LOURDES BOOK CLUB Join us for a book discussion on Saturday, February 4, 2017 at Panera, Emory Village at 7 p.m. for dinner with the discussion to begin at 7:45 p.m. Our book selection is : The Sympathizer: A Novel (Pulitzer Prize for Fiction) by Viet Thanh Nguyen. The Sympathizer is a sweeping epic of love and betrayal. The narrator, a communist double agent, is a “man of two minds,” a half-French, half-Vietnamese army captain who arranges to come to America after the Fall of Saigon, and while building a new life with other Vietnamese refugees in Los Angeles is secretly report-ing back to his communist superiors in Vietnam. The Sympathizer is a blistering exploration of identity and America, a gripping espionage novel, and a powerful story of love and friendship. For more information, please contact Carole Lacour at [email protected] or 770-951-3417.
MLK CELEBRATION MOVIE NIGHT: All are invited to a movie and discussion on Saturday, January 14, 2017; 6:30PM in the Parish Hall. We will be viewing “13TH” the journey from shackles to prison bars. Join the discussion and discover ways to get involved. “Powerful, infuriating and at times overwhelming, Ava DuVernay’s documentary “13TH” will get your blood boiling and tear ducts leaking. It shakes you up, but it also challenges your ideas about the intersection of race, justice and mass incarceration in the United States…” – The New York Times. Pizza and refreshments will be pro-vided.
2016 ARCHBISHOP’S ANNUAL APPEAL It is very important that you fulfil your pledges so we can meet or exceed our goal. Any overages come back to Lourdes.
DECEMBER IS SAFE TOYS AND GIFTS MONTH: Prevent Blindness America, the nation’s oldest eye health and safety organization, has declared December as Safe Toys and Gifts Awareness Month. The group encourages everyone to make conscientious purchasing decisions based on what is best for each individual child. Make recommendations to family members and friends about gifts that you feel are appropriate for your child. Be diligent about inspecting these gifts before allowing your child to play with them. For more information on safe toys and gifts for children as well as general children’s eye health topics, please contact Prevent Blindness America by calling (800) 331-2020 or visit http://www.preventblindness.org/ .

Thoughts on Stewardship
When he discovered that Mary was with child, Joseph resolved to end their engagement with as little disgrace as possible. But obedient to the voice of God, he changed those plans and became instead the protector of the child Jesus and his mother, Mary. God grant that I may be as open to the leading of the Holy Spirit!
