+ SCRIPTURES FOR THE DAY +

Old Testament Isaiah 52:7-10

How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of him who brings good news, who publishes peace, who brings good news of happiness, who publishes salvation, who says to Zion, “Your God reigns.”The voice of your watchmen—they lift up their voice; together they sing for joy;for eye to eye they see the return of the Lord to Zion.Break forth together into singing, you waste places of Jerusalem, for the Lord has comforted his people; he has redeemed Jerusalem. The Lord has bared his holy arm before the eyes of all the nations, and all the ends of the earth shall see the salvation of our God.

This is the Word of the LordThanks be to God.

PSALM 23 “Shepherd Me, O God”

Refrain is sung after introduction by cantor and after each verse.

1. God is my shepherd, so nothing shall I want,I rest in the meadows of faithfulness and love,I walk by the quiet waters of peace. refrain

2. Gently you raise me and heal my weary soul, you lead me by pathways of righteousness and truth,my spirit shall sing the music of your name. refrain

3. Though I should wander the valley of death,I fear no evil, for you are at my side, your rod and your staff,my comfort and my hope. refrain

4. You have set me a banquet of love in the face of hatred, crowning me with love beyond my pow’r to hold. refrain

5. Surely your kindness and mercy follow me all the days of my life;I will dwell in the house of my God forevermore. refrain

Epistle 2 Timothy 4:5-18

As for you, always be sober-minded, endure suffering, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry.

For I am already being poured out as a drink offering, and the time of my departurehas come. I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.Henceforth there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, therighteous judge, will award to me on that day, and not only to me but also to all whohave loved his appearing.

Do your best to come to me soon. For Demas, in love with this present world, hasdeserted me and gone to Thessalonica. Crescens has gone to Galatia, Titus to Dalmatia.Luke alone is with me. Get Mark and bring him with you, for he is very useful to mefor ministry. Tychicus I have sent to Ephesus. When you come, bring the cloak that Ileft with Carpus at Troas, also the books, and above all the parchments. Alexander thecoppersmith did me great harm; the Lord will repay him according to his deeds. Beware of him yourself, for he strongly opposed our message. At my first defense noone came to stand by me, but all deserted me. May it not be charged against them! Butthe Lord stood by me and strengthened me, so that through me the message might befully proclaimed and all the Gentiles might hear it. So I was rescued from the lion'smouth. The Lord will rescue me from every evil deed and bring me safely into hisheavenly kingdom. To him be the glory forever and ever. Amen.

This is the Word of the Lord. Thanks be to God.

GOSPEL VERSE

I am *the Good Shepherd. I know my own and my *own know me. John 10:14

The Holy Gospel according to St. John, the tenth chapter.Glory to You, O Lord

6

HOLY GOSPEL: John 10:11-18

I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep. Hewho is a hired hand and not a shepherd, who does not own the sheep, sees the wolfcoming and leaves the sheep and flees, and the wolf snatches them and scatters them. He flees because he is a hired hand and cares nothing for the sheep. I am the goodshepherd. I know my own and my own know me, just as the Father knows me and Iknow the Father; and I lay down my life for the sheep. And I have other sheep that arenot of this fold. I must bring them also, and they will listen to my voice. So there willbe one flock, one shepherd. For this reason the Father loves me, because I lay down mylife that I may take it up again. No one takes it from me, but I lay it down of my ownaccord. I have authority to lay it down, and I have authority to take it up again. Thischarge I have received from my Father."

This is the Gospel of the LordPraise to You O Christ.
