JEWISH FOUNDATION OF NASHVILLE| 801 Percy Warner Boulevard Suite 102 | Nashville, TN 37205 | 615-356-3242

August 31, 2007

Dear Friends, We are pleased to present the fiscal year 2006--2007 Annual Report of the Jewish Foundation of Nashville, the endowment arm of the Jewish Federation. 2007 was a year of continued growth for the Jewish Foundation of Nashville. Total contributions to Foundation funds were up almost 89% over last year, and new fund creation was up 6%. We are proud to report that the Jewish Foundation’s total assets reached almost $29.9 million as of August 31, 2007.

These dollars represent our community’s insurance policy for the future and our working capital for the here and now. In addition, B’nai Tzedek fund creation was up over 7.5%, giving more youth an opportunity to practice tzedakah as part of a larger giving community.

Our Book of Life runs continuously on a plasma screen in the lobby of the Gordon Jewish Community Center and is housed in a one of a kind sculpture inspired by our Foundation logo. It is a pathway to the future, celebrating those community members who have committed themselves to the future of our Jewish people by making a permanent endowed gift to benefit local, national or international Jewish agencies, organizations or congregations.

With your support, the Jewish Foundation will continue to help insure a permanent, vibrant and secure Jewish Community here in Nashville, nationally, in Israel and around the world. We are grateful to those who partner with us and extend an invitation to those who have yet to do so. We are honored to be our community’s trusted resource for philanthropy for generations in the future. The Jewish Foundation has relevance at all stages of life, from seed to sprout to branch to tree.

In celebration of its 25th anniversary in 2005, the Jewish Foundation of Nashville launched the Book of Life, a donor recognition program honoring community members who have committed themselves to the future of our Jewish people. The Book of Life, a beautiful sculpture in the lobby of the Gordon Jewish Community Center, allows donors to provide a digital narrative reflecting their thoughts and feelings that motivated them to provide for an endowed gift. The cornerstone of the Book of Life is the creation of a permanent gift for the Jewish com-munity and for Nashville, Israel or elsewhere. The Book of Life is constantly evolving. It grows as our community members share their legacy plans with the Jewish Foundation.

Our philosophy of life is that our family for over sixty years has offered services, guidance and philanthropic aid to most Jewish causes and to many general community causes. We have gotten far more than we have given, and Nashville’sfuture is bright. It is our hope that our family will continue to build on today’s foundation that we hope we have helped create. -- Gilbert and Lois Fox

For seventeen years, the Jewish Foundation of Nashville has provided seed money to Jewish organizations and institutions for programs that enhance and maintain the quality of Jewish life. The Advisory Committee on Distributions undertakesthis important task, and this year’s Chair, Mary Jones, was joined by Committee members Ann Bernard, Sylvia R. Feldman (Chair of the Jewish Foundation), Lori Fishel, Frank May, Jimmy Schulman, Elise Steiner, Karen Weil and Bruce Zeitlin in hearing grants presentations.

The Jewish Foundation of Nashville provided seed money for 14 programs which included 6 block grant requests where two or more organizations collaborate to undertake a program or project. In addition to funding grants of $105,149, an additional $26,287 was reserved for allocation to our community’songoing needs. These monies were allocated through a joint Federation/Foundation allocations committee. The Jewish Foundation is proud to be able to grant a total of $131,436 for new programming and ongoing community needs.

Since its inception in 2000, 189 young people from across the community have created funds and taken the first step in becoming part of this new generation of philanthropists.
