demand for leadership development programming and lower educational endowment draws, the Foundation Board has concluded that we must raise $925,000 for the Beta Leadership Fund this year (an increase of 7.15%).

We cant go it alone is the theme for this years BLF drive as it will take the support of Beta alumni, undergraduates, parents and Friends of Beta everywhere if we are to meet the educational demands of our Great and Good Fraternity. I am confident you will enthusiastically answer the call when you receive our personal, electronic and direct mail outreach efforts this year.

We cant go it alone brothers and friends, and I thank you in advance for your support!

Finally, I would like to recognize our two Foundation Board members who have finished their service this year: Cal Black, Wabash 66, has completed his term on the Board and the late Garland (Gar) Fritts, Illinois 52, who passed away in January of this year. Both have been instrumental in providing the resources and leadership necessary to move the educational Foundation forward, and we are grateful for their service.

Thanks again to all brothers, parents and Friends of Beta who continue to support the principled development of Betas across North America. You are building the future of Beta Theta Pi, one young man at a time.

Dear Brothers, Parents and Friends of Beta: As chairman of the Beta Foundation, it gives me great pleasure to share with you our 2010 Annual Report. Thinking back on the activity and progress of the Foundation this past year, one powerful word continues to come to mind CoNNECTIVITY!

Technology in this day and age makes it easy to communicate and connect with one another, but connectivity in Beta Theta Pi has a much deeper sentiment one that brings together people and principles. Although this Annual Report shows organizational data and Foundation achievements, it also appropriately highlights the people who are responsible for helping some 7,000 undergraduates build a connection and commitment to the time-tested values of friendship, leadership, service and integrity. Without our loyal Foundation donors, the Beta Foundation could not provide award-winning programs and services that benefit our young undergraduate leaders. Let there be no doubt together we are developing men of principle for a principled life. THANK YoU!

Its also important that we recognize and thank the 3,753 donors who rallied to help the Beta Foundation surpass our $850,000 Beta Leadership Fund goal by contributing $863,268 in FY10. Whether it was the 1,033 undergraduates who joined the Sons of the Dragon Club, the 249 Friends of Beta and Beta Parents who met their matching gift challenges, or the 2,471 alumni who contributed to our cause, the 2010 BLF drive was exciting, humbling, and an all-around team effort. The Foundations success this year and the connectivity among those involved is best expressed by the words of Henry Ford:Coming together is a beginning. Keeping together is progress. Working together is success.

With our FY11 Beta Leadership Fund drive underway, we must refrain from resting on our laurels and once again tap into the connectivity that all Betas and Friends of Beta share with each other and with Betas purpose. Given the continued high

Answering the Call of Principled Leadership

Kyle Shaner, Eastern Kentucky 11At The Presidents Academy I learned that I have the opportunity to prove to my campus that fraternities are relevant, and that being Chapter President is more than just a position or a rsum builder. CommentLike

Fanning the Flame of Principled Leadership

    Embracing Betas Interfraternal Responsibility

Named Endowment FundsThe Beta Theta Pi Foundation has been blessed over the years as a result of so many Betas, Sweethearts and Friends of Beta giving gifts for the creation and perpetuation of named endowment funds. These generous gifts were contributed for a variety of purposes, and they all work together to provide for todays and tomorrows generation of young Beta leaders.

With a long-term investment perspective one overseen by the Beta Theta Pi Foundation Board of Directors and a cadre of capable investment advisors these funds continue to grow in value and impact.

By official policy, all named endowment funds are subject to the boards 4% of the 12-quarter average annual distribution guideline. Calculated each December 31st for the coming years fiscal budget, this policy allows for generous distributions from each fund annually, while at the same time emphasizing compounding growth for the benefit of future endeavors of Beta students, leaders and organizational priorities.

Beta Foundation Merit ScholarshipsThe Beta Theta Pi Foundations Merit Scholarship Program, instituted in 1949 by the Beta Theta Pi Board of Trustees, has enabled many outstanding students to achieve their academic endeavors by providing important financial assistance.

Beta Theta Pi offered 68 scholarships totaling $82,675 to undergraduate and graduate student members of the Fraternity as well as sons and daughters of Betas who excelled in the areas of academics, chapter leadership and campus/community involvement. Their achievements and leadership range from officer roles within the chapter, student government and interfraternity councils, to honorary societies such as Order of Omega, Phi Eta Sigma and Golden Key. This years scholarship recipients are active in varsity athletics, university-wide organizations and philanthropy. They are often Eagle Scouts, community volunteers, youth coaches and tutors.

For more information about next years opportunities, visit www.betathetapi.org. Scholarship forms and details will be available on the website in early February. The deadline for submission is April 1.

All scholarships will be awarded prior to the 172nd General Convention in Seattle, Washington.

The Beta Leadership Fund made my experience at The Wooden Institute possible! It allowed Betas who are passionate about the Fraternity and leadership to come together, learn and share in an unforgettable experience without the burden of finances weighing them down. As a member of the Sons of the Dragon Club, I want all Beta undergraduates and alumni, to support the BLF and make similar experiences possible for future Betas. Patrick Hinds, Loyola Marymount 12

I give to the BLF because I know the leadership programs are outstanding. Beta teaches real-world lessons in a context that is exciting for young people. Dr. Robert Tigner, Friend of Beta

Your gift to the Beta Theta Pi Foundation is deductible to the fullest extent allowed by law. The Foundation is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization.

I give annually to the Beta Leadership Fund because the world will always need positive role models who have the courage to make a difference. If you believe as I do that the next generation will require leaders of the utmost character and ability, then you must do something about it. Supporting the BLF makes me feel optimistic and confident about those to whom we hand the future. Steve Brylski, Virginia Tech 06

I support the Beta Leadership Fund because without it, I would never have been able to realize the importance of values-oriented leadership. Alex Gardner, Puget Sound 11

Beta Bridge Building 101: We are always in debt to those who have nurtured, guided and taught us over the years, and one of our greatest responsibilities is to return the favor by doing the same for others. I continue to be extremely blessed and grateful for my Beta experiences and the least I can do is lend a hand to a fellow brother. I have participated in many of the Foundations programs and know their value firsthand. I have also had FOBs from other fraternal organizations tell me that our leadership programs are second to none. For all these reasons, I willingly support the Beta Leadership Fund each year!
