HOLY FATHER’S PRAYER INTENTION
Please join Pope Francis in praying for the following intention during the month of December:
Universal – The Very Young
That every country resolutely commits to taking the nec-essary measures to make the future of the very young, especially those who suffer, a priority.
RORATE MASSES
The Rorate Caeli Mass is a traditional Advent devo-tion wherein the Mass of the Blessed Virgin Mary for Advent is offered just before dawn. The Mass takes its title, Rorate Caeli, from the first words of the Introit, which are from Isaiah 45:8:
“Rorate, caeli, … Drop dew, ye heavens, from above, and let the clouds rain the just: let the earth be opened and bud forth a Saviour.”
The Rorate Mass is lit only by candlelight. Because it is a votive Mass in Mary’s honor, white vestments are worn instead of Advent violet. In the dimly lit setting, priests and faithful prepare to honor the Light of the world, Who is soon to be born, and of-fer praise to God for the gift of Our Lady. As the Mass proceeds and sunrise approaches, the church becomes progressively brighter, illumined by the sun as our Faith is illumined by Christ. The readings and prayers of the Mass foretell the prophecy of the Virgin who would bear a Son called Emmanuel.
***The “Rorate Mass” (Traditional Latin Mass) will be celebrated at The Shrine and Parish Church of the Holy Innocents on the following days of Advent at 6:00 a.m.:
Monday, December 2 Tuesday, December 3 Wednesday, December 4 Thursday, December 5 Friday, December 6 Saturday, December 7 Monday, December 9 Tuesday, December 10 Wednesday, December 11 Friday, December 13 Saturday, December 14 Monday, December 16
ALL I WANT FOR CHR ISTMAS
Beginning on St. Andrew the Apostle’s feast day, No-vember 30, the following beautiful prayer is tradition-ally recited fifteen times a day until Christmas. This is a very meditative prayer that helps us increase our awareness of the real focus of Christmas and helps us prepare ourselves spiritually for His coming.
Hail and blessed be the hour and moment in which the Son of God was born of the most pure Virgin Mary, at midnight, in Bethlehem, in the piercing cold. In that hour vouchsafe, I beseech Thee, O my God, to hear my prayer and grant my desires, [here mention your request] through the merits of Our Saviour Jesus Christ, and of His Blessed Mother. Amen.
Beautiful cards with this prayer are available in the Parish Office

PRAYER FOR LIGHTING THE ADVENT WREATH
FIRST WEEK
All-powerful God, increase our strength of will for doing good that Christ may find an eager welcome at his coming and call us to his side in the kingdom of heaven, where he lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit one God, forever and ever.
PUBLIC ROSARY RALLY FOR CHRISTMAS
The war on Christmas has grown more intense lately. Some simply leave Christ out of Christmas. Others don’t care about it, and still others attack Him in ugly and blasphe-mous ways and even rent billboards with such blasphemous messages as: “Keep the mer-ry dump the myth!”; “Make Christmas great again – skip Church!” and God is de-scribed as “sadistic” and Jesus as, “a useless savior.” Let’s respond with our own mes-sage of love for the Holy Family!
To counter the attacks from atheists against the Infant Jesus, Holy Innocents will hold a Christmas centered Public Rosary Rally on Saturday, December 14 to hon-or the Infant Jesus. The Rally will begin at 12 noon in front of Macy’s Depart-ment Store on Broadway between 34th and 35th Streets in Herald Square. It will conclude in time for the 1:00 p.m. Latin Mass. Restoring Christmas to America will help lead our nation back to God. And what better place to gather for this demon-stration? We hope you will join us.
QUOTES OF MOTHER MARY ANGELINE TERESA, O. CARM. On Prayer…
“Try to remember that Vocal Prayer well said is very pleasing to God, and is meritorious only when said with attention and devotion. Otherwise, we are only giving God the service of our lips, and not of our hearts.”
--December, 1960
On Sacrifice…
“Let us cheerfully, generously and wholeheartedly take up the cross given to us and, with it, let us pur-chase Heaven and an eternity of bliss. Is any price too high to pay for the eternal possession of Him for whom we have given up so much? Turn then, to our Mother Mary, and beseech her on this great Feast (of the Immaculate Conception) to imbue us with her courage that we may become true followers of Her Son. She will never fail you, if you have confidence in her.”
--December 8, 1944
On Our Lady…
“Pure souls always feel themselves drawn powerfully to Mary. May your devotion to her always become more tender and more fervent. With love for Mary, with her powerful help you shall repulse all temptation and come forth victorious from every battle.”
--December, 1955
On the Holy Eucharist…
“Do all things well, especially hear Mass with devotion and attention. Be penetrated with the thought of the holiness of the sacrifice that is offered to God. Consider how important is the action when you ap-proach the Altar, take your place at the Communion rail with love, enter into the realization of your noth-ingness when you have had the happiness of being fed with the Bread of Life.”
