Life Reflections

Helen Marie Lampkin Garmon, (affectionately called “Wee” by her siblings), was

born April 2, 1947 in Tuskegee (Macon County), Alabama. She was the second of seven

children born to the late Simon Lampkin, Jr. and Tempie Cole Lampkin. In 1965, Helen

graduated from Tuskegee Institute High School and relocated to Syracuse, New York to

attend nursing school. After completing her studies, she was employed as a rehabilitation

nurse—always attentive and loving to those in her care.

In 1966, Helen gave birth to her first child, a son, Myron Lampkin and on

December 23, 1972, married the love of her life, Melvin Garmon. To this blessed union,

two daughters, Sonya and La’Tosha were born. Although Helen was a dedicated nurse,

in 1978, she decided to leave her career to become a full-time mother and homemaker.

After rearing her children, Helen rejoined the medical field, continuing to work as a

nurse’s assistant as well as obtaining a degree as a physical therapist. For many years,

Helen sacrificed her physical self to care for others; she finally retired in 2006.

In addition to her loving parents and devoted husband, Helen was preceded in

death by eldest brother, Alfred Julius Lampkin.

Loving memories of Helen Marie Lampkin Garmon will always and forever be

cherished by: son, Myron (Harlan); daughters, Sonya and La’Tosha (Josh); sisters,

Annie (Donald) and Carol (Alan); brothers, Ronald (Tangie), Donald (Melinda) and

Kenneth (Esta); grandchildren, Gabby, Cedric, Aquiles, Marlon, and Mia; aunt, Lillian;

and a host of niecies, nephews, other relatives and dear friends.

“Mama” Thank you for giving us life and teaching

us right from wrong. Thank you for showing us we are all human and make mistakes. Thank you for

teaching us love comes in many forms and is worth fighting for.

The most valuable gift you ever gave all your children was your smile. Though not often, each one of us

always loved to see you and make you smile.

Mama, until we see you again, we miss you, love you and

pray you’re smiling in Heaven!

Myron, Sonya and La’Tosha

“Grandma”

Thanks to you Grandma for showing us that not all heroes wear capes. It was your

unconditional love and compassionate nature that shaped us all into who we are today. We hope to carry all the lessons learned

from you onto our paths to success and make you proud.

We love you, forever and always. Rest in peace until we see each other again.

Gabby, Cedric, Aquiles, Marlon and Mia

My Dear Sister,

I will always remember the last time I saw you. The kiss that you gave me is forever etched in my mind. When we talked on the phone, you always ended with “I love you”. I loved you back! Rest in peace.

Heaven has gained another angel.

Always, Carol (Lane)

God looked around his garden and found an empty place.

He then looked down upon the earth, and saw your tired face.

He put His arms around you

and lifted you to rest. God’s garden must be beautiful,

He always takes the best.

He knew that you were suffering, He knew that you were in pain. He knew that you would never

get well on earth again.

He saw the road was getting rough and the hills were hard to climb. So He closed your weary eyelids and whispered “Peace be thine.”

It broke our hearts to lose you

but you did not go alone… For part of us went with you the day God called you home.

Your Loving Brother,

Donald (Donnie)

My Beautiful and Sweet Sister,

I will always remember our long phone conversations just talking about OLD TIMES. Sleep on and take your rest.

I will see you soon!

With Love, Annie (Bea)

God saw the road was getting rough, the hills were hard to climb.

He gently closed your loving eyes and whispered,

“Peace be thine”.

The weary house and days of pain, the sleepless nights are passed.

The ever-present worn-out frame has found sweet rest at last!
