PresentationsComponents:• Plans:

– Floor (spatial layout)– Plot (land topography, easements, setbacks, ingress/egress)– Landscape (plant material and watering system location– Foundation– Electrical, Plumbing, HVAC– Truss

• Sections and details• Elevations• Renderings of interior & exterior perspectives, elevations, plot,

floor plans, sections• 3D models• Budget, projected costs• Specifications Manual• Research citations

PlansPurpose: to show the location of all the design features in a design project, done by hand or on computerIncludes: drawings, sections, elevations, schedules, details

Page 5: Forging new generations of engineers. CEA Presentations

Sections and DetailsSections

– Drawn to show the vertical relationships of the structural materials called for on the floor, framing, roof, and foundation plans.

– Show the methods of construction

Details– Type of section– Used to provide information about a small,

complicated area of a structure

Page 6: Forging new generations of engineers. CEA Presentations

Elevations• Essential part of the design and drafting

process• A group of drawings that show the

exterior of a building• An orthographic drawing

– Shows one side of a building– Exterior shapes and finishes– Vertical relationships of the building levels

• Used in conjunction with sections and floor plans

Renderings

Materials used: pencil, ink, water colors, marker, tempera, colored pencil, applique/overlay, and air brush

Purpose: to add an element of realism that would not otherwise be there with the use of shades, shadows, and textures

Types: exterior and interior perspective, elevations, plot plan, floor plan, and sections

3D models

Purpose: to represent the final design in a physical form that shows it as realistically as possible, computer generated or fabricated

Advantage: can be moved around and viewed from any angle; show interior and exterior details; the addition of scaled objects (people, furniture, vehicles) gives visual clues as to the actual size

Page 9: Forging new generations of engineers. CEA Presentations

Budget and Projected CostsPurpose: To give the client a realistic estimate on the cost of construction and to follow a plan of expenses to enable the client to stay within his or her expectations.

Page 10: Forging new generations of engineers. CEA Presentations

SpecificationsPurpose: Provides the necessary written information to describe the materials, methods, and fixtures used in the design project.

Research Citations• Provide source information of all ideas, concepts,

pictures, and other materials that are not created by the team

• Use the APA Style of citation– Author name, last name first and first name with initials
