Fuel pump shut-off switch: In the event of an accident thesafety sw itch w illautom atically cut off the fuel sup ply to the

BREAKING-IN YOUR VEHICLE
Your vehicle does not need an extensive break-in. Try not to drivecon tinuously at the sam e speed for the first 1,000 m iles (1,600 km ) ofnew vehicle operation.Vary your speed frequently in order to give the
m oving parts a chan ce to break in.D rive your new vehicle at least 500 m iles (800 km ) before tow ing atrailer.F or m ore d etailed inform ation abou t tow ing a trailer,refer toT r a i l e r to w i n g in the Tires, Wheels and Loading chapter.

Check engine: T he Check En gin eindicator ligh t illum inates w hen theign ition is first turned to the O Nposition to check the bulb.Solidillum ination after the en gine is started indicates the O n B oardD iagnostics System (O B D -II) has detected a m alfunction.R efer toOnboard diagnostics (OBD-II) in the Main tenan ce and Specif icationschapter.If the light is blinking, engine m isfire is occurring w hich could
dam age your catalytic con verter.D rive in a m od erate fashion (avoidheavy acceleration and deceleration) and have you r vehicle servicedim m ediately by your authorized dealer.

To reset the oilm on itoring system to 100% after each oilchange[approxim ately 5,000 m iles (8,000 km ) or 180 days] perform thefollow ing:

Radio reception factors:
T here are three factors that can affect radio recep tion:
D istance/strength:T he further you travel from an F M station,thew eaker the signaland the w eaker the reception.
Terrain:H ills,m ou ntains,tallbuildings, pow er lines, electric fen ces,
traffic ligh ts and thunderstorm s can interfere w ith your recep tion . Station overload:W hen you pass a broadcast tow er,a stronger signal
m ay overtake a w eaker on e and play w hile the w eak station frequ encyis displayed .
CD/CD player care
D o:
H and le discs by their edges only.N ever tou ch the playing surface.
Inspect discs before playing. C lean only w ith an app roved C D cleanerand w ipe from the center out.
D ont:
E xpose d iscs to direct sunlight or heat sources for extended periodsof tim e.
C lean using a circular m otion .CD units are designed to play commercially pressed 4.75 in (12cm) audio compact discs only. Due to technical incompatibility,certain recordable and re-recordable compact discs may notfunction correctly when used in Ford CD players. Irregularshaped CDs, CDs with a scratch protection film attached, and CDswith homemade paper (adhesive) labels should not be insertedinto the CD player. The label may peel and cause the CD tobecome jammed. It is recommended that homemade CDs beidentified with permanent felt tip marker rather than adhesivelabels. Ballpoint pens may damage CDs. Playback and format T he D VD player of your Fam ily E ntertainm ent D VD System can only
be used in the playbackm ode. (The D VD player does not offer arecord feature.)
T he system plays standard C D s,D V D s and also plays m ost C D R /W ,D V D R /W ,VC D and M P3 m edia.
Saving MP3 files
Your F am ily E ntertainm ent System supp orts discs con taining up to255 files.D iscs con taining m ore than 255 files w illnot play.
A lw ays save M P 3 files w ith the .m p3 extension .T he player recogn izes anM P 3 file by the .m p3 extension , so M P 3 files saved w ith differentextension s w illnot be played .N ever save a non-M P 3 file w ith the .m p3extension as the file w illnot play properly.
T he player sup ports m ultisession discs.H ow ever,be sure to im p ortthe previous session of the disc before you add new files.If you do notim port the previous session,only the last session w illbe played .
W hen burning a d isc,ensure that you close/finalize the discbefore playback,or the disc m ay not play properly or an errorm essage m ay appear.
Som e C D -R W discs m ay operate inconsistently an d m ay cause an errorm essage to app ear.W e recom m end bu rning M P 3 files on to C D -R discs.
Family Entertainment DVD System protection circuits
High temperature sensor circuit
E xcessively high tem p eratures m ay cause dam age to the D VD player.
W hen the tem perature of the D VD player becom es too hot,the hightem perature sensor circuit stops m achine operation .D V D /C D H O T w illbe displayed on the radio display.
T he D VD player w illrem ain disabled untilit cools to a n orm aloperating tem perature. T he length of tim e for the system to coolw illvary depending on the clim ate and operating conditions.

