Validating Hardware for a Failover Clustertechnet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc732035(WS.10).aspx
Applies to Windows Server 2008 and Windows Server 2008 R2
In Windows Server 2008 and Windows Server 2008 R2, the way that
clusters are qualified is changing significantly with the introduction of the
cluster validation wizard.
• The cluster validation wizard is a feature that is integrated into failover
clustering in Windows Server 2008 and Windows Server 2008 R2.
• With the cluster validation wizard, you can run a set of focused tests on a
collection of servers that you intend to use as nodes in a cluster.
• This cluster validation process tests the underlying hardware and software
directly, and individually, to obtain an accurate assessment of how well
failover clustering can be supported on a given configuration.

Hyper-V R2 Storage Benefits
Benefits:• Add and remove VHD and pass-through disks to a running VM
― No reboot required
― VHDs and pass-through disksattached to the virtual SCSI controller
VHD
Add a VHD to VolumeVHD
Add Pass-Through DisksVHD
Enables online storage growth
without downtime
Hyper-V R2 Cluster Shared Volumes (CSV)
Overview•CSV provides a single consistent file name space
•All Windows Server 2008 R2 Servers see the same CSV storage pool
Benefits•Easy Setup; Uses NTFS
•No reformatting SAN’s
•Create one big data store
•No more drive letter problems
•Existing tools just work
•Microsoft recommends for Live Migration scenarios
NOTE: Hitachi does not support CSV with Hitachi Storage Clusters P-VOL and S-VOL synchronized replication pairs. Hitachi replication requires unique ID’s for all P-VOL and S-VOL relationships which is eliminated by Cluster Shared Volumes.

I/O Queue Depths•Multiple virtual machines accessing same CSV impact storage performance
•Not recommended for workloads such as Exchange, SQL or SharePoint
Concerns•Simultaneous access
•I/O buffering
•Prioritization
•I/O saturation
•Best practices
•Large deployments
