Weeds on township roadsides are spreadingto adjacent farmland, triggering higher costsfor farmers, whether it be increased herbi-cide applications or increased tillage.

The township suspended its roadside weed

spraying program a few years ago.

The situation is very serious, especially witha weed called European Buckthorn, Rham-nus catharticaL.

European Buckthorn has a competitive ad-vantage compared to native trees andshrubs in because it leafs out before mostplants in the spring.

Weed experts are stressing that they are nottalking about cosmetic use of herbicides,but specifically targeting noxious weeds.

If the township addresses weeds on its property along rural roads, LESSherbi-cide will be used overall.

Nonetheless, many of the pest control products used in roadside weed controlspraying are the VERY SAMEones used in the Modern Professional Lawn CareIndustry .

One expert told GuelphEramosa Counci l that some manufacturers are NOTeven required to put warning on the product labels, because the toxicity levelsare so low.

The herbicides in question are now even SAFERTHANROADSALT.

The program will be started in Spr ing 2011 .

The legislation was implemented despite the fact thatthe PROHIBITED pest control products were still FED-ERALLY LEGAL, SCIENTIFICALLY SAFE, and TOTALLYIRREPLACEABLE.

Moreover, there were serious issues with the OntarioMinister of the Environment, John Gerretsen, who was

responsible for implementing PROHIBITION. Gerret-sen was INDISCREET with his CLOSE PUBLIC ASSO-CIATIONS with RADICAL and SUBVERSIVE LUNATICPROHIBITIONTERRORISTS.