O nly use the system w hen the vehicle is started for optim alperform ance and to m aintain battery life.

To disable the D V D player rear controls,sim ultaneou sly press the 3and 5 m em ory presets on the radio face.To enable the D VD playerrear controls again,press the 3 and 5 presets sim ultaneou sly.
T he D VD player is only capable of reading the bottom side of a disc.W hen inserting a single sided disc,the label should be up .F or am ulti-sided disc,the desired play side should be dow n w hen the discis inserted into the player.
D VD s are form atted by regions.T his D VD system can only play region1 D V D s (D VD s m anufactured for U .S. and C anada).
This unit is designed to play commercially pressed 4.75 (12 cm)audio compact discs and DVDs only. Due to technicalincompatibility, certain recordable and re-recordable compactdiscs may not function correctly when used in Ford DVD/CD
players. Irregular shaped discs, discs with a scratch protectionfilm attached, and discs with homemade paper (adhesive) labelsshould not be inserted into the player. Inserting a CD/DVD
W ith the ignition O N ,inserting a C D /D V D into the D V D playerautom atically turns O N the F E S and playback should begin im m ediately.
T he cou nter is autom atically reset to 0:00:00 w hen any disc is insertedinto the F E S.
Removing a CD/DVD (while playing)
1. P ress the ST O P/E JE C T control to stop playback if a d isc is playing.
2. P ress the ST O P/E JE C T control again to eject the C D /D VD .
If the C D /D V D is not rem oved w ithin the allotted tim e, the system w illpu llthe C D /D VD back into the system for safety pu rposes.
If the C D /D VD w illnot eject from the system , press and hold the E JEC Tcontrol for approxim ately 2 seconds.T he disc shou ld eject w hether theveh icle ignition is O N or O F F.
Playing an auxiliary device
1. C onn ect the video line from your video device to the YE LLO Wauxiliary input jack.

To program the auto lam p exit tim e delay:
1. Start w ith the ignition in the LO CK position and the headlam p controlin the autolam p position .
2.Tu rn the headlam p sw itch to .
3. Tu rn the ignition sw itch to R U N and then back to L O C K .
4. Turn the headlam p sw itch to the autolam p position.T he headlam p sw illturn on .

PANEL DIMMER CONTROL
U se to adjust the brightness of theinstrum en t panel and allapplicablesw itches in the veh icle duringheadlam p and parklam p operation.
M ove the control to the fullup rightposition,past detent,to turn on theinterior lam ps.
AIMING THE HEADLAMPS
T he head lam p s on your vehicle are properly aim ed at the assem bly plant.If your vehicle has been in an accident the alignm ent of your h eadlam psshould be checked by your authorized dealer.
Vertical aim adjustment
1. P ark the vehicle directly in front of a w allor screen on a level surface,approxim ately 25 feet (7.6 m eters) aw ay.

2. M easure the height of theheadlam p bulb center from thegroun d and m ark an 8 foot (2.4m eter) h orizontal reference line onthe verticalw allor screen at thisheight (a piece of m asking tape w orks w ell).
3. Turn on the low beam head lam ps to illum inate the w allor screen andopen the hood.
To see a clearer light pattern for adjusting, you m ay w ant to block thelight from one headlam p w hile adjusting the other.
4. O n the w allor screen you w illobserve an area of high intensitylight.T he top of the h igh intensityarea shou ld touch the h orizontalreference line, if not,the beam w illneed to be adjusted.
5. Locate the verticaladjuster oneach headlam p .U sing a P hillips #2
screw driver,turn the adjuster eitherclockw ise (to adjust dow n) orcou nterclockw ise (to adjust up).T he horizontaledge of the brighterlight should touch the horizontalreference line.
6. C lose the hood and turn off thelam ps.
