Assembly Plant.

The Ford Assembly Plant is located within 14 miles of the

Homewood Suites Louisville East. From the hotel travel I-264 W

for 6.3 miles to Exit 12 to merge onto I-65 S toward Nashville.

Take Exit 128 for Fern Valley Rd toward KY-1631. Keep right at

the fork, follow signs for KY-1631 E/Fern Valley Rd E and merge

onto Fern Valley Rd. The plant will be on the left

To reach the Ford Truck Assembly Plant, a distance of 7 miles,

travel southeast on N Hurstbourne Pkwy toward US-60

E/Shelbyville Rd; make a U-turn at US-60 E/Shelbyville Rd; turn

right at Westport Rd and turn right at Chamberlain Ln. The plant

will be on the left.

In 1955, Ford Motor Company opened the Louisville Assembly

Plant, initiating a big boost to Louisville’s economy. The

automobile manufacturing plant is 3,154,173 square-feet, sits

on 400 acres and employs over 2,000 people. It is located on

the south side of Louisville, adjacent to the Louisville

International Airport. Ford vehicles currently assembled here

include the Ford Explorer, Ford Explorer Sport Trac and the

Mercury Mountaineer.

With the success and sustainability of the first assembly plant,

Ford opened a second plant in 1969 – the Ford Motor

Kentucky Truck Plant. This plant is located on 500 acres in

the northeast corner of Louisville and is 4,626,490 square feet. The truck plant employs over 5,000

people and boasts an hourly average vehicle output of 75! Some of Ford’s most well known trucks

are manufactured here, including their Super Duty Line, F-250 to F-550, as well as the Ford

Expedition and the Lincoln Navigator.
