Connections might best describe Metro Ministries' 2010. We connected more with our new environment forming relationships and developing collaborations beyond district lines throughout Central Indiana. We connected with our stakeholders through Walker Research and found the areas on w h i c h y o u w a n t u s t o
concentrate. We connected with strategic thinking and have published our aims, goals, objectives, responsibilities, and metrics online so you can see how we're doing. Our ubiquitous Executive Director Lisa Morris connected with Mary E. Ober Foundation’s MEO Tech Series with JD Levy Associates through East Tenth UMC Children & Youth Board and is unpacking a wealth of board development insights. I had the opportunity to connect with the West Ohio Conference Metropolitan Ministries to help it set strategic agendas for Cincinnati, Columbus, Dayton, and Toledo. Metro Ministries supported the creation of the Barnes UMC two new satellites Barnes Worship Empowerment Center East and Barnes West to continue that parish's great work in making disciples and reducing neighborhood crime--for which it has been recognized by the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department. Metro Ministries also connected with 13 local church and community ministry summer youth programs serving more than 1,001 youth who had nourishing summer lunches, academics, team building and fitness
activities. 2011 promises to be another year of connecting resources to ministries and ministries to resources to make disciples for Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.

Barnes Empowerment Worship Center launched October 10, 2010 with 140 persons in attendance. Children’s worship, bible studies, and community ministries are flourishing on East New York Street. Metro Ministries resourced financially and provided volunteer events to support the launch of Barnes United Methodist Church’s new satellite Barnes Empowerment Worship Center, 4110 E. New York Street, Indianapolis.

The Metro Ministries Board of Directors and Strategic Agenda team studied Metro Ministries’ strengths, weaknesses and opportunities. Both teams received reports from the Indiana Conference Directors and staff on:
▪Church Development ▪Generational Studies ▪Demographic Studies
Metro Ministries Board of Directors Retreat in February was led by Rev. David V. W. Owen working to build on the strengths of Metro Ministries past and to move forward into the future. The Independent Study by Walker Information, leadership Mr. Robert Kizer and Ms. Kitty Radcliff, was conducted spring 2010 to:
Evaluate awareness of current capabilities Assess performance Understand the perceived value of various MM services Discover ways MM could be more effective in supporting local church leadership
The bigger question was “How can Metro Ministries better support local church leadership via its mission and service offerings?
The reasons that Metro Ministries matters are:
Helps identify outreach opportunities Facilitates and assists in supporting those in need Provides connection to resources to help others Provides valuable resource for missions/ministries; obtains information about opportunities Facilitates financial support
The Challenge How can Metro Ministries better support local church leadership via its mission and service offerings?
Narrow Focus of

“[Metro Ministries] Provides a direct way to support community ministries in neighborhoods and communities of great need. This connection is critical.”
Each Tuesday and Wednesday at Brightwood Community Center, 2410 N. Station Street, you find teams preparing a meal for the Bright Kids’ Literacy Center. Pictured are members of Bethel United Methodist Church finishing up their work for the evening.

I extend my appreciation to the dedicated Metro Ministries Board of Directors, Central District Superintendent and his leadership staff. Without the support of the team, the work of Metro Ministries would not be moving forward. Metro Board has allowed me to work diligently without restrictions whereby I was able to be nimble and make changes during this past year. I have visited more than 100 local churches in Central Indiana — attending worship services, cluster meetings, charge conferences and individually with pastors and members. There have been times when I spoke about Metro Ministries, and how we are resourcing mission and ministries and times when I listened, not only to their needs, but learned how the United Methodist Church is making a difference in their communities. Within Central Indiana many volunteers have made a huge difference. There are volunteers from local churches, clusters and community ministries making an impact in each community and neighborhood. I see all of the denominational churches connecting together changing the communities in which they live and building on resources together. Metro Ministries is connecting resources to ministries and ministries to resources within Central Indiana. We are a vital part of the United Methodist Church located in Central District working with individuals, churches, clusters, districts and the Indiana Conference changing lives with the mission of “making Disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world” in Central Indiana.
