FORCES AND MOVEMENT

FORCES

A force is a push or pull upon an object resulting from the object's interaction with another object. Whenever there is an interaction between two objects, there is a force upon each of the objects. When the interaction ceases, the two objects no longer experience the force. Forces only exist as a result of an interaction.

What is a force?

What can contact forces do?

Contact forces can change the shape of some objects. They can also break them.

Applying force to an object can affect its shape. Depending on the amount of force applied and the material the object is made of.

What is a magnetic force?

Magnets create magnetic forces. They are non-contact forces. Magnets attract objects made of certains metals and make them move without touching them.

• Some minerals are natural magnets, for example, magnetite.• Man-made magnets are made in factories. All magnets have two ends, called the north pole and the south pole.

Magnets attrack metal objects. Opposite poles attract.

Some poles of magnet repel

What is gravity?

Gravity is a non-contact force. It is a force of attraction that pulls all objects towards the center of the earth.

Because of gravity we stay on the groung, everything that goes up come back down and we can´t lift object with a large mass.

The Moon has a smaller mass than the Earth, and that means that it has less gravity, so the force pulling everything down is weaker.
