The Forensics program serves the BS and MS degree programs in Cybersecurity as a critical part of each degree or as a four course certificate. There are approximately 250 undergraduate and graduate students which take Forensics courses and have the opportunity to sit for certification exams.

Training our FutureOur world is digital. There has never been a time like today, with all of our lives dramatically impacted both positively and negatively by digital data. Coupled with the fact that our digital data is mobile, just like our own lives, accessing the information can be tedious. Users can be working anywhere in the world using a multitude of apps and features; all from their smart devices. With this firmily in our mind, we must train a new kind of investigator to tackle this new digital landscape. No more are we relegated to a pen and paper, camera, and six basic questions (who, what, when, why, where, and how). Today, we are exposing crimes, misdeeds, and more by using sophisticated software to extract, decode, and analyze data from both the device, and the cloud. An excerpt from Mobile Forensic Investigations: A Guide to Evidence Collection, Analysis, and Presentation, the textbook used for Captiol Technology University’s for mobile forensic curriculum, states:

The proliferation of mobile devices will only increase with the world’s population growth and as this population’s dependency on technology accelerates. Now should be the time to accept and understand that the information contained on a mobile device details, documents, and exposes the thoughts, actions, and deeds of a user substantially more than any data stored on a personal computer. With this unprecedented amount of electronic evidence comes the need for highly skilled mobile device forensics investigators.

By training our future investigators on the basics of mobile device forensics, while using an industry leading tool, our future looks extremely bright.
