Oktoberfest

Celebrated the fi rst weekend of October, Fort Belvoir’s Oktoberfest is one of the largest cel-ebrations in the DC area. Th is four-day festival features German food, music, a Volksmarch and carnival. Oktoberfest begins with the offi cial keg-tapping ceremony hosted by the Instal-lation Commander and a Commander from the German Army. “O’zapft is!” (“It’s tapped!” in the Austro-Bavarian language) is shouted and four-days of fun begins.

Oktoberfest is open to the public and sees up to 10,000 people per day. Some sponsorship opportunities include logo inclusion on Fort Belvoir’s web site, www.belvoirmwr.com, logo inclusion in advertisments sent to several local papers, as well as logo inclusion in a special Oktoberfest insert published in the Belvoir Eagle, which has a circulation rate of 19,000. Member/Guest Golf Tournament

When the Fort Belvoir Golf Club hosts its annual Member/Guest Golf Tournament in October, participants enjoy two full days of quality golf, food and entertainment. Th is year’s tournament is scheduled to take place on Friday, October 8th and Saturday, October 9th. Sponsorship opportunities include participation in the tournament. Freedom Fest

Every July 4th, Fort Belvoir hosts one of the largest fi reworks shows in Northern Virginia. Foot traffi c on the Parade Field for Freedom Fest averages around 4,000–5,000 people who enjoy live entertainment, food, games and, of course, the fi reworks display.

Fort Belvoir Army Volunteer Corps (AVC)

Volunteers are Fort Belvoir’s unsung heroes. Most organizations rely heavily on volunteer participation. To thank them for their service an Army Volunteer Corps Installation Recognition Ceremony is held each spring. Th is luncheon often supports over 1,000 participants.

Fort Belvoir Army Family Team Building (AFTB)

AFTB contributes to the Army mission by educating and training the Army family to be self-suffi cient leaders within their communities. Courses are off ered throughout the year.

Fort Belvoir Army Family Action Plan (AFAP)

A process that lets Soldiers, Families, retirees and DoD civilians say what’s working, what isn’t and what they think will fi x it. It alerts Commanders and Army leaders to areas of concern that need their attention and it gives them the opportunity to quickly put plans into place to work towards resolving the issues. An annual forum, known as the AFAP Symposium, occurs annually for issues to be brought up in working groups and narrowed down to top issues to present to the Garrison Commander.

Month of the Military Child

April is the Month of the Military Child and Child Abuse Prevention Awareness Month. MWR provides a variety of activities to honor the military child and off ers education on Child Abuse Prevention. Activities—such as a free dinner, guest speakers and workshops for parents—take place throughout the installation. Attendance averages from 300–400 for the dinner and hundreds participate in Parent University. April 2010 saw over 600 participants at Kid Fest, a MOMC event celebrating Military Child Appreciation.

Military Family Appreciation Month

November is Military Family Appreciation Month, when Fort Belvoir honors those families with a month-long celebration. MWR’s Army Community Service has events at the Community Center and hosts a free dinner with games, prizes, and entertainment. On average, 300–400 military Families participate in the events.

Van Noy Library

MWR supports children’s love of books and the adventures they hold. To help grow this interest, Fort Belvoir’s Van Noy Library will celebrate National Library Week in April. Th e celebration of reading continues June through August with Van Noy Library’s Summer Reading Program when children are encouraged to track the amount of books read during the summer. At the end of the program children receive prizes based on the number of books they read. Last summer, a total of 3,480 books were read.

Aquatics and Pools

Fort Belvoir has four pools—three outdoor and one indoor—available for all MWR patrons. Pool Programs are held throughout the year and include Float and Movie Parties (about 6 per year) where Families can enjoy a current blockbuster movie from the comfort of their fl oating lounger.

Fort Belvoir Aquatics created a Swim, Run, Walk for Your Life Program, which is a cardio Fitness Incentive Program. Participants receive incentive awards based on achieving specifi c mileage goals.

Automotive Crafts

Fort Belvoir’s fi rst annual Show & Shine car show was a huge success with over 150 cars entered to win a variety of categories. If your target audience includes members of the auto industry then this sponsorship opportunity is hard to pass up. Opportunities include, but are not limited to, a banner to be hung at event or a sponsor presence at the event.

Bowling Center

Th e Bowling Center off ers many fun Family events throughout the year, such as their New Year’s Eve Cosmic Bowling and Fall Festival. In addition to events, the Bowling Center has over 700 league bowlers and hosts many tournaments for players of all ages.Advertising opportunities are also available at the Bowling Center.

