FORMER’S COMPANY PROFILE

Former, was established in 1967, among the furniture industry in Cantu.That year, the company began its manufacturing phase thanks to the experienced artisans in this industry in the area of Cantu. Since the early1900’s, Cantu’s history included the development of indoor manufacturingcomplexes that exceeded 30.000 sq.m. The company’s manufacturing skillscomplements the technological precision. Former’s modular systems arepopular among the public who admires the high quality standards and themodern designs. Its “historic” collections such as “Euro”, “Zeronove” and“Plinto” define an aesthetical sensibility and taste for furniture. Because of itsmodularity, it is suitable and easily applicable to every architectural require-ment without compromising any structural bond. Former launched “SetSystem” as its first collection designed for home storage. App is Former’s newest wardrobe system. It was designed by PinuccioBorgonovo and it fully embraces the philosophy of aiming for innovation. App, which stands for Architectural Partition Project, is a system that caneasily be interpreted or translated. It maintains the traditional idea and functionof a wardrobe, though giving it an aesthetical and architectural shape for thebenefit of residential space. APP is timeless. It is enhanced by high style andfunctionality as captured by Cell, its walk-in closet solution. Roberto Lazzeroni’s newest additions to the collection are the Nelson book-case, Everyone sideboard, Ernest writing-desk, Lucille chair, Stone River andBill tables, Studio Reverso’s Mikael bed and Lisbeth lounge chair, Piva &Associates’s Me Too valet stand and Lea armchair, Claesson, Koivisto, Rune’sFarnsworth coffee table and Pinuccio Borgonovo’s Sign and Display sideboards.The new items, designed by heterogeneous and prestigious pencils, amplifythe amount and the importance of the collaboration between Former and theworld of design. In general, Former’s current production consists of modularsystems for both the living areas and the sleeping areas. In the living area thecollection provides equipped walls and sideboards. Also, the collections providesthe sleeping area with such items as beds, bed frames, chests of drawersand night tables, including also wardrobes, furnishing accessories and mirrors.

ROBERTO LAZZERONI’S BIOGRAPHY

Roberto Lazzeroni was born in Pisa, the town where he has chosen to live and

to work. His professional training is the result of studies - Art and Architecture

in Florence. From the beginning he has always shown an interest both in the

phenomena of the world of conceptual art and in the ones of radical design.

In the early 80’s he started to be interested in industrial and interior design, a

specialization which he defines “fundamental” for the following approach to

the world of the “industrial product”. A fine connoisseur of the history of

design and its related signs, he is very skillful to put daily into practice this kno-

wledge. Talking about his own projects, Lazzeroni uses the expression of “sen-

timental design”; it is indeed easy, even for an untrained eye, to see the ten-

sion between past and furure in this works. This trend is nowadays defined

as “transitive design”. The signs of past are somehow recognizable; they are

clearly worked out again and the outcome is a real and balanced tension bet-

ween past and future. Lazzeroni’s background and his way to understand

design have caused his specialization to Art direction. Today he works espe-

cially at the “total concept” which is hidden behind the birth of a trademark.

After the experience with Ceccotti Collezioni which started in 1988, today

Lazzeroni has started to collaborate also with many others important firms. All

experiences where he is directly responsible of every aspect linked to the

birth and the development of a firm. A very “dinamic” career with some preci-

se costants that show Roberto Lazzeroni always involved in two different direc-

tions: his stuies and his professional interests which have made of him an

undisputed protagonist of important exhibitions, and his approach to a

design that is absolutely integrated in the everyday reality of interior space.

Marzia and Leonardo, architects and designers, established in 2007 studioReverso. As far as their headquarters, they chose a seventeenth century rusticHouse in the heart of Tuscany, that has been restored with a modern twist.This location is well suited for their project methodology: to translate the Past in the grace of forms, in the simplicity of sign, in the sincerity of project.A route, marked by the expression of innovative ideas, has allowed them toObtain collaborations as art directors and planners with leading Furniturecompanies. Their strength is following the whole project: From the initial idea to the model developed with craftsmen, from the Production tothe communication of the product.

Thanks to a wide range of skills they are active in a lot of areas of designincluding product, interior, exhibition and graphic.

BIOGRAPHY PIvA ASSOCIATI

Piva Associati was founded in 2007 by Oliver, Daniel and Max Piva. With a

background of years of close collaboration with Paolo Piva they have

developed their individual ideas and concepts of design and architecture.

With Piva Associati they founded a platform to create and present their work.

Oliver Piva, born in Padova in 1972, studied architecture at I.U.A.V. in Venice.

Since 2001 has worked an architect. Daniel Piva, born in Padova in 1974, stu-

died at I.U.A.V. in Venice and at the University of Applied Arts in Vienna. Since

2001 has worked a designer. Max Piva, born in Biella in 1984, studied Design at

the University of Applied Arts in Vienna. Since 2010 has worked between

art,design and photography.

FARNSwORTH Design Claesson Koivisto RuneYear of production: 2012

The Farnsworth House is one of Architect Ludwig Mies van der Rohe’s moresignificant works. He created The Farnsworth House in 1951 and it is still con-sidered as being one of the most famous examples of modernist domesticarchitecture of the 1950’s. In creating this collection of tables we were stronglyinfluenced by this piece of compelling architecture. The rectangular tables isvery similar to the house itself, and the circular tables work well both as aconcept extension as well as a complement to the rectangular and squaretables. We choose to see these tables as a tribute to Mies van der Rohe andthe work that he has done.

BIOGRAPHY PINuCCIO BORGONOvO

Pinuccio Borgonovo was born in Giussano (Milan-Italy) in 1956. Following hisstudies at the State Art Institute of Cantù, he joined the Design Centre of amajor furniture company, where he acquired extensive experience in R&Dwithin the field of products industrial design. In 1987, he went free-lance andworked as a consultant for some leading furniture companies. In collaborationwith their R&D Centers and designers, he created products of internationalsuccess. In 1992, he started cooperating with FORMER, designing a furniturecollection based on innovative concepts that led to the development of thefirst modular system to appear on the market with finished multi-purpose elements. In 2001 for CITTERIO, he created a new home concept founded ona space where there is interaction of products characterized by an evidenttechnical arrangement: a modular system, a collection of tables (recommendedfor the Compasso d’Oro 2005), a program/system for closing and subdividingthe space (doors, sliding and partition walls). In addition to products designand industrialization, he is art director for some companies and responsiblefor their image and communication strategies. He designs for several companiesof the furniture industry, including Citterio, Flou, Former, Gallotti e Radice,Pamar.


CELL Designer pinuccio Borgonovoyear of production: 2012

Cell walk-in closet is the natural evolution of App wardrobe system and it canbe placed either on the wall or on App backside. It is made up of modularpanels with different widths (from 96 to 288 cm with a 32 cm distance bet-ween intermediate points) and different heights (from 32 to 96 cm). The topscan be either on the ground or hung to the wall. They all have a thickness of3,5 cm. Everything is completed by chests of drawers and hives together withuseful accessories such as trouser-holders, tie-holders and mirrors.

Sign sideboard can be both on the ground and hung to the wall. Its main characteristic is its façade because it is made up of modular slats of differentwidths which create a curious discontinuity if combined together randomly.

Its structure includes a lower space which is coveredby doors or drawers and an upper space which is held by a transparent thincrystal top. This is its versatile feature as it can be both a storage unit and adisplay element.
