FOREWORD

In 2015 the Parish Council and a few volunteers carried out a survey, the results of which called for more social and leisure activities in the Parish. We have made a start by putting together this brochure of the many local activities. Please keep it for future reference. Then there is a big get together for the residents of Hodnet, Marchamley, Peplow and Wollerton, the Right Royal Party, on Saturday June 11th on Hodnet Recreation Ground. You will find a programme inside of what's happening at the event. On the day you can sign up for a club or group, or make some suggestions for what you would like in future. So bring out your flags, a hat or any other patriotic item you would like to wear, and join in the fun. The celebration of the Queens birthday is organised by, and for, residents from all parts of the parish. The day would not have been possible without the generosity of local businesses and benefactors in their gifts of time, finance and resources. Stewart and Irena Ralphs moved to the beautiful Hawk Lake in 2011 to establish a fishing and caravan business. There are 5 touring and 45 static caravan pitches. After substantial & careful restoration, the park provides a peaceful retreat for fishing, relaxing and observing the wildlife. The lake has a selection of fish, from big Carp (up to 30lb), to Roach, Perch, Bream, Tench, Rudd and Pike. Day and Season Fishing are both available.

Formerly set in the grounds of historic Hawkstone Hall, Hawk Lake was created around 1776 to form a representation of The Serpentine in London, where the owner, Sir Rowland Hill, also had a residence.

In the 1930’s, the Ralphs purchased the farm, and after a period out of family ownership, Stewart and Irena Ralphs could not believe their luck when they were successful in their bid to buy Hawk Lake in 2011 and also to restore their cottage, which dates back to the 1770s.
