Marine litter and the impact it has on wildlife is constantly in the news at the moment The Heritage Coast Partnership carry out beach cleans along the coast and also work with community groups and schools to raise awareness of the problem of marine debris

Our Heritage Coast comprises over 14 kilometres of the natural undeveloped and restored sections of coastline of East Durham and South Sunderland The definition of Heritage Coast covers some of the most beautiful coastline of England and Wales and forms part of the family of protected landscapes that includes National Parks and Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty We work to protect and enhance this magical coastline

The Heritage Coast Partnership consists of Durham County Council City of Sunderland Natural England Environment Agency National Trust Northumbrian Water Durham Wildlife Trust Groundwork Hartlepool Borough Council and Seaham Town Council with community representation from Ryhope Community Association and the Regeneration Partnerships of Easington Colliery Horden and Blackhall

Not for Softies River to River WalkOrganised by North East Sport this walk is approximately 25 miles along the coast from the Wear to the Tees Itrsquos tough going so not for the faint hearted Booking is essential and through North East Sportcoukcoastwalk Over 18rsquos only The walk will take up to 8 hours including a lunch break (donrsquot forget to bring a packed lunch with you and plenty of water) This is a free event with the return journey by bus from HartlepoolMeeting point is at the rear of the Sunderland Echo 24 Building (on the River Wear side) SR1 1XH