Physical fi tness is an intricate part of any military force—the Army is no exception and off ers its members a variety of programs to increase a Soldier’s well being. Sponsorship of Sports, Fitness and Wellness Programs off er you an opportunity to help maintain various MWR programs to support the physical fi tness of Soldiers, their Families and DoD civilians. All sponsorships include a sponsor banner to be hung at the event, inclusion of company logo on some promotional materials, and many off er a sponsor presence at the events. Advertising opportunities are also available at Graves Fitness Center, Specker Field House, Wells Field House and � e Body Shop.

Intramural Sports Programs

Off ers various Fort Belvoir units an opportunity to compete against each other in a variety of sports activities. Winning teams receive the coveted Commander’s Cup at the end of the season. Better Opportunities for Single Soldiers (BOSS)

Supporting the overall quality of Single Soldiers’ lives, the BOSS program originated in 1989 to respond to the recreational needs of Single Soldiers ages 18–25 who make up 35% of the Army. BOSS encourages and assists Single Soldiers in identifying and planning for recreational and leisure activities. MWR develops events throughout the year to cater to their Single Soldier. In addition, a Single Soldiers Appreciation Day celebration is held annually.

Special Events

Pooch Plunge—we all know most dogs love the water and what better way to cool off than to take a dip in a full-size swimming pool! Th is one-day fall Family fun event is the ideal way to spend the afternoon with your furriest Family member. Th is event includes a doggy ice cream eating contest, best dressed and best trick competitions. Attendance averages 150 dogs and 400 people.

BUNCO—a dice game, a parlor game, a social event and just plain FUN! Th is extremely popular event is held two Tuesdays a month through the end of May. Prizes are awarded each night for most Bunco’s, most wins and most losses.

Family Fun Days—Fort Belvoir MWR also hosts quarterly family fun days. Each event is catered to the season and off ers Families a chance to relax and just enjoy spending time with each other in a safe and fun atmosphere. Past events have included Bounce and Splash, Fall Fest, Spring Fest and Phone Home for the Holidays.

Pampered pooches celebrate Doggie Days. Th is one-day event gives Families a time to recreate with their canine Family members. Th e event has fun pooch-friendly activities, informational vendors and human-friendly entertainment.

Fort Belvoir also provides other outdoor activities like canoe/kayaking lessons, fi shing lessons, archery lessons, hiking and a Geocaching Scavenger Hunt. During fall 2009, the fi rst ever Turkey Trot had over 240 participants and is scheduled to be held again in 2010. A similar event, Spring into SPRING, had 200 participants. Other sponsorship possibilities include: Aerobathon, Health Fair, Fitness Week, Tennis Mixer, Breast Cancer Awareness, as well as other developing programs.

Youth Sports Programs

Youth Sports and Fitness targets children ages 3–18. Fort Belvoir Army Volunteer Corps (AVC)

Volunteers are Fort Belvoir’s unsung heroes. Most organizations rely heavily on volunteer participation. To thank them for their service an Army Volunteer Corps Installation Recognition Ceremony is held each spring. Th is luncheon often supports over 1,000 participants.

Fort Belvoir Army Family Team Building (AFTB)

AFTB contributes to the Army mission by educating and training the Army family to be self-suffi cient leaders within their communities. Courses are off ered throughout the year.

Fort Belvoir Army Family Action Plan (AFAP)

A process that lets Soldiers, Families, retirees and DoD civilians say what’s working, what isn’t and what they think will fi x it. It alerts Commanders and Army leaders to areas of concern that need their attention and it gives them the opportunity to quickly put plans into place to work towards resolving the issues. An annual forum, known as the AFAP Symposium, occurs annually for issues to be brought up in working groups and narrowed down to top issues to present to the Garrison Commander.

Freedom Fest

Every July 4th, Fort Belvoir hosts one of the largest fi reworks shows in Northern Virginia. Foot traffi c on the Parade Field for Freedom Fest averages around 4,000–5,000 people who enjoy live entertainment, food, games and, of course, the fi reworks display.

Oktoberfest

Celebrated the fi rst weekend of October, Fort Belvoir’s Oktoberfest is one of the largest cel-ebrations in the DC area. Th is four-day festival features German food, music, a Volksmarch and carnival. Oktoberfest begins with the offi cial keg-tapping ceremony hosted by the Instal-lation Commander and a Commander from the German Army. “O’zapft is!” (“It’s tapped!” in the Austro-Bavarian language) is shouted and four-days of fun begins.

Oktoberfest is open to the public and sees up to 10,000 people per day. Some sponsorship opportunities include logo inclusion on Fort Belvoir’s web site, www.belvoirmwr.com, logo inclusion in advertisments sent to several local papers, as well as logo inclusion in a special Oktoberfest insert published in the Belvoir Eagle, which has a circulation rate of 19,000. Member/Guest Golf Tournament

When the Fort Belvoir Golf Club hosts its annual Member/Guest Golf Tournament in October, participants enjoy two full days of quality golf, food and entertainment.
