GOD MOMENTS
SCRIPTURE IS LIKEThere have been other “God Moments” around Ascension Press’ Bible in a Year podcast with Fr. Mike Schmitz. Today as I was listening, God gave me a real “Ah-ha” moment that I wanted to
share. It was that Scripture is like a flashlight, a mirror and sandpaper. It is like a flashlight as it shines the light of truth into the dark recesses and helps me to see God’s action in our world today, and to see those things that I would otherwise miss. It is like a mirror as it reflects my life back to me, both the good and the bad, so that I am better able to live a wholesome life as God intends. It is like sandpaper as it smooths the rough edges off, both of me and of my experiences. It was also noted that a healthy Christian Community embodies the same qualities by being the Light, the Mirror and Sandpaper. Thank you for being my Community and walking this journey of faith with me!
I believe almost any moment can be a God moment. For me, it includes two things, ATTENTION and INTENTION. Regardless of whether I am baking a cake, cutting the grass, doing my job, playing with children, whatever. What is my intention; is it to become closer to God and do
God’s will? Do I pay attention to what God is saying to me in the moment? What are your God moments? I believe I can find them all day, every day, if I am open to finding God and doing God’s will in the ordinary events of my everyday life.
FOURTH SUNDAY OF EASTER APRIL 25, 2021
CATHOLIC UPDATE for April features; LEARNING TO SEE through the EYES OF MERCY by Bernie
Ronan, Ph.D. “The day Jesus of Nazareth walked into the tax collector’s den and called Matthew was a compelling moment.” “Jesus saw the tax collector in a way that expressed both mercy and selection and said to him, ‘Follow me.’” There is a lot in this month’s update that speaks to our current life situation – viewing the world with Mercy and being an agent of Mercy is needed now more than ever! Grab a copy of this month’s Update for more information. If you would like copies of past Catholic Update, please contact Deacon Chuck Wright at the Parish Office.
SPIRITUALIf I could speak the truthI have not written all of my feelings in words but mostly in the flesh of my actionsYou can read the recesses of my heart by the reflections of how I have lived
What would my heart say if my God were to unlock the sentinels of my tongueWould I profess my feelings and be animated, as if a court jesterOr would I have a steady stream of nonsense, sounding like the cadence of an auctioneerWould my mind twist the feelings into words, reshaping their meanings to fit the timesOr would they be witness to what I truly believe deep inside my very bonesWould these words be fanned by a tempting flame to win my inmost desiresOr would these words be the signature of my soul and a reflection of its final homeHelp me, Lord, to understand how I should live my life by guarding my unspoken thoughtsAs You are revealed to me each day, as I feel my emotions are forever lost

Did You Know? That the blue Pinwheel is the national symbol of child abuse prevention efforts. It represents the innocence, joy and fun which should be the experience of all children. As a community of faith, it is important for us to do our part to assure that children, and all vulnerable members of society, are protected and can enjoy the dignity of life they are due. Consider making a blue pinwheel to display in your home and make a commitment today to
protect our children from harm!
One of the ways that the Church utilizes to help stop child abuse is through education and policy. Here in the Archdiocese of Cincinnati, we use the Awareness Program, Protecting God’s Children through Virtus. While this is required of all who minister to children in the name of the Church, it is open to anyone! If you want to register for an awareness session, go to www.virtus.org to locate and register for a session. If you have already attended a session, staying current on your monthly awareness bulletins is critical to keep our awareness levels up. We also have a valuable tool in our Decree on Child Protection. If you have not read this document and
would like to, it is available on the Archdiocese website at www.catholicaoc.org. Go to “Ministries – Safe Environment” and a link is located there. BOTTOM LINE IS, IF YOU SEE SOMETHING – SAY SOMETHING. We can all make a difference.
Is Your Marriage Hurting? Has your marriage grown cold, distant, unloving, or uncaring? Please consider Retrouvaille (ret’ ro-vi) – a Catholic-sponsored, confidential program open to all faiths, designed to help heal and renew marriages. The next program begins May 28-30, 2021. For more information, call 800-470-2230, or visit us online at either Retrouvaille.org or helpourmarriage.org. Other weekends and locations are available. Call for details.
