    NEPAL FOREIGN TRADE STATISTICS

    FISCAL YEAR 2017/18 (2074/75)

  • PREFACE

Department of Customs has been publishing Nepal’s international trade statistics regularly. This publication “Nepal Foreign Trade Statistics: Fiscal Year 2017/18 (2074/75)” has covered Nepal’s annual international trade in goods over the Nepalese fi scal year 2074/75.

During the fi scal year 2074/75, imports increased nearly by 26% and exports nearly by 11%. As a result, the trade defi cit subjected to increase nearly by 27%. The exports share to total trade also signifi cantly decreased nearly by 11%. This larger trade gap demands a huge amount of fi nancial fl ows to be invest in economically productive sectors.

The statistics presented in this publication offers valuable insights of Nepal’s merchandise trade. The publication sheds light on the structural division of commodities being traded and Nepal’s trade relation with the regional and global marketplace. Besides, it also summarizes the commodity wise revenue collection, which expected to assist fi scal policy evaluation and pave appropriate revenue collection strategy for the future. This publication, therefore, would serve for a wider section of the society namely business communities, public policy leaders, academia and other more.

I appreciate Deputy Director Generals Mr. Narayan Prasad Sapkota and Ms. Manamaya Bhattarai Pangeni for overall guidance for the publication. In addition, the many hours devoted to compiling, processing and tabulating of this piece of work by the staffs of the Statistics Analysis Section, Director Mr. Binod Sharan Acharya, Statistics Offi cers Ram Prasad Wagle and Sharada Sharma and Computer Offi cer Shyam Neupane, who retained the overall responsibility for this publication, are acknowledged.
