Dear Parents,

Please join me in welcoming our new principal! Last night, Thursday, May 8, 2014, the Forsyth County Board of Education approved the appointment of Mrs. Kimberly Davis as Principal of Coal Mountain Elementary School for the 2014-2015 school year. Mrs. Davis has extensive experience at the elementary and middle school levels, and in the area of special education. She has served as an assistant principal for 10 years both in Gwinnett County and Forsyth County. She is presently in her seventh year as assistant principal at Settles Bridge Elementary School.

We will be scheduling dates for Mrs. Davis to meet our faculty and parents, as well as our PTO Board and our Local School Council. She is committed to serving students, teachers, parents, and the community, and will, no doubt, propel Coal Mountain to new levels of excellence. Please join me in welcoming Mrs. Davis to our Coal Mountain Family!

We also want to celebrate two great teams from Coal Mountain! Our Robotics Team recently competed in the World Vex Competition in Anaheim, California. Our students worked hard and represented us extremely well.

It was also a wonderful learning experience for us all! A special thank you goes to our Robotics Coaches,

We also want to congratulate our Stock Market Team who placed third out of 250+ entries! With their wise investments, they were able to accrue over $108,000. Well done Brooke Dahoney, Preston Dunford, and Chase Lee. Mrs. Wickman is

proud!

This past Tuesday evening, we had wonderful events happening “on the mountain”! At 5:00 Mrs. Schwaemmle was privileged to hold an ESOL dinner meeting with over 40 of our fabulous ESOL families attending! At 5:30, we opened our Twenty First Century Media Center and we were able to thank all of those who made this possible. A special thanks goes to Browns Bridge Community Church, the Dittig Family, Lanier 400 Rotary Club, and our PTO Board and Coal Mountain families! Afterward, we held our PTO meeting and then were treated to a wonderful, fun filled, Science Night. Denise Webb worked closely with Donna Governor and Christina Curtis from North Forsyth High School to make this event happen. A big thank you goes to these dedicated educators and the wonderful high school student mentors that ran our science labs throughout the evening. GREAT JOB!

In closing, all of us at CMES send our heartfelt thanks to all of you for the wonderful display of treats, flowers, gifts, and good wishes throughout Teacher Appreciation Week. Our PTO Board has provided wonderful daily treats, lunch, gifts…the list goes on! I can’t begin to tell you how much your support, kindness, and generosity means to entire faculty. THANK YOU!!

The Bond for Schools is an opportunity for Forsyth County voters to address four areas:

Improvements to existing schools School safety Technology Growth (includes a list of proposed projects for middle and high

schools)

If the Bond for Schools is approved, funds would be available fall, 2014 and work would begin on proposed projects at existing schools continuing until 2018. The financing for this bond is structured to not increase the bond debt millage rate as long as SPLOST (Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax) is extended by voters. If the Bond for Schools is not approved by voters the proposed projects may not be completed.

ATTENTION PARENTS:Our automated system will not allow further meal charges to student accounts after May 2, 2014. Students without funds will be offered a courtesy meal of sandwich and milk.

Please check account balances to determine the funds needed for meals for the remainder of this school year. Money on customer accounts will carry forward to next school year. Remember to note your child’s Student ID on your check or to include it with cash in an envelope. We accept Free and Reduced Applications each school day.

Attention!!!!! Summer Camps

We have had a poor response to our Summer Camp offerings.  We only had enough registrations returned for the Robotics and the Clay, Crafts & Creative Arts Camps to be held.  Unfortunately all of our other camps did not receive enough interest and will not be offered.  If you signed up for one of our other camps, your registration fee has been returned.  We are sorry for any inconvenience this may cause.
