LOWVELD NOMADS (FOUNDED 1996)
APRIL 2015
THE NOMADS CREED
“No man is an island entire of itself; every man is a piece of the continent, a part of the main ;
Any man’s death diminishes me, because I am involved in mankind;
And therefore, never send to know for whom the bell tolls;
It tolls for thee”
from the Meditations of John Donne (1573-1631)
Dear Fellow Lowveld Nomads,
What a humbling experience it was at our Gold Cup Game when outgoing Captain Brian Hogg inducted me as your incoming Captain. Certainly large shoes to fill, and for those who unfortunately missed the day, my sincere thanks to Brian for the manner in which he led our club during his tenure. It was a pleasure to work with you as
Vice Captain - and although still serving on the committee of our great club, enjoy your less stressful portfolio.
I look forward to my term as Captain and ask that we continue with the ‘lekker” spirit and camaraderie that exists in our great club. To the committee members who have decided to vacate their portfolios and make way for some new and younger blood, thank you! Enjoy your rest. To the newbie’s good luck and we look forward to working together, and to the rest of the committee who have availed themselves for another term, my heartfelt
thanks to you as well.
Congratulations to Rob Mclagan as our new Vice Captain and Brian Springorum as our new J.V.C. I trust the members will support you both as well as they did me. To our lovely Ladies as always a pleasure to have you
around.
This is a quote I found and am happy to share it with you, “For when the one Great Scorer comes to write
against your name, He marks – not that you won or lost - But How You Played The Game.
To Alec Blair who is getting married on the same weekend - Congratulations and we look forward to your return
as a newly married man!
See you all at the Skukuza Game.
Regards
NEVILLE BLUM

OUR NATIONAL SPONSORS
THANK YOU FOR YOUR GENEROUS SUPPORT
It’s official .... Brian is out and Neville is in. White River saw the culmination of our Nomads year and congratulations to all the prize winners, which I am pleased to say included myself as winner of the Plate Final in the Gary Player Knock-out. I must say however if it was not for my partner Gary Botha we would easily have been the runners-up. Gary is so relaxed on a golf course he makes spaghetti look tense which makes it easier!! Luigi Colmanet had a wonderful year and deservedly walked away with the bulk of the prizes and in my opinion it was well deserved. Congratulations, Luigi. Nationals is also a thing of the past and by all accounts “Oogies” will be keeping an eye out for next year’s dates. What goes on tour stays on tour so not many stories have emerged from Nationals but from some the stories filtering through it seems that Beef was never far from the Bar. The inclement weather did not help as it gave him more excuses to “kuier”. I think instead of a whisky prize for him maybe a stint in rehab would be a better prize (if he ever wins anything). Just kidding Beef! I’m sure you will win something even if it involves the Bunny Ears. Difflock was also in show-room condition and was always on hand in case of a dispute and your fellow Nomads thank you for that Rowan. Once again the main prize eluded us but by all accounts the guys were very lucky with draw prizes and raffles so it was not all in vain. Well done to you all who once again held Lowveld’s name high. I have said it before but I would just like to congratulate Brian Hogg on a wonderful year as captain. I know that Neville is just as capable and driven to make his year as captain a success so I’m sure we can look forward to another wonderful year ahead. Alex and Jim are having a quick nine holes after work but they get caught up behind two lady golfers who are playing really slowly. Jim says to Alex “Don’t worry, I’ll go and ask them if they can speed up a bit”. He gets close to them but then turns around suddenly and hurries back to Alex. Alex looks at him and says “What’s wrong Buddy?” Jim says “I can’t talk to them, one is my wife and the other is my mistress! Can you go and speak to them.” Alex says “No problem, I’ll chase them up a bit”. Alex goes over to the ladies but also stops short and comes back to Jim. Jim asks him “What’s the problem now?” Alex shakes his head and says “It’s a small world isn’t it?” Keep swinging, see you at Skukuza THE CHANGEROOM CHATTERBOX

able to stay over. Please support this Swaziland Challenge—we need at least 12 members.
29—30 August LES TROPHY —venue still to be confirmed and more information at a later date. We need
a team of 20 Lowveld Nomads— please diarise this date and book soon.

It’s going to be a busy year—please check your diaries,
tick the dates and let me know if you are keen to participate in any of these
