IL LIO N S o f men and women are fully conscious

that life tomorrow may never be the same. Theytremulously wait for events to shape themselves. Thepresent darkness of confusion and uncertainty stiflestheir self-confidence and grip s their reason. Th e worldis rapidly approaching a tremendous transition in itsreligious, social, and political order. T o most persons, living—its customs and conventions—is something inwhich they just participate. Th ey resign themselves tothe course it has taken—in that attitude lies disaster. They must be made to realize that the salvation of tomorrow lies not in the victory or absolute defeat of na

tions—but in man s n ay o f thinking. They must be shownthe folly of mortgaging their individualism and idealismfor a temporary freedom from responsibility. Th ey mustnot gamble a dependable future of their own making  for transient years of pleasure. All but the things ofnature are the product of man—what he can do, he canundo. But many have forgotten, or do not know, howthis lies within their power. It is our bounden duty asRosicruc ians to enlighten our fellows. T o what extent,no matter how great or small, we have gleaned truths

from the teachings which have given us  pe ace of mind  and  power of acco mplishm en t , to that degree must wehelp others. W hatever the morsel you have found inthe Rosicrucian principles that has been soul-satisfying,

guide others to enjoy that much as well.

It is my pleat   therefore, that each frater and soror ofAMORC make an unusual, not casual, effort at this time

to bring one or more men or women into the folds ofthe Rosicrucian Orde r. In divers ways, you and others

have been led to the threshold. You rs is now the obli

gation, not alone for AM O RC , but for the future ofmankind, to bring others into the light. Th ere is noapology for this plea. It is a call to a crusade   for in

creased membership   and the consequent dissemination of

Rosicrucian doctrines throughout the world. Let your  light shine forth.  Attract candidates to our cause by

spoken word, by deed, by effort and enterprise. Con scientiously put into effect the following suggestions of

the Grand Lodge for obtaining new fellow members.

P L A N O N E

Removing Confusion and Fears

Answer a perplexing question for another. Give someone

a solution to a troublesome problem and you will have won

his respect and admiration. Yo u may talk by the hour aboutRosicrucianism without avail, but once you successfully apply

the principles or teachings to another’s needs, you have his

sincere interest. To day many intelligent people are wonder*

ing how in our age such a devastating human enterprise as

war can exist. Th ey feel reluctant to plan for the future,

to raise families, with such imp ending risks. Give them a

copy of the December, 1940, issue of the Rosicrucian Digest.

Ha ve them read the article in it. entitled “W hy W ar.” It

will do much to explain circumstances and how to prepare

for a new era.

Those who have just lost a loved one, and who are deeply

grieved, and who have not found complete solace in their

religion should be directed to read the article, “ I Fea r No

Death,” appearing in the October, 1939, Rosicrucian Digest.

It has often been said that we must be ready in consciousness

to receive the higher truths of the Cosmic law. When persons

are brought face to face with the realities of existence, they

are then ready. Give them approp riate articles to read.

Follow up their interests with personal chats and other litera

ture. If you do not have these copies, they may be had at

cost, or ten cents each. A Iso write for the list of other D igest  articles,  to give to people to read in time of sorrow, in per

sonal trouble, in health or financial difficulties. Use these

articles now   to help arouse the needed   interest!

Informal Gatherings

You cannot talk to people about the serious things of life

while on the run. You and they must be fully at ease. Your

minds must be free from the details that ordinarily engage

or distract them. If you know two or three people who seem

desirous of giving thought to self and to metaphysical topics,

invite them for an evening at your home— even if they do

not know each other. Start the conversation with a Ro si

crucian or mystical principle, upon which you are informed.

Be prepared to quote, not from a monograph but from a

copy of the Rosicrucian Digest or the Forum, to substantiate

your point of view. Allow the others to expre ss themselves

freely. Add to the conversation from your store of R osicru

cian knowledge—quote from the Rosicrucian Manu al. Make

the evening conversational—but do not m ake yourself a

lecturer. Be prepared to give literature— a “S ecret Heritage”

or even a membership application, to those particularly interested. Stress that Rosicru cianism is always concerned with

such useful, fascina ting knowledge. Arra nge for a future

Speaking to Groups

Everyone has some affiliations. Besides being members

of A M OR C, each of us is associated with either a business

man’s service club, a music, drama, art, science, or study

society. Ma ny are church members, or affiliated with such

esteemed orders as the Oddfellows, Elks, Eagles, Masons,

and Gran ge. Frequently you are called upon to lead a dis

cussion or to give a little talk. Make that address center

around Rosicrucianism.  It can be made interesting to your

listeners. Yo u can read or otherwise give a discussion on

some principle of living, or some topic of knowledge taught

by the Order, and mention the Rosicrucians in connection

with it. Yo ur listeners will eventually ask you for more de

tails, then direct their interest to AM O RC .  If you do notfeel capable of giving such a talk, perhaps you have a friend

(even if not a membe r) who could. W e will send a list of

available free discourses— if you state that arrangements

will be made to deliver one. Try th is practical plan of

adding worthy minds to our fold.

Special Helps

Most of you business men— and some sorores—have the

opportunity of enclosing a little leaflet with statements or

bills mailed monthly— which would not add to the postage.

Why not enclose an AM O RC folder— whatever one you

wish? A quan tity of these will be sent to you free, upon re

quest. We have a little folder concerning the advantages of

Democracy   and the American way of living— also men

tioning AM O RC — which would be excellent material to

circulate in your commun ity. Wh y not put a supply in the

reception room, or employees’ gathering place, in any new

defense project plants or factories in your community? If

your concern, or place of business, issues a little house jo urn al ( a m ag az in e fo r em pl oy ee s) see if you can co n

tribute some small article to it, quoting from some “ Rosi-

crucian Digest” article, and mentioning   the Order. If you

have ways and means of bringing the Order to the atten

tion of people, not suggested by the Grand Lodge, tell us

about them so that we may pass them on to other members.

Begin today — in a dignified way—to make people aroun d you

Rosicrucian conscious.

"A s the branches o f a tree return their sap to the root ,from a hence it rose; as a river poureth its streams to the

sea, whence its spring was supplied; so the heart of a

f l d li h h i i b fi i d "

9 tt A p M A e cia tU mAs one of the fratres of the Grand Lodge staff very

effectively said, “ By tradition and loyalty,  we are bound

not alone to advance ourselves in Rosicrucian knowledge,

but the Order itself, from which we receive many bene

fits.” T o show our appreciation o f the special effort you

will put forth at this time in having new members cross

the threshold, we will, as a meritorious award , conferupon you the following privileges:

A. Th e frater or soror who obtains the greatest number

of new   members (over five) between March 1, 1941,

and June 1, 1941, will receive a free tuition   at the Rose *

Croix University,  for the three-weeks’ summer term of

this year or of next year. Th e member will, of course,

have to take the brief matriculation course in advance,

but for this, likewise, there will be no cost.

B. Each frater and soror—no matter how many there are—

who brings eight new members into the Order, between

March 1, 1941, and June 1, 1941, will receive the choice

of any ten books   of the Rosicrucian Library— those

published by AM O RC — without cost and with postage

paid.

So that there may be no misunderstanding, the follow

ing rules must be observed. Even if you obtain  just one

new worthy member, that in itself is most beneficial.

Think, if each one will do likewise, what it will mean.

1. New members obtained before March 1, 1941, cannot

be credited to this crusade.

2 . Y OU R N AM E M US T APP EAR beneath the word

“ source,” on the back of each membership application

submitted, in order for you receive credit.

3. Sen d each applicatio n, with full fee, to the Gra nd Lod ge,as soon as received.
