Master Dominic Godfrey
From July 22, 2011 to Present . . . Where Is Dominic Now?
Dominic Godfrey, the son of Dominic Godfrey, the grandson of Denise Godfrey, and the brother of Aaliyah Page and Monique Godfrey, is a Honor Roll graduate of John Tyler Elementary School in Portsmouth. Dominic received the Principal’s Star and Certificate of Completion for Elementary School. He
enjoyed helping his teachers at school. Now, Dominic is a 7th grade student at Churchland Middle School in Portsmouth.
Dominic plays basketball for the Saint Mark Missionary Church and attends the B.W. Webb 2nd Annual Training Camp. He enjoys playing basketball with his dad and sister, riding his bike, playing games on his phone, and having fun with his best friend, Justin Deloach. Dominic works very hard to achieve in all that he does.
As part of the Youth Ministry at New First Baptist; Dominic attends Sunday School, Youth Bible Study, Vacation Bible School, and sings with the Steelettes Youth Choir. “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that
whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life,” John 3:16 is his favorite scripture and his favorite Christian song, “How Great Is
Our God.”
We know the Lord will continue to bless Dominic as he moves forward learning more and more about God’s goodness. We are thankful for his continued participate with the Youth Ministry and may he be an example to encourage other youth to learn more about the Lord. Our prayers are with him in the upcoming school year and every day. Congratulations to our “Youth in the Spotlight,”
Dominic Godfrey, let his light so shine brightly.

Trusteette Hazel L. Turner
Trusteette Hazel L. Turner and her husband, the late Trustee Robert L. Turner, became members of First Baptist Church, Taylorsville in 1969 (46 years ago).
Trusteette Turner is a native of Suffolk, Virginia and a graduate of Booker T. Washington Suffolk High School.
She and the late Trustee Robert L. Turner were married for over 50 years and the parents of three children: two daughters, Alisa Turner Ballard and LaWanda Turner-Hamlin and one son, Rev. Dr. Marcus E. Turner, Sr. He was born during their time in the old church and carried across the street to the new church now known as New First Baptist Church (Taylorsville) in 1971.
She has nine grandchildren of whom two, Whitney and Walter Ballard, were partly raised by her and the late Trustee Turner; three step-children; three step-grandchildren; and eight step-great grandchildren. Trusteette Turner also has two sons-in-law, the late Walter Ballard, U.S. Army and Gregory Hamlin, Police Officer; one daughter-in-law, Minister Lisa S. Turner, Professor of Nursing; a goddaughter, Jackie Freeman; and a favorite niece and nephew, Frances Amos and Russell Epps.
Her hobbies include making big meals for her family during the holidays with all of their favorites. She enjoys going on church trips, excursions with her Red Hatters, loves shopping, traveling with her daughter, LaWanda, as well as, her many travels to her son's church in Washington, DC. Trusteette Turner has many fond memories of the trips taken by car and train with her late husband. She has a passion for hats; she loves all types, dressy or casual.
She is affectionately known to her close friends as Mrs. T and to her son's church, Beulah Baptist Church, as Mother Turner. Trusteette Turner is famous for her “Lemonade”.
Trusteette Turner is very active in the community. She exercises at Joseph E. Parker Recreational Center and is a member of NAACP, Senior Center of Portsmouth, Red Hat Society for 10 years, American Cancer Society, Paralyzed Veterans of America, and March of Dimes.
During her 46 years of worship and fellowship at New First Baptist Church (Taylorsville), Trusteette Turner has been and continues to be very active in many church ministries. In April 1987, the late Pastor, Rev. Dr. T. Melvin Steele established the Trusteette Ministry (spouses of the Trustees). Trusteette Turner is the only living member of the original Trusteettes. She was appointed by Rev. Dr. Steele to be the first President/Ministry

Leader of the Trusteette Ministry and served in that position for over 25 years. Trusteette Turner was also a member of the former Willing Pulpiteers under the leadership of the late First Lady Elizabeth Steele (serving as the Acting Ministry Leader until the ministry was dissolved) and served as the Treasurer of the Open Door Club, where her late husband served as President. She is an active member of the Senior’s Ministry and has served as Ministry Leader and Vice Ministry Leader.
She has chaired and co-chaired many Women's Day Committees (activities, program, decoration/flowers, and refreshment), Women's Day Fashion Show, Mrs. Taylorsville Pageant, selected soloists and speakers for Women's Day, and worked with the Church Anniversary Banquet Committees. She was the Assistant Chairperson for the First Lady’s Day for the late First Lady Elizabeth Steele. During the Annual Minister Wives Banquet, Trusteette Turner assisted the former first ladies of New First Baptist, the late First Lady Steele and First Lady R. Brown, with the selling of tickets and highly recognized for the many tickets sold.
For many years, Trusteette Turner worked along with the Deaconess Ministry to select candidates to give the welcome on selected Sundays at the 7 AM Service. She has actively participated with Vacation Bible School for over 25 years where she previously served as Refreshment Chair, worked with the Wednesday feeding of the homeless, and a member of the First Pastoral Search Committee. She attends Prayer Service and Bible Study and served as Worship Leader when her assigned Ministry was in the spotlight.
Her favorite scripture is Psalm 46:1-11, “God is our refuge and strength. A very present help in trouble a present help in our refuge . . .” and her favorite song is, “Every Praise is to Our God”.
What she loves about New First Baptist — Trusteette Turner loves her church for their early morning worship service at 7 AM (formerly known as "Dewdrops from Heaven" by the late Rev. Dr. Steele). She loves working and being a part of the Senior’s Ministry were she has been able to work with some very special people that are still here, as well, those that have gone to be with the Lord. She loves working with the Trusteette Ministry and their sisters in Ministry, the Deaconess Ministry. She thoroughly enjoyed to the highest, her trip with her church to the Holy Land Experience in Florida.
Trusteette Turner’s years of service and commitment to this branch of Zion has truly showed her everlasting and steadfast love for the Lord and doing His will. We want to thank Trusteette Turner for her willingness to share her gifts of leadership, commitment, giving of herself, and her love and compassion for others with New First Baptist Church (Taylorsville).
Congratulations to our “Senior in the Spotlight,” Trusteette Hazel L. Turner, may the Lord’s blessings continue to rain down upon you.
