Assalamu’alaikum Wr. Wb.
Dear our Zakat comrade. Energy has been a topic of
discussion in our country and global. According to
experts, our earth is getting old. Therefore, it is time
to have many renewal energy alternatives.
I will not discuss more about this energy since I am
not the expert. However, there is one thing I believe
in Rumah Zakat, that is your sincere intention to
share through charity; zakah, infaq, and sadaqah
can also be considered as an energy. What kind of
energy? It is an energy that can give happiness to
beneficiaries (recipient’s charity) through various
empowerment programs.
Health, education, economic empowerment, and
environment program have been parts of Rumah
Zakat’s effort in converting the sharing energy into
the real happiness of those who need help. We
also attempt to coordinate this effort in order to
reach Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) that
is released by United Nations and adopted by many
states in the world.
Based on this development purpose and indicator,
Rumah Zakat has empowered 800 villages in 129
cities and districts in Indonesia.
With your trust and synergy, we aim to empower
280 villages more this year.
Energy Renewal
for Indonesia and
the World
This make us realize about how big the role of
sharing energy that people have entrusted to
Rumah Zakat. Therefore, we are going to make sure
that the energy possessed by Rumah Zakat and its
amil zakat is renewable.
Rebranding is one of Rumah Zakat’s effort to energy
renewal. One of them is logo, you will see some
display changes if you look carefully at our logo. The
door’s position is moved to the right, as it has been
exemplified by the prophet whom always uses the
right hand to do every good activities. Moreover, the
word ‘Rumah’ and ‘Zakat’ are strengthen through its
meaning and its visualization.
But, is it only the logo that is changed? Of course
it is not. There are many energy, activity and other
interaction that have been our commitment in
improving the work entrusted to us. Hopefully, the
good energy from muzakki (donator), as well as
prayer and happiness energy from the beneficiaries
(receiver) can be a thrust for Rumah Zakat to remain
grow and develop.
Keep a good work, and may happiness always be
with you. God bless you.
Wassalamu’alaikum.

Thanks to donor’s support so that Rumah Zakat
has opened new branch office in Jayapura in 11
November 2008. It is purposed to help Rumah
Zakat in distributing the charity; zakah, infak and
sadaqah from the donor evenly to the remote areas.
The first empowerment program that is employed
in the earth’s paradise is health, which is positively
responded from various parties included other
religious community leaders.
The existance of Rumah Zakat in Jayapura is
supported by many donator in there. Finally, Rumah
Zakat can distribute Juara (Champion) Scholarship
program to poor children in Jayapura and its
surrounding. “Alhamdulillah, for now, we can still give
contribution as an empowering effort to people in
Jayapura. We get many positive response, either from
the loyal donor and also from community leaders,”
said the branch manager of Rumah Zakat in Jayapura,
Wahyudi.

School will accept 20 students to get a good quality
education for free based on multiple intelligences. It
is just like another 16 Juara Elementary Schools, the
children who have rights to go to Juara Elementary
School are those who come from poor family..
“The purpose of the opening of Juara Elementary
School is to make sure that the children from poor
family can get a good quality education for free.
Alhamdulillah, this Juara School Program gets positive
response from people around the location,” said the
ICD Facilitator of Jayapura for Juara School, Ahmad
Yasir.
Moreover, Yasir hopes that the existance of Juara
Elementary School in Jayapura can help creating a
generation whom subject to Allah’s rules and make
the Quran as their ways of life. Because it will be
easier to accomplish if we start it from an early age.
“Hopefully, this will be good deeds for the donators
whom share some of his property, and for us as the
facilitator of this program,” Said Yasir.
Attaining Knowledge and Friendship
That afternoon, Nur Aisyah and one of her friends was
looked busy cleaning the toilet. That day was their
turn cleaning the toilet in the building used as Rumah
Tahfidz every Sunday to Thursday from 15.30 - 18.30
WIT. Nurul Aisyah is one of Rumah Tahfidz students
who has got Juara Scholarship from Rumah Zakat
since four years ago.
“It’s really fun joining all the activities together with
brother and sister (mentor) in Rumah Zakat. We can
gather together with friends and get knowledge. The
thing that I like most is when our mentor telling the
story of prophets,” said the girl who has just turned
into a teenager. Nur is one of the 30 foster children of
Rumah Zakat in Jayapura who has diligently come to
the mentoring program that is held once a week. Her
dreams is to be a doctor and make her family proud.Must Have Desire to Learn
Another requirements for the scholarship beside
children from a poor family is the children must have
desire to learn and to follow mentoring program
that is held by Rumah Zakat. According to the ICD
Facilitator of Jayapura, Fadli Kastela, this is important to
be done thus Rumah Zakat will not just give material,
but also spiritual education for the foster children.
“In this age, social life of teenagers has become a
concern. We have to fight against the badness and
do many good activities. We hope that the mentoring
program that we have done can at least help them
to be good tenagers for now and the future “ Fadli
said. The teaching material that is given to the foster
children includes reading and writing Quran, religious
lectures, and also skills.
Opening Soon: Juara Elementary School of Jayapura
This year, Headquarters of PLN Lazis cooperates with
Rumah Zakat have built Juara Elementary School in
Jayapura. It is located in Jl. Baru Kotaraja Abepura.
In the school year of 2017/2018, Juara Elementary
Scholarship beneficiaries of Rumah Zakat
The enthusiasm can also be felt by the mentor of
foster children in Rumah Zakat Jayapura. One of them
is Ria Haryati whom at the end of 2016 has become
a mentor for the foster children in Rumah Zakat.
Ria thinks that she enjoys his role as a mentor, even
though she does not have experience as a teacher.
She hopes that the scholarship and mentoring
program can remain continue because the children
are really need that. “I usually teach them reading and
writing Quran, as well as religion knowledge. It is fun
and challenging because not all the children want to
do it. There’s also naughty children, “ she said.