--August 22, 1957
On Faithfulness…
“Faithfully faithful always!...Faithful not only when all is going well, and we are just where we want to be, doing the work we want to do; but faithful to Him in adversity and hardship; faithful when the Cross is almost unbearable; faithful when being faithful costs something. This is the fidelity that makes saints out of ordinary beings! This is the fidelity of Mary when she stood at the foot of the Cross and watched her Son die!”
--December, 1956
PRAYER TO PREPARE FOR THE COMING OF OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST
Creator and creating God, you give me such a delightful and wholesome gift in a new beginning. Pride, rebellion, and temp-tation called to me, and I pulled away from you. These identical issues continue to cause sin in the lives of your people. Rather than true confession, like the first Adam, I seek to blame others for the troubles in my life. Forgive me of my sins. Allow me to begin this Advent sojourn by restoring me to a fresh start and new beginning with and in you. Amen.
ADVENT ACTION: Whatever is at the center of your life will be the source of your security, peace, wisdom, and pow-er. Decide today to make Jesus the center and source of everything in your life.
Advent & Christmas Wisdom by St. Alphonsus Ligouri

HOLY INNOCENTS BOOKSHELF
A Beginner’s Guide to the TRADITIONAL Latin Mass By Derya Little
As the celebration of the classical Roman rite of Mass becomes increasingly com-mon, this Beginner’s Guide to the Tradi-tional Latin Mass fills a real need. This form of Mass is more elaborate and prayed in an ancient language, so those coming to it for the first time can find it
bewildering and hard to navigate. Existing resources often present too much, too fast. Derya Little has provided a simple step-by-step presentation of the Mass with just enough information about the se-quence, content, and meaning of its parts—at both Low Mass and High Mass—that anyone, adult or child, can follow and pray more easily. The Beginner’s Guide opens wide the doors of dis-covery to this inexhaustible treasure of the Church, paving the way for a fruitful lifelong engagement.
Available in the Gift Shop in the Parish Office
HOLY INNOCENTS CHRISTMAS CARDS
Our own Holy Innocents Christmas Cards are now available for purchase in the Gift Shop in the Parish Office. Scenes depict the Nativity Stained-glass window and the Adoration of the Magi window. Cards may be purchased for $18.50 for a box of 20 or $1.00 per card.
KEEP CHRIST IN CHRISTMAS!
PRAY FOR YOUR PRIESTS
WHAT IS A PRIEST?
A worthy priest is an angel of purity, in mind and body, a cherub of light and knowledge, a seraph of love and Chari-ty, an apostle of zeal in work and sanc-tity, a little god on earth in power and authority, in patience and benignity.
He is the living image of Christ in this world, of Christ watching, praying, preaching, catechizing, working, weeping, going from town to town, from village to village, suffering, agonizing, sacrificing Himself and dying for the souls created to His image and likeness…
He is the light of those who sit in darkness and in the shadow of death. He is the destroyer of error, schisms and heresies, The converter of sinners, the sanctifier of the just, The strength of the war, the consolation of the af-flicted, the treasure of the poor. He is the confusion of hell, the glory of heaven, the terror of demons, the joy of angels, the ruin of Sa-tan’s kingdom, the establishment of Christ’s em-pire, the ornament of the Church…
- St. John Eudes
The Shrine to the Unborn Blessed by Cardinal O’Connor on December 28, 1993
The Shrine is dedicated in Memory of the Children Who Have Died Unborn
We invite you to name your child(ren) and provide the opportunity to have
your babyʹs name inscribed in our “Book of Lifeʺ.
LEGION OF MARY – REGINA MUNDI
The Holy Innocents Legion of Mary group meets each Monday in the Parish Hall follow-ing the 6 p. m. Mass. For more information on joining this ministry as an active or auxiliary member please contact James Hackett at: [email protected].
Often children who have died before birth have no grave or headstone, and sometimes not even a name. At The Church of The Holy Innocents, we invite you to name your child(ren) and to have the opportunity to have your baby's name inscribed in our "BOOK OF LIFE". Here, a candle is always lit in their memory. All day long people stop to pray. On the first Monday of every month, our 12:15pm Mass is celebrated in honor of these children and for the comfort of their families. We pray that you will find peace in knowing that your child(ren) will be remembered at the Shrine and honored by all who pray here.
We will inscribe the names of babies who have died before and at birth in our Book of Life, and as always, we invite
you to visit the Shrine if you are in New York City.
SUBWAY ROSARY
Our Regina Mundi Praesidium of the Legion of Mary conducts a Subway Rosary on the second and fourth Saturdays of the month. All are invited to join in this evangelization effort to spread devotion to Our Lady. Anyone interested in joining is asked to gather at Holy Innocents by 10:00am. The group will then proceed to 42nd and Broadway Time Square subway station. We
will be located by the Time Square Shuttle downstairs. We recite 20 decades of the Holy Rosary and return back to Holy Innocents around 12:15. Come for all or
part of the Subway Rosary.
