• The Dean Delivered a lecture at Tokyo University, 18 January. Contributed a paper titled, Financing Development Cooperation in

Northeast Asia, for the first issue of The Northeast Asian Economic Review, published by the Economic Research Institute for Northeast Asia.

B. RESEARCH

• ADBI–PRI Joint Conference: Fiscal Reconstruction. Fiscal Rule or Fiscal Crisis? Challenges to Fiscal Consolidation from a Global Perspective, was held at ADBI, 17 January. Dean Kawai presented a joint paper with Senior Consultant for Research Peter Morgan on Long-term Issues for Fiscal Sustainability and Fiscal Monitoring in Other Asian Countries, and delivered the closing remarks. Deputy Dean Jae Ha Park discussed the presented research papers on recent progress and prospects for future sustainability of fiscal policy.

C. CAPACITY BUILDING AND TRAINING (CBT)

• CBT Director Yuqing Xing and CBT Consultant Muhammad Cholifihani organized and attended the event, The 3rd ADBI-OECD-ILO Roundtable on Labor Migration in Asia: Assessing Labor Market Requirements for Foreign Workers and Developing Policies for Regional Skills Mobility, in Bangkok, 23–25 January.

• The first Asia Think Tank Summit, jointly organized by ADBI and Think Tanks and Civil Societies Program at the University of Pennsylvania (TTCSP), was held at ADBI, 12–14 June. Heads of 40 think tanks from 23 countries attended and exchanged views on global and regional issues. President Nakao delivered the keynote address. Dean Kawai delivered the welcome and closing remarks, and chaired the roundtable discussion. Deputy Dean Jae-Ha Park moderated the reception hosted by ADBI and TTCSP.

• The Asia Think Tank Summit Policy Dialogue