love the Quran more. Because, those who interested
to this program are increasing,” Said Yasir.
It is true that the effort in developing Quranic society
is not an easy task. Especially in a region where the
moslem people are considered as minority. However,
it can be a challenging task for ICD facilitator to
spread goodness through Quran education. “Beside
Geographic factor like the distance of Rumah Tahfidz
that is far from people settlement, the lack of supports
from parents is also be our concern. But, insyaAllah
we will try to maintain that problem, “ Yasin said.
“My way of memorizing Quran is by reading and
listening,” said Syifa when she is asked how she can
quickly memorizing the Quran. The little girl who is
now in the fifth grade in one of the Elementary School
in Jayapura has memorized 30th Juz and now she is
in the middle of finishing the 29th Juz. Syifa who has a
dream to be an architect has targeted to memorize at
least five verse in one day.
“I’m memorizing Al Qolam now. My mom always
check on my recitation everyday,” she said. The same
thing is also stated by Fadil who is in the fifth grade.
The boy who live near the Rumah Tahfidz is very
excited in memorizing the Quran verse with a target
five verse a day.
“But I’m still on the 30th Juz,” Said Fadil while he was
memorizing Abasa at that time. Syifa and Fadil are two
of 17 students in Rumah Tahfidz Juara, a colaboration
program between Valina Hijab and Rumah Zakat.
One Juz in Two Months
Rumah Tahfidz activity that is held every Monday to
Thursday on 15.30 - 18.30 WIT has targeted its student
to memorize one juz in two months. Rumah Tahfidz
Teacher, Ust. Muhammad Naseh Ulwan states that
children are actually very excited to learn. But, still they
need their family to support them to be hafidz and
hafidzah.
“If they can memorize one juz every two months,
thus the children should have two juz recitation by
now. However, most of them have just memorized
one juz. But we should be grateful, because the most
important thing in learning Quran is consistency,”
Stated Ust. Naseh.
Furthermore, Ust. Naseh hopes Rumah Tahfidz that
is initiated by Vanila Hijab and Rumah Zakat can last
longer. Because in developing people who close to
Quran has to be applied in an early age and has to be
done evenly so that children from poor family have
the same opportunity. “Hopefully in the future, we
can open new classes in Rumah Tahfidz. Therefore,
children in Jayapura have bigger opportunity to learn
Quran,” Said Ust. Naseh.

The situation of Tahfidz Juara class
Reading the holy Quran
Since September 2016, Rumah Tahfidz has operated
in Juara Elementary School Jayapura’s building, at
Jl. Baru Kotaraja Abepura to teach and help foster
children of Rumah Zakat in memorizing Quran.
People who interested to this program are increasing
The First Non-formal Tahfidz School
ICD Facilitator of Jayapura, Ahmad Yasir states that at
this time the tahfidz class in Jayapura available only
on the formal school that adjust expensive school fee.
Thus, children from poor family cannot access that
kind of education. That is the reason of why vanila
hijab and Rumah Zakat decided to built free school for
the children whom want to be hafidz and hafidzah in
the earth’s paradise.
“It can be said that Rumah Tahfidz Juara is the only
non-formal tahfidz program in Jayapura. Hopefully, in
the future, we can educate more children so they can

