FOREST STATISTICS FOR SOUTHEAST ALABAMA COUNTIES

S t a f f : F o r e s t I n v e n t o r y and A n a l y s i s Research Work U n i t

These t a b l e s were d e r i v e d f rom d a t a o b t a i n e d d u r i n g a 1982 i n v e n t o r y o f 21 c o u n t i e s c o m p r i s i n g t h e Southeast U n i t o f Alabama ( f i g . 1). The d a t a on f o r e s t acreage and t i m b e r volume were secured by a s y s t e m a t i c sampl ing method i n v o l v i n g a f o r e s t - n o n f o r e s t c l a s s i f i c a t i o n on a e r i a l photographs and on- the-ground rneasure- ments of t r e e s a t sample l o c a t i o n s . The sample l o c a t i o n s were a t t h e i n t e r s e c - t i o n s of a g r i d o f l i n e s spaced 3 m i l e s a p a r t . A t each f o r e s t l o c a t i o n , p e r a c r e e s t i m a t e s were o b t a i n e d f r o m 5 BA 37.5 p o i n t samples.
