The Holy Family of Jesus, Mary, and Joseph:

On this Sunday after Christmas, we celebrate the Feast of the Holy Family: Jesus, Mary, and Joseph. We often have a tranquil picture of the Holy Family: ‘Silent Night, Holy Night.’ So it must have been most of the time. But, today’s Gospel (Luke 2:41-52) described an event shattered their tranquility: the anguish of searching for missing child.

Why did Jesus go AWOL (Absence Without Official Leave)? I have no simple answer, but I would like to offer you two perspectives of ‘three days.’ St. Paul emphasizes in his letter to Corinthians that Jesus rose from the dead on the “third day.” (I Corinthians 15:3-4) Losing and then finding Jesus has some relationship to the events of his death, burial and resurrection, in general.

What we can take away from celebrating the Feast of the Holy Family are these words of St. Pail in today’s second reading: “Put on… heartfelt compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience, bearing with one another and forgiving one… another as the Lord has forgiven you, so must you also do. And above all these, put on Love, that is, the bond of perfection.” Colossians 3:12-21

All family members are challenged by today’s feast: to love, to forgive and to become One Family.

“May the Lord Bless you and protect you. May the Lord smiles on you and be gracious to you. May the Lord show you his favor and give you His peace.” Number 6:24-26

La Sagrada familia de Jesús, María y José:

En este domingo después de Navidad, celebramos la fiesta de la Sagrada Familia: Jesús, María y José. Nosotros frecuentemente tenemos una imagen tranquila de la Sagrada Familia: “Noche de Paz, Noche Celestial” “Todo es calma, Todo es Luz” Y así debe haber sido la mayor parte del tiempo. Pero, hoy el evangelio de San Lucas 2, 41-52 describe un evento que (rompe o destroza) su tranquilidad: la angustia de un hijo perdido.

¿Por qué Jesús se apartó sin permiso de sus padres? No es una respuesta simple, pero me gustaría ofrecerles dos perspectivas de “tres días” San Pablo enfatiza en sus cartas a los Corintios que Jesús resucito de la muerte en “el tercer día” 1a. Corintios 15 3-4 El perder y encontrar a Jesús tiene una relación con los eventos de su muerte, sepultura y resurrección en general.

Lo que podemos tomar de la celebración de la fiesta de la Sagrada Familia son estas palabras de St. Paul en la segunda lectura de hoy: Pónganse, pues, la vestidura de los elegidos de Dios, sus santos muy queridos: La compasión, la bondad, la humildad, la mansedumbre, y la paciencia. Sopórtense y perdónense los unos a los otros si uno tiene motivo de queja contra otro. Como el Señor los perdonó, a su vez hagan ustedes lo mismo. Por encima de esta vestidura pondrán como cinturón el amor, que lo hace todo perfecto.

llamados hoy en esta fiesta a: Amar, Perdonar y a ser

Una Sola Familia.

“Que el Señor te bendiga y te proteja; que el Señor te mire con agrado y te muestre su bon-dad; que el Señor te mire con amor y te conce-da la paz.” Números 6:24-26

Knights of Columbus Free Throw Contest

All boys and girls ages 9 to 14 are invited to participate in the local level of competition for the 2016 Knights of Columbus Free Throw Contest. The competition will take place on Jan. 17th at 1 PM in the Gym. Winners will progress through local district and state competitions. International champions are announced by the Knights of Columbus headquarters based upon scores from the state-level competitions.All contestants on the local level are recognized for their participation in this event. Participants are required to furnish proof of age and written parental consent.
