

been canvassed.

The boundary commences at Lawrence St, to Bowden St,

Carrington St, First Ave, Walter Rd, Wordsworth Ave, Elsegood St and Randall St and all Streets

in between.

Thank you for your help.

Children’s Liturgy in 2020

We will be on holidays until school returns next year.

May God bless you and your family and thank you for supporting St Peter’s Children’s Liturgy

in 2019.

A Gift for a Christmas Baby

We are collecting new (or good used) baby items to put in a special present box to give to Pregnancy Assistance for a Christmas baby – just like giving a

present to baby Jesus.

. Bring your item along to Children’s Liturgy or put it in the box at the back of the church and we will

deliver it to Pregnancy Assistance before Christmas.

Parish Annual General Meeting

Thank you to all who attended the AGM on Sunday, 1 December, and for your interest and input into parish matters.

Reports and Minutes are available at the back of the church. You are welcome to peruse them, but please do not remove them from the church.

Be patient, brothers, until the Lord’s coming. Think of a

farmer: how patiently he waits for the precious fruit of

the ground until it has had the autumn rains and the

spring rains! You too have to be patient; do not lose

heart, because the Lord’s coming will be soon. Do not

make complaints against one another, brothers, so as not

to be brought to judgement yourselves; the Judge is

already to be seen waiting at the gates. For your

example, brothers, in submitting with patience, take the

prophets who spoke in the name of the Lord.

The Gospel of the Lord. Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ.

St Vincent de Paul

The Bedford Conference will again be selling tickets in their raffle this week with prizes being drawn after the Sunday 10am Mass.

BE IN IT TO WIN IT!!!!!

Thank You…. To all our volunteers who came to the social evening last Friday, and to those who were unable to attend. It was an evening of good cheer, fellowship and great food.

Thanks also to those who prepared, cooked and served the meal, and also everyone who helped set up the hall and cleaned up afterwards.
