GRASSROOTSHOW TO RUN FOR STATE BOARD OF DIRECTORSThe state board of directors is comprised of seven members, one from each of the seven districts that

make up the structure of the state organization. Board members serve two-year terms. Even numbered districts elect directors in even numbered years, and odd numbered districts in odd numbered years. The president and vice president are elected annually.

Any current regular pay member (active or retired farmer or rancher) can run for a seat on the state board of directors. There are two exceptions, however:

• NDFU employees (those employed after June 30 preceding the annual convention, except in the eventofvacancyoccurringintheofficeofpresidentorvicepresident).

• Members who are associated with any business activity in the capacity of director, manager, agentoremployeewhichisindirectcompetitionwithFarmersUnionaffiliated businesses as outlined in the bylaws, unless that member resigns such position upon election as a director.

If you want to run for a position on the state board, you have an opportunity to announce your candidacy in the Union Farmer, but it is not required. Typically, candidates attend county conventions to promote themselves. They campaign at the state convention and address delegates in their district caucus or caucuses at the state convention, depending upon the position they are seeking.
