INFORMATION FOURTH WORLD CONGRESS OF RURAL SOCIOLOGY Torun, Poland, August 9- I 3, I 976 A CALL FOR PAPERS The Fourth World Congress of Rural Sociology will be held in Torun, POL-IND, August 9-15, 1976. The Congress is organized by the International Rural Sociological Association (IRSA), called into existence by the Rural Sociological Society (RSS), the European Society for Rural Sociology (ERSS), the Latin American Rural Sociology Association (ALASRU) and representing rural sociologists from all regions of the world. The participants of the Congress may be members of IRSA and regional societies, non-associated rural sociolo- gists, representatives of related disciplines, students of rural socio- logy and invited guests. The general theme of the Congress determined by the Program Committee is: INTEGRATED DEVELOPMENT OF HCWAN AND NATURAL RESOURCES: THE CONTRIBUTION OF RURAL SOCIOLOGY. The Program of the Congress has been prepared by the Committee coordinated by Glenn V. Fuguitt of the University of Wisconsin-hladison, USA, with representatives from all regions of the world, including Gelia Castillo (Philippines), Bruce Crouch (Australia), Odd Grande - until Sep- tember 1974 - (Norway), Gwyn Jones - after September 1974 - (United Kingdom), E. B. E. Ndem (Zambia), Jose Pastore (Brazil), A1 Bertrand - ex officio - (USA), and Boguslaw Galeski - ex officio - (Poland). In Poland, the organization of the Congress has been handled by the Local Arrangements Committee chaired by Boguslaw Galeski. The place of the Congress is Torun, a university city 90 miles northwest of Warsaw, and the birthplace of Copernicus. All sessions and meetings will be held on the campus. Translations will be provided only for the plenary sessions. It is planned to have five working languages: English, French, Spanish, German and Russian.

Two plenary sessions are planned: one opening session on the general theme of the Congress, and the dosing session, with the reports of the chairmen of the seminars. There was special concern that persons interested in particular topics would have the opportunity to meet and exchange their experiences and ideas. To achieve this o b j d v e , each participant will select two noncompeting seminars to attend for three sessions each, at which papers, research and policy issues will be discussed.

Thse wisbing to contribute papers should submit detailed abstracts as soon as possible to the appropriate chairman with a copy to the Local Arrangements Committee. (If no chairman is indicated, or if you are unsure as to which seminar would be appropriate for your work, send both copies of your abstract to the Local Arrangements Committee).

fee entitles the participant to a one-day scientific excursion, the materials of the Congress and to all Congress receptions. Congress participants will be housed on campus and in hotels. The rooms in dormitories will be approximately $9 per day, in hotels $18-30 per day. Meals at the University cafetaria will be about $10 per person per day.
