Directions from Trywardreath - map and more info available in centre page

Follow the main road up and out of the village. This will take you past Trenython Manor on your right. Keep going to the crossroads at the top of the hill at Castledore (no castle, just a road junction!). At the crossroads go straight over the main road, towards Golant, go down the hill and past the crossroads. You will come to a fork in the road, at the fork keep right and go down the steep hill into the village and down to the edge of the estuary. Head up past the Fisher-mans Arms with it on your right and with the sea behine you. Go up the hill past a row of cottages on both sides, a small dead end road goes off to the left at the top and leads to a footpath, so follow this dead end road and join the path that leads away from the end of the road over a few stiles. The Fowey estuary will now be on your left hand side! Follow this trail (don’t fork off onto smaller paths) the path will drop down a hill into a creek valley with a building at the bottom and a bridge over a stream. This is Sawmills recording studio where famous bands like Oasis and Pink Floyd have recorded music over the years.

Cross over the bridge and go right up the path and through the woods (don’t fork off onto smaller paths into the woods as you walk up the hill) to the gate at the top. This leads across a field to another gate. Go through this, passing a barn and buildings on your left. Keep the buildings close on your left and turn immediately left onto a road (follow saints way) and follow this down for approx ¾ mile, going over a bridge over a private road until you reach a T junction. At the T junction turn left and walk along the road until you reach Fowey. Keep following this road and it takes you into the centre of the town. Fowey is a great place to get some well earned lunch!

Follow the main road round to the right and then immediately left, there will be a church on your right and a butchers straight in front of you. Follow the road keeping the butchers on your right and the cashpoint on your left and follow the road around to the right and up the hill for about 50 metres. Turn left onto Esplanade (road) and follow this along, past a trendy cafe and nice houses. The estuary should still be on your left! Go past the Fowey hotel on your right and carry straight on to Readymoney cove (don’t turn off onto roads to your right). When you get to Readymoney cove follow the road past the top of the beach as it narrows into a path. Keep right and then follow the path up the hill to the right, do not follow the path left towards the sea (near the NT sign for Covington Woods), but keep on the path on the edge of the woods. You are now on the Saints Way! Keep going straight (a fork goes off to your left up some steps, don’t go this way), to the end of the path, onto a road. Turn left onto this road with a sign following the Saints Way.

Follow this to a T junction then turn right following the sign for the Saints Way. Now look out for the Bee Mindful Quest marker and locate the treasure and add your name to the log book. Help yourself to a badge or other treat and carry on with your journey.

Pass the rugby club on your left hand side and continue for a short distance (about 200m) until you go past a couple of houses on your left (and a post box) and a junction on your right (Lankelly Lane). Look for a Saints Way marker sign pointing left down the side of a property with a gate at the end (there’s normally a veg and jam stand outside one of the houses). This path takes you along and down past a field with pigs in and across a stream at the bottom. Keep following the path under a small bridge and up the hill, over the stile, going straight along a path between a hedge and fence. The path will take you alongside a big house and pond. Keep following the path up and across another stile, along the side of a field, down some steps and eventually over another small bridge up to a farm. Go through the farm yard, turn right and follow the road up past a small chapel to the T junction (road) at the top. Turn right at the T junction (with the Saints way sign) on to the road for about 100m then turn left onto a path across a field (public footpath sign). When you get to the woods bear slightly right and the path takes you down through the woods towards the beach at Polkerris. When you get to the beach you have a choice of places to stop for another well-de-served break.

Head around to the back of the pub onto the coast path towards Par. This takes you up some steep steps and along the coast towards Par beach. When you get to the point where you have gone to the level of the dunes, look out for the steps on your left that take you down off the coast path. Go down these, over the bridge and car park, then bear right along the road.

Turn left on to main A-road (signed towards St Austell) that goes immediately under the clay-road bridge. There will be a sign for Tywardreath immediately on the right (but not the first road off to the right (Polpey Lane). Turn right (cross over the main road) and follow this road (Tywardreath Hill) up the hill and along for approx 1 mile. Once down the hill into the village you have reached your final destination!

*Hint - To find the log book & treasure, look out for the back facing sign & right holey tree...

The routeThe map below shows the route of the walk, which is also used for a yearly charity walk called The 8 in 8 Challenge. We have started the directions from The New Inn, Tywardreath, but you can start your walk from any point on the map. We have marked out some recommended resting spots and the rough location of the Bee Mindful Quest container which contains the treasure and log book - just keep your eyes peeled for the Bee Mindful markers when you approach the rugby club. The markers will indicate you are close to finding the quest! If you pass the club before finding the treasure, you have gone too far!

Cornwall Fire, Rescue and Community Safety Service personnel are welcome to use Fowey Community fire station car park but must park considerately and display a valid ID badge on your vehicle dash.

We hope you enjoy the walk and would like to get more involved with the Bee Mindful Quest.