Serve in Kosong Island
According to Fauzi, the visit of Kosong Island has often
been done carry out a mentoring for the chidren. The
volunteers serve in the island because the people have
the difficulty to access the city and there are only few
TPQ teacher in there.
“The mentoring in Kosong Island was stopped
temporarily since we had been busy with our
assignment in campus. Alhamdulillah, we can
continue now and InsyaAllah it will once again be a
routine,” Said Fauzi.
The children and the parents response enthusiastically
about this. In every activities, children are gathered
in the only mosque in that island. “I’m really happy
in learning quran with them (volunteers). I want
to memorize the quran as much as possible,” said
Mustafa, one of the foster children in Kosong Island.
The busy work at university and the limited number
of active volunteers in Jayapura are some of the
constraints that make the activity cannot be fully
conducted. Program that is conducted by volunteers
in Jayapura have not been as various as in the java
island yet, but the volunteer spirit is same as those in
other Indonesia’s region.
“This year we will organize an open recruitment for
new volunteers. Hopefully, by adding some new
volunteer, there will be many activities that can be
established so we can also help many people,” said
Fauzi.
“I want to give benefits to people, That’s all,” Said
Ahmad Fauzi when he is asked the reason of joining
Rumah Zakat as a volunteer in Jayapura. According
to the student of last semester of STAIN Al Fatah,
becoming volunteers make his life as a student never
be the same. “Usually I only think about study and
play, but after I join Rumah Zakat as a volunteer there’s
another thing I must think about,” He said.
Fauzi is one of the volunteers among 59 total
volunteers in Jayapura. He has joined Rumah Zakat
since 2012. At first, He just want to fill his spare time,
but he becomes serious and active in the activity that
he is chosen as a volunteer coordinator of Jayapura
in 2016.
His experience in helping wildfire victims in Jayapura
is one of the consideration. “At that time there’s a
grannie who thank me and hug me while she was
crying, In that moment I promise to dedicate myself
for umat, “ He said.
Becoming volunteer requires strong determination to
stay istiqomah (consistent). It is shown by Fauzi and his
partners in Jayapura. It is like in that morning, when
there is heavy rain in Jayapura, their desire in helping
umat never faded. Fauzi and some of his partners
keep distributing the help to Kayu Pulo Village and
Kosong Island located near Jayapura’s port. The help
consists of Superqurban corned, Quran, and clothes.
Before they lead up to Kosong Island, their boat
will anchored first at Kampung Pulo to distribute
Superqurban. All people in this island are christian but
it does not interfere the friendship between Kampung
Pulo and volunteers of Rumah Zakat.
“This is the first time we distribute Superqurban cornet
in Pulo Kayu village, while in Kosong Island, we have
done it quite often,” Said Bunga, one of the volunteers
whom deliver the distribution.
The Desire of Giving Benefits to
Umat (People)
Superqurban Expedition in Papua
Although Rumah Zakat located in Jayapura, but
through Superqurban expedition program, the
benefits can be attained by People outside Jayapura.
8000 Superqurban cornet can be distributed to West
Papua through NKRI expedition last year.
Beside NKRI expedition, Fauzi and his partners also
carry out Superqurban expedition to Sarmi District.
The distance between the distribution area and
Jayapura is around 400 km with 8 hours ride through
rough terrain. “At that time, we distribute 1000
superqurban cornets, 500 quran and Iqro, as well as
conduct mass circumcision for 27 moslem children of
Papua in Sarmi,” Said Wahyudi, the Branch Manager of
Rumah Zakat Jayapura.
Wahyudi also states that the distribution is conducted
outside Jayapura since the number of Papua moslem
in Jayapura is very few and most of them have already
been helped.”Hopefully this year, we can also help
moslem papua and those who need us in other
region,” he added.

