THE FORUM OBJECTIVES AND MILESTONES

The Aerotelecom Forum is

an open congress conceived

as a bridge between

university talent and the

successful markets of

aeronautics and

telecommunications.

Organized by students on the

School on Telecommunication and

Aerospace Engineering (EETAC), it

creates an annual meeting point

to make it easy for leading

companies to broadcast

themselves upon the universitary

community or to meet other

talented companies on the sector.

On the other hand, students

can take advantage of a

unique opportunity to meet

the most representative

companies on the sector

personally, exchanging points

of view and showing them

their projects or personal

background.

To facilitate this reference

annual meeting, Parc UPC

and Universitat Politècnica

de Catalunya offer their

best infrastructures located

in the Mediterranean

Technology Park.

The RDIT Building, which is a

reference place for innovation and

research, will host the

Aerotelecom Forum on 16th May,

2013.

Several activities such as

conferences, roundtables and

workshops are organized for

both companies and students

to promote their projects and

activities.

AEROTELECOM BACKGROUND

THREE YEARS OF ENTREPRENEURSHIP

Since the foundation of the Castelldefels School

of Telecommunications and Aerospace

Engineering– EETAC, in 1991, it has been clear

that an internship in a company is an essential

part of the training of an engineer.

Last academic year, 135 companies have met the

talent of the EETAC students, hiring 228 students

and billing near 1 million euros. Among them,

enterprises such as Vodafone IBM or Iberia LAE

and P3 VOITH Aerospace have promoted students’

end-of-degree projects.

Internships have several benefits for companies:

They allow the company to meet highly

technologically formed candidates

They allow to get to know the student

better before hiring him.

They do not suppose a contractual

relationship: In Company practices are

purely academic agreements.

The Forum Aerotelecom was born in 2011 with the

objective of promoting this interrelationship

between students and companies, and to make it

easier for everyone to meet new enterprises and

opportunities.

With more than 20 participating companies, the

2011 and 2012 editions brought to the campus the

real spirit of aeronautics and telecommunications,

inspiring our students and creating new

opportunities for everyone.

THE SCENARIO

MEDITERRANEAN TECHNOLOGY PARK

The Aerotelecom Forum takes place at the

Mediterranean Technology Park (PMT), which is a

science and technology park that was set up by

the Autonomous Government of Catalonia, the

Regional Council of Baix Llobregat, Castelldefels

City Council and the Technical University of

Catalonia.

The PMT is a nerve centre for research and

innovation the aim of which is to create relations

between educational institutions, research

centres, companies with high technology content

and technology-based spin-off companies.

The PMT is a multi-disciplinary environment that

fosters research on the following fields:

Agri-Food Engineering and Biotechnology

Optical and Photonic Sciences and

Technologies

Geo-Information Technologies

Environmental Technologies

TELECOMMUNICATIONS AND AROSPACE

ENGINEERING

The Castelldefels School of Telecomunications

and Aerospace Engineering (EETAC) is a Higher

Education School of UPC specialized in technical

and scientific courses in Aeronautics and

Telecommunication (BSc, MSc and PhD) with a

reputation for excellence in Teaching, Innovation

and Quality. The school is also committed to

research activities in close contact with industry

to promote the transfer of results into practice.

Based in the Mediterranean Technology Park, it is

the main supporter for the Aerotelecom Forum,

as it clearly reinforces its working philosophy.

Its academic achievements are based on:

Being a pioneer in Spain of cooperative

and Project Based Learning with a reduced

number of students per class.

Continuous assessment system based on

students’ work.

Promotion of experiments and use of

laboratories, available at the students’

demand when there are no classes taking

place.

Practical training included in syllabus

(more than 250 students per year, around

500 h/student, contacts with more than

180 companies).

Despite the fact that all predictions indicate that

the European economic recession will be worse

in 2013, it is up to all of us to show to students

and companies that the real meaning of the word

‘crisis’ Is ‘opportunity’.

For this reason, several challenges are taken by

the organization this year:

The forum will be consolidated as an

international meeting point, encouraging

the participation of foreign companies.

This year’s milestone is to double the

number of participants of both the 2011

and 2012 editions.

In order to achieve this objectives, the following

measures will be applied :

Any aeronautical or telecommunications

company is exempt of paying the

participation fee for the 2013 edition.

The forum will take place at the RDIT

building, which is a clear symbol of

innovation and research.

PARTICIPATE! HOW TO BROADCAST YOUR COMPANY

Participating on the Forum Aerotelecom is very easy:

Every participant gets an exhibition space

at the RDIT building. The stand is the

place where the company can meet

personally one by one the visitors and

attend interested students

Companies have 45 minutes to expose

their activities on the Main Stage. The

access to the conferences is open and

free for everyone.

Any company is free to organize and

participate in symposiums and roundtables

using the several conferences rooms

allocated at the RDIT building.
