Greetings,
These are exciting times for the Festival of the Sound. Last year, the acoustically acclaimed Charles W. Stockey Centre for the Performing Arts opened, fulfillinga generation-long goal of the Festival and its supporters. This year, we are celebrating the Silver Anniversary of the “marriage” between the music created by the world’s greatest composers and the splendour of Georgian Bay. We are
excited, we are healthy, and we are looking forward to a tremendous summer and to continuing the love affair with music into another generation.
When the Festival Winds played the first notes in the Charles W. Stockey Festival Performance Hall in June 2003, we knew that we had a gem on our hands. Although we always expected that the acoustics would be good and we hoped that they would be excellent, what we heard went far beyond our hopes and dreams. So here we are, even more excited about this, our 25th season, than we were last year.
Please join us.

These early goals have inspired all the Board members, volunteers and staff who have given so generously of themselves over the years. The first goal was gradually realized as the Festival of the Sound grew over 23 years, even with a high school gymnasium as its main performance venue. So much wonderful music was shared in that old“Festival Hall.” The second goal was achieved in 2003 when the Festival of the Sound presented its first season in the Charles W. Stockey Centre for the Performing Arts, the spectacular new concerthall on the Parry Sound waterfront.
The 25th Anniversary Season provides an opportunity to look back but also challenges the Festival of the Sound to look to the future and to find ways to ensure the long-term success of the
organization. In saying his farewells to the Festival audience in 2003,Charles Stockey, the generous donor who made the new hall possible, said “Could we hope when you are back home again. . . making out your Christmas list of family and friends, perhaps you will include the Festival on that list. Your help will allow us to plan ahead and providethe kind of programming you deserve. Yes, we do need your help.”
The Board of Directors, in response to this suggestion, has founded the Charles and Lois Stockey Endowment Fund as its 25th Anniversary project. All contributions designated for this fund will be invested, with the proceeds used to support annual programming. Charles responded to the news of this decision in a letter to Festival president Patricia Mueller, “My reward – it is so very gratifying to learn others like yourself and fellow Board Members also have deep sincere interests and have not forgotten where this dream all began those many years ago.”
Further information about the Charles and Lois Stockey Endowment Fund will be available at all Festival of the Sound concertsthis summer. Or call the Festival Office at 705-746-2410 or toll-free at 866-364-0061 to discuss how you can become involved. All donations are eligible for a charitable receipt. $25 from each ticket to the Gala Opening will help to launch the fund.
Your help will allow us to plan ahead and providethe kind of programmingyou deserve.

The Festival of the Sound has grown from a 3-concert series in
1979 to a 31/2 week season with over 60 concerts, cruises and special
musical events. The first Board of Directors bravely adopted a set
of goals that included “to maintain a Festival of international stature”
and “to build a permanent home for the Festival which would
combine great music with the beauty of scenic Georgian Bay.”

2003 LIEUTENANTGOVERNOR’S AWARDFOR THE ARTS
The Festival of the Sound was honoured again to be one of the recipients of this prestigious award. In 1995, during his term as Lieutenant Governor of Ontario, the Honourable Henry N.R. Jackman established the pro-gram to recognize Ontario arts organizations that have maintained a high level of artistic excellence while demonstrating exceptional community and private sec-tor support. In presenting the awards, The Honourable James K. Bartleman said, “Although their artistic disci-plines are very different, the recipients all exemplify the vision and dedication that inspire exceptional sup-port. I congratulate them ontheir creativity, ingenuity andhard work! These winnerscontribute to the enormouswealth of artistic experiencethat enriches the thrivingcultural scene in Ontario.”
In a very real sense, this award belongs to all the musicians, volunteers, audi-ence members and donors who have helped to build and sustain the Festival of the Sound.

PLAY A SUPPORTINGROLE IN OURFESTIVAL SEASON
Your donation to the Festival of the Sound means continued artistic excellence coupled with financial stability. Ticket revenue provides only about one-third of the cost of pre-senting our concert series each summer. Individual dona-tions are necessary to help to keep the Festival growing to meet the challenges and opportunities that the CharlesW. Stockey Centre for thePerforming Arts now brings.
All contributions are gratefullyreceived and are eligible for a tax credit receipt. A donationof $25 or more means that you will become a member of the Festival of the Sound, entitled to receive a pre-Christmas mailing with special offers, our newsletter Soundings outlining advance information about the upcom-ing season, early mailing of the season brochure and listing in the souvenir pro-gramme. Rather than desig-nating one night as Patron’s Night, the Festival Board offers contributors of $250 or more tickets to their concert of choice (excluding Opening Night, cruises and special events).
Your investment in the future of the Festival of the Sound is very much appreciated.