The Spirit of Memorizing the Quran in PapuaOne of education program that is specialized in ICD region of Jayapura is to memorize Quran. After it was built
in 2008, Rumah Zakat of Jayapura begins to initiate Rumah Tahfidz program that is purposed for poor children
in the far east ICD region of Indonesia. However, the program will not be successful without the spirit of each
mentoring participants. As well as the spirit that has to be spread by ICD facilitator, thus the spirit of memorizing
keep growing in the students. The following are the sample stories of children who study and memorize Quran
in Jayapura.
His desire to educate children in Papua has
brought Mochammad Fadli Kastella joining
Rumah Zakat Jayapura as ICD facilitator of
Education program. “It’s like a destiny call.
It has been my obligation to improve the
quality of education for the children in Papua,
especially in Jayapura since I come from that
city,” he said.
His duty as ICD facilitator is not only
distributing the help from donor to the foster
children, but also to monitor the program to
be successful and to make sure that many
children in Jayapura can get education
through scholarship and mentoring “I hope
this scholarship program can reach not only
in the Jayapura, but also in regions of Papua
inland,” said Fadly.
There are 47 children who receive the
scholarship each month, and five of them
have followed Rumah Tahfidz program.
Rumah Tahfidz program that is initiated
by Vanila Hijab and Rumah Zakat not only
trigered the spirit of the foster children in
memorizing Quran, but Fadli as a facilitator
is also motivated to be closer to the Quran.
Because the existance of the program, He
admits that he begins to concern in adding
and strengthening his Quran memorization.
“I am always trying to repeat my recitation in
my sunnah pray, and reported once a week
to my mentor,” he said. It is the same as the
student of Juara School, Fadli has targeted
at least memorizing five verse a day. “So that
we can memorized Quran together. Beside,
I want to be a good father for my family
and be close to Allah through the Quran
recitation,” Fadli added.
Syifa Faizati Zahra
Having a Hobby of Memorizing Quran
“I like memorizing Quran,” said Syifa Faizati Zahra when she is asked
about her hobby. Syifa is fifth grade student in Jayapura. She has
actively followed the tahfidz class that is held by Rumah Zakat
Jayapura since last year.
The tahfidz class is now attended by 15 children whom get
scholarship, and it is only Syifa who has memorized the 30th
Juz. “I’m memorizing 29th Juz right now, I’ve just reached
Al Qalam verse,” She said. Among the students of her
age, Syifa has the highest spirit in memorizing Quran.
It can be seen in her consistency to keep fixing,
repeating and adding her Quran memorization.
One of the effective way in memorizing according to
Syifa is by read it over and over again. “If we read the quran over
and over again we don’t need to memorize, we will automatically
memorized it,” she said. This little girl also explains that one of the most
efective way in murajaah (memorizing) is by reporting the recitation
to her mother.
Besides a hobby, the biggest motivation of the first born child in
memorizing the Quran is the desire to give crown of dignity for her
parents in the after life. It is a form of devotion for her parents whom
have raised her until now.
Syifa’s achievement is not only in memorizing Quran. She also gets
many good scores in some subjects in her school. It can be a good
start for her to accomplish her dream to be the best architect in
Indonesia. “My dream is to be hafidz architect. So I can built a beautiful
house for my father and mother,” She said.

The Desire to Educate Children of Papua
17RZ Magz - Rajab 1438 |16 | RZ Magz - April 2017
“I wanna be a Kiai (scholars)” said Adam, 9 years old
child of Papua who is the youngest student in Al
Payage Boarding School. While, Rahman and Iqbal
who are almost in the same age as Adam, each wants
to be a soldier and a cop. “Hafidz soldier and hafidz
cop,” both said.
The Boarding School that is built by Ust. Syaiful
Islam Al Payage, MUI Chairman of Papua Province
is specialized to educate moslem children of Papua
origin. Having a life in Wamena island make these
children can hardly interact with outside world, as
well as to study religion (islam).
Da’i Candidates of Wamena Inland
This is the reason why Ust. Syaiful Islam finally
decided to invite Adam, Iqbal, Rahman and other
three children to have an islamic education in Al
Payage Boarding School.
The acquaintanceship of Rumah Zakat with Al
Payage Boarding School began last year, according
to Branch Manager of Rumah Zakat, Wahyudi, the
beginning of friendship with the boarding school
happens during the distribution of Superqurban.
“Alhamdulillah, the friendship lasts until now.
Although, all those three have not been a Foster
care of Rumah Zakat yet, but insyaallah we are
ready to help if it is needed, “said wahyudi.
All students of Al Payage Boarding School
originated from the environment that
far from islam, thus character building
and corrective moral education are
priority. “Parents are allowed to visit,
but they are not allowed to bring
their children home before the
education is finished. That is the
requirement from ustadz,” said
Fadli, Jayapura ICD Facilitator.
Adam, Iqbal, and Rahman are
the depiction of Papua inland
children who have high spirit in
studying Islam. Although, they
have to live away from their
parents and family, they remained
at Jayapura alongside with their
Ustadz to fully understand the
Quran.
