It is that time again for our newsletter and hopefully you have all weathered the Covid 19 restrictions. It has been a difficult time for all family and friends. As we in Queensland are starting to come out the other side of the restrictions we hope that our friends and families down south are kept safe with the new restrictions. I believe we still have difficult times ahead and I still think we are a long way from returning to the norm. We have included some helpful contact details in the Newsletter; they may prove helpful. If you are in need of a chat or want further information, please call me on the number below and I will try and marry you up with the best person and organization.

Our calendar has certainly taken a hit as you can see below and most of our activities have been cancelled or rescheduled and those that remain are still TBA. I have outlined below what our plans are in regard to our calendar of events for the remainder of the year but be advised things can change at very short notice.

Committee Meetings

Our meeting on the 29 July 2020 has been moved to the 12 August 2020 due to some members not being available. This meeting will be a mix of face to face and electronic conferencing.

Our meeting on the 14 October 2020 will be changed to an AGM on Saturday 17 Oct 2020. This is still dependent on the availability of the Kedron Wavell RSL to host us. More information will be sent out by the Secretary at a later time.

AGM

As you are all aware we had to cancel our AGM in May due to Covid restrictions. The plan is to hold the AGM on Saturday the 17 October 2020.

Under normal circumstances an association must hold an AGM within 6 months of their end of financial year. In our case 30 June 2020. However, with the Covid -19 restrictions the Dept of Consumer Affairs has extended this time-frame until 31 December 2020.

The problems we have faced have been venue availability, social distancing and the willingness of our vulnerable group to attend an AGM. At this stage we propose to conduct the AGM on the 17 October 2020, subject to venue availability and Covid-19 restrictions at that time.

If any of you are eager for the AGM to proceed because you wish to nominate for the Management Committee, GOOD NEWS, you are welcome to join the committee at any time. Please contact myself or the secretary to make your intention known.

41 Club Black Hat BBQ – My last discussion with the Commanding Officer, in early June, he indicated that this function would be ok to go ahead and unless things change dramatically and he and his staff are looking forward to assisting us in the day. COPIES OF EMU TRACKS

One of our members, Glenn McDonald, came across some Regimental relics during a cleanout inspired by the COVID-19 lockdown. He found copies of the Regimental yearly journal “EMU TRACKS” for the years 1990, 1991 and 1992. Glenn thoughtfully passed them on to the Association for distribution to the membership.

The 1990, 1991 and 1992 journals have been dis-tributed by Sandy Johns for your enjoyment. Thanks Glenn.

If members have other articles or memories they wish to share please send them to our Secretary, Sandy Johns.

DFRDB UPDATE - JUNE 2020

Introduction I hope everyone is safe and that no one has been too severely impacted by COVID-19.

Again, this is a short update, but that is no indication of the time we have spent on DFRDB.

The DFRDB Deception After reviewing all the evidence, we can now state without any doubt what has happened in the DFRDB scheme. Our view is expressed in a Letter to Senators (click on the link to view) who requested more information in response to an earlier approach from me.

You can download a template copy of this letter by clicking here. We encourage you to personalize it and send it to your local Member of Parliament and State Senators.

Herb has prepared another video The DFRDB Deception (click on the link to view), which presents the supporting evidence.

CDDA Application Herb was promised a decision on his General CDDA claim weeks ago but has so far heard nothing.

Legal Action We have sought further opinions from two Barristers who have given their time pro bono, as to the courses of legal action open to us.

We had already ruled out any challenge of provisions in the DFRDB Act or its interpretation. We have also ruled out any appeal relating to the Ombudsman’s Report, as it would serve no real purpose.

We have yet to see what the response will be to the CDDA claim, but it is unlikely that will serve as a suitable platform for a ‘Class Action’ type of appeal. Also, it can only be appealed in the Federal Court which encompasses a risk of high costs if we lose.

We intend to trigger another decision which we can appeal to the Administrative Appeals Tribunal. Its basis will be defective administration by Defence and Treasury which led to the DFRDB Act as it currently stands.

Stay safe.

Introduction

I hope everyone is safe and that no one has been too severely impacted by COVID-19. Again, this is a short update, but that is no indication of the time we have spent on DFRDB.

The DFRDB Deception

After reviewing all the evidence, we can now state without any doubt what has happened in the DFRDB scheme. CDDA Application

Herb was promised a decision on his General CDDA claim weeks ago but has so far heard nothing.

Legal Action

We have sought further opinions from two Barristers who have given their time pro bono, as to the courses of legal action open to us.

We had already ruled out any challenge of provisions in the DFRDB Act or its interpretation. We have also ruled out any appeal relating to the Ombudsman’s Report, as it would serve no real purpose. We have yet to see what the response will be to the CDDA claim, but it is unlikely that will serve as a suitable plat-form for a ‘Class Action’ type of appeal. How can you contribute?

Some Senators have shown interest in our case in fact one wrote, "this is no way to treat our ex-servicemen and women". We would like you to contact every Senator in your state or territory by adapting the letter (link) includ-ed in this update. To make it easy you will find the email addresses for all Senator's at https://www.aph.gov.au/senate/los

We need to flood them with letters and with an election next year 50% of them are up for re-election.

Stay safe.

DVA UPDATE : NEW VETERANS CARDSDVA Update

New Veterans Cards

In June this year, veterans with existing DVA health cards (Gold, White and Orange) expiring in July 2020 were sent new Veteran Cards in the mail (excluding those who had already received a new card). All health benefits and entitlements remain unchanged with the newly designed Veteran Cards. Notice for users of essential medical equipment

Are you a user of essential medical equipment? Are you medically required to use heating and cooling systems? If so, you may be eligible for an annual payment to assist with the running costs.

Veterans may be eligible to claim the annual Essential Medical Equipment Payment (EMEP) to help with energy costs associated with running essential medical equipment.

Thank you from a grateful nation

Acknowledging the significance of the 75th anniversary of the end of the Second World War, DVA will produce a Commemorative Medallion (pictured) and Certificate of Commemoration.

Every living veteran of the Second World War is eligible for the medallion and certificate, by application.

DVA will deliver a nationally televised commemorative service to mark the 75th anniversary of the end of the Second World War from inside the Australian War Memorial on Saturday, 15 August 2020, commencing at 10:00 am.

For more information on any and more initiatives visit the DVA website.
