ForewordsWe are closing a year of intense activities at EUPIC. Started as a project initiated and financed by the European Union, EUPIC has supported hundreds of European companies in the launch of their business and cooperation activities in China. During these years, we have become an important platform in the EU-China business and innovation exchanges, promoting not only trade but also investment, technology cooperation and joint innovation projects between the two economies. Technology clusters, research centers and universities have progressively involved EUPIC in their international projects while many dynamic and innovative EU small and medium enterprises have activated our most competitive resources through the Enterprise Europe Network channel. Given the increasingly complex macroeconomic scenario, the requests for competitive solutions, especially in the internationalization and advanced cooperation in the technology fields, have increased noticeably.EUPIC is fully engaged in providing new cooperation opportunities in line with

these requirements. Our flagship event - the EU-China Business & Technology Cooperation Fair (ECBTF), reaching this year its thirteenth edition - was also structured in order to meet these requirements coming from both the institutional and corporate side. You will read through the following pages how the multidimensional structure of this year edition, themed “Focusing on New Economy, Seeking for New Development”, has reached its targets.In total 228 representatives of governments, institutions and enterprises from 25 Countries - including 16 EU Member States–have reached Chengdu this year to attend our event, while more than 700 enterprises’ representatives from all over China participated to our Event. The ECBTF has proposed this year 12 specialized sessions, among them: the “EU-China New Economy Development” forum, the “Roundtable on Sino-European Cooperation for Convention and Exhibition Industry”, the “Green Economy Seminar”, the “Europe Day for Investment: Invest in Poland”, the “Europe Day for Tourism & Culture: Visit Europe”. The B2B matchmaking meetings had of course their traditional central space in the event, as booster for direct business opportunities and projects’ cooperation.This edition of ECBTF was distinctively brightened by the presence and support of Ms. Elżbieta Bieńkowska, the EU Commissioner for Internal Market, Industry, Entrepreneurship and SMEs -at her very first visit to China- and her Cabinet. Regional industry cooperation and SMEs partnership on innovation between Europe and China were among the main topics raised during her visit to the Business & Innovation Centre for China-Europe Cooperation (CCEC), the new comprehensive business and innovation platform implemented by EUPIC in Chengdu. The CCEC - aiming to facilitate and accelerate the business and innovation exchanges among companies, organizations and research centres from Europe and China and to provide systematic services for European SMEs and institutions to explore business opportunities in China - has been defined by Ms. Bieńkowska “first-class one-stop shop to support European companies doing business in China”.The 13th edition of ECBTF has also succeeded in helping EU and Chinese participants to recognize, once more, the significant potential brought-in by each other and has substantially enhanced their cooperation in various industrial sectors and formats. I would like to take this opportunity toexpress my deepest thanks to the China Chamber of International Commerce (CCOIC), the Chengdu Municipal Government, the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT) Chengdu Sub-council (Chengdu Municipal Bureau of Exposition), the Chengdu Hi-tech Zone Management Committee, the European Commission, in particular the DG Internal Market, Industry, Entrepreneurship and SMEs, the European Delegation in Beijing and all the embassies and partners from the EU Member States. We could not make our Event such compelling and successful without their support.

Roundtable on Sino-European Cooperation for Convention and Exhibition Industry

September 19, 2018 – The Roundtable on Sino-European Cooperation for Convention and Exhibition Industry was successfully held at Hilton Chengdu. Ms. Liu Xiaoliu, Vice Mayor of Chengdu Municipal People's Government attended the event and delivered a speech. The event gathered exhibition organizations and business associations from both China and EU to explore bilateral cooperation potential in the sectors. EU-China Conference & Exhibition Industry Cooperation Initiative in Chengdu was released during the Roundtable to further enhance the communication and cooperation in convention and exhibition industry.





Lodzkie Region Department of Promotion & International Cooperation and Chengdu Sub-Council of China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (Chengdu Municipal Bureau of Exposition) have signed a Memorandum of Cooperation in order to pro-actively cooperate within the Belt and Road Initiative framework, deepening their mutual understanding and promotion of bilateral economic and trade relations.

EU-China B2B Matchmaking Meetings

September 20, 2018 – This edition’s EU-China B2B Matchmaking Meetings was held at Hilton Chengdu. 140 European companies and nearly 400 Chinese counterparts active in the sectors of new energy & environmental protection, modern agriculture, general aviation, bio-pharmaceuticals, mechanical manufacturing and IT/ICT have attended the one-to-one meetings.





EUPIC has signed a MOU with the Research Institute for Water and Waste Management at RWTH Aachen University (FiW), Business Development Agency of Kaiserslautern of Germany and Urban Forum of Austria respectively to further promote the bilateral cooperation among research institute, universities and hi-tech enterprises in fields of environmental protection, new energy and talent exchange program.

During the match-making meetings, 9 cooperation agreements have been signed on-site, involving 7 local enterprises and international counterparts from France, Lithuania, and Brazil.

September 18, 2018 – A Briefing on Opportunities, Challenges and Best Practices on Doing Business in China was successfully held at Business & Innovation Centre for China-Europe Cooperation (CCEC). EUPIC, the European Union Chamber of Commerce in China (EUCCC) Southwest Chapter and the EU SME Centre delivered presentations on the Chinese investment environment and market, on best practices Doing Business in China and the business and innovation opportunities offered by the new CCECecosystem to European dynamic SMEs willing to initiate new ventures in China.
