Did you know?

Council’s Revenue

Living in the highest rainfall region in Australia (3,000mm or more per year) comes at a significant cost - with more damage to roads, more rapid deterioration of facilities, more frequent mowing cycles, more expensive sewerage systems designed to cope with increased groundwater infiltration as well as more wear and tear on those systems, the need for a higher standard of drainage systems to cope with heavy rainfall... the list goes on. All that rainfall also makes us the bridge capital of Australia with 164 (1 bridge for every 7km of road), compared to 40-50 in neighbouring areas.

Rateable PropertiesThe smaller the rate base, the more you pay for services and infrastructure.

AreaThe larger and more sparsely populated the area, the more demand for infrastructure and services with less people to pay for it.

Population DensityOur rate base is smaller when compared to other Councils, which is why we pay more for services and infrastructure.

Did you know? Council offers a 15% discount on the general rates, if all rates and charges are paid in full by the due date.
