The four new tracks being built between Malmö and Lund will be placed along the same stretch as the current tracks, and partly below ground. For this reason, traffic will be moved to two temporary tracks during construction. When the tem- porary tracks are connected, traffic must be stopped in order to allow us to work as safely and as quickly as possible. Plan for the stop The closure will affect many - the public, business and the public sector - both directly and indirectly. We therefore encourage all concerned to plan ahead for the interruption of train services and prepare for a challenging week. Several disturbances in train and road services 2020–2022 Building tracks and still keeping the railway open to traffic is a challenge for Trafikverket. We will manage it, but with a few exceptions. In 2018, we closed the E6 outside of Malmö at the Alnarp junction. In the next two years, we will need to close the railway between Malmö and Lund on three se- parate occasions, and we will at one point need to close the E6 outside of Malmö for three weeks. These closures are necessary to safely carry out complex construction works. More trains, fewer disruptions and improved environment The Southern Main Line between Malmö and Lund is southern Sweden’s most heavily trafficked stretch, used at maximum capacity. Every day, nearly 60,000 people travel on this stretch, and thousands of tonnes of cargo pass it heading north in Sweden, or south towards the continent.
