    beautiful, which I am sure it is. Country of 23 million

    people, they prefer to call the island Taiwan of course.

    Northern Taiwan is a land of great contrasts,from high mountain peaks to white sandy beaches,

    with stunning waterfalls, hot springs and old gold

    mining towns along the way.

    The Central Taiwan is home to the highest,most dramatic landscapes in Taiwan, excellent

    hiking country among the bamboo forests,

    waterfalls and peaks ofAlishan and Tungpu.

    Chinese New Year Lantern Festival

    Matsu's Birthday Dragon Boat Festival

    China New Year is celebrated on

    the first day of the first new moon

    of the year.

    Pingxi Sky LanternFestivalOn the 15th day of the first

    moon, the towns of Yenshui,

    Luerhmen and Peikang literally

    erupt with color and spectacle as

    the lantern Festival begins.

    Sky Lanterns, also known as

    Kongming Lantern are fliyng paper

    lanterns traditionally found in some

    Asian cultures.

    On Matsu's birthday (the 23rd day of the 3rd Moon)

    celebrations in her honor are held at Tao Temples.

    On the fifth day of the fifth moon, a major day

    of racing is held across the island. Taiwanese

    people also regard this day as a time to prepare

    and eat steamed rice zongzi dumplings.

    ghosts dominate the island of

    Taiwan. Sometimes called the

    Mid-Summer Ghost Festival .

    On the seventh day of the

    seven moon - it is Lover's day-

    the Chinese equivalent of St

    Valentines day.

    The Moon Festival is falls on the

    15th day of the 8th moon, there are

    plenty of spectacular fireworksdisplays throughout the night, and

    bakeries everywhere sell traditional

    Moon Cakes.

    The radiance of October in Taiwan is ushered in
