EDITORIAL FOREWORD Introduction to this special edition of the Veterinary Quarterly This special edition of the Veterinary Quarterly contains the papers presented at the Final Meeting of Concerted Action CT93 0909, held at the Institute for Animal Science and Health (ID-DLO), Lelystad on the 28th and 29th April 1997. The objective of the meeting was to review progress on the Concerted Action, a three year project sponsored by the Commission of the European Communities to investigate the potential of diagnostic tests which measure antibody to the non-structural proteins offoot-and-mouth dis- ease virus to differentiate infected from vaccinated animals. The first paper 'Differentiating infection from vaccination in foot-and-mouth disease: Summary and conclusion of the Final Meeting of Concerted Action CT93-0909 summarises the results and conclusions of the meeting and reviews their significance in terms of the potential use of NS protein antibody tests in FMD diagnosis.
