Dear College Dance Educator,

The summer months provide a vital time for students to build upon their university training and grow as

artists. Regional Dance America’s National Choreography Intensive offers one of the very few programs in the world that trains and inspires the choreographers of tomorrow. Luminaries from the professional dance

world have led this program since 1961.

Building upon a rich history, the 2018 National Choreography Intensive provides dancers, emerging

choreographers, and seasoned choreographers the unparalleled opportunity to work, study, and

create under the guidance of internationally esteemed professionals. Janis Brenner (Choreographic and

Music Mentor & Choreography Instructor at The Juilliard School) and Jerome Begin (Music Advisor at The

Juilliard School) are the Directors of Choreography and Music for the 2018 intensive. With their mentorship,

choreographers experience technique classes, choreography sessions, afternoons spent creating new

works, nightly showings, and feedback discussions as dancers immerse themselves in new works.

The National Choreography Intensive offers students a once in a lifetime opportunity to experience the world of professional dance and choreography. Your choreographers and dancers will be talented additions to

the 2018 National Choreography Intensive, and I do hope you will encourage them to apply. If there are any

questions I may answer, please email [email protected].

For the love of dance,

Erika Davis, CEO

For the most valuable experience at the National

Choreography Intensive, choreographers may

follow one of two tracks. The Project Tier Track

is for more established choreographers, who will

create a more fully developed work throughout the

intensive. Choreographers set a work-in-progress

on dancers, and this work is presented at evening

showings and is given feedback over the course

of the intensive. The Emerging Track is for young

and upcoming choreographers, to whom the

Directors of Choreography and Music provide

exciting new choreographic assignments for these

choreographers to grow in their craft.

Work, study, and create all in one intensive! The

Dancer Track is for dancers who wish to hone in

on the art of learning choreography. The National

Choreography Intensive offers the one-of-a-kind experience and vital training ground to work within

a variety of styles and train with some of the best

teachers in the world. Expand your technique with

daily classes in Ballet, Modern, Jazz, Pointe, African,

or Men’s Classes. Interested in choreographing too?

The Dancer/Choreographer Track operates during the

first week, allowing dancers to participate in choreog-

raphy workshops and create new works, while also

participatng as a dancer in the intensive.

For intermediate to advanced students to

apply for admission, please email a letter of

Regional Dance America (RDA) was founded

in 1987 to promote the artistic development

of dance companies throughout the United

States. RDA provides a national identity and

support for its five regional associations; MidStates, Northeast, Pacific, Southeast and Southwest. RDA’s regional associations

were established under the guidance of the

National Association for Regional Ballet (NARB)

years before. Over three hundred companies,

including more than two-dozen nationally

recognized professional groups have been

NARB or RDA member companies. RDA’s

mission is to advance and foster the growth

and education of dancers, choreographers,

directors and dance companies in every

community across the U.S. and Canada.

Development of member companies is further

promoted through regional and national festivals

by affirming standards of appraisal, evaluation, and performance to which all members are

held. RDA’s National Choreography Intensive

supports the creation of new works annually by

providing a vital platform for choreographers

and dancers to create inspired and diverse

work within a variety of dance styles. For
