Top Story - The Robert Morris University football team finally finishes its three-game road trip this Saturday, Sept. 20, as it heads west for an annual meeting with non-conference nemesis Dayton at Welcome Stadium at 1:00 p.m. The Colonials are still seeking their first win of the season after dropping a decision to Lafayette the last time out. The Colonials hurt themselves early with turnovers against the Leopards and could not recover. Antwan Eddie, a preseason All-NEC selection at cornerback, provided RMU with a positive as he intercepted the Leopards twice within three pass attempts. Senior Duane Mitchell needs only three receiving yards to move into fourth and 63 yards to move into third in all-time receiving at Robert Morris. Through three games of the 2014 season, RMU has seen 19 student-athletes earn their first-career start under first-year head coach John Banaszak. After finishing its road trip, Robert Morris will enjoy its first bye of the campaign before returning home for its final non-conference game of the season as its hosts Monmouth as part of the University’s Homecoming festivities. Quick Stat of the Afternoon - Robert Morris has struggled in the early going as the Colonials have suffered a trio of defeats to open the campaign. However, if recent history is an indication, Colonial fans could be in for a thrilling finish this week. Each of the past two times that RMU has started 0-3, Robert Morris has come up with an exciting victory to turn the tide in its next game. In the 2011 season, Robert Morris fell behind Monmouth during the third quarter but would respond. Jeff Sinclair (2009-12) led a nine-play, 79-yard drive in the latter half of the fourth quarter, finishing with a 21-yard touchdown strike. Just one year later, Robert Morris hosted Lafayette on Homecoming looking for its first win of the season. The Colonials jumped out to a three-touchdown lead at the half only to see the Leopards battle back and tie the game. RMU won the game with a Greg Langer (2009-12) field goal in the final minute after a 67-yard drive. Saturday's Opponent - RMU continues its longest running rivalry with a non-conference oppo- nent when it faces Dayton. RMU will meet the Flyers for the 17th time with Dayton holding a 14-2 (.875) advantage and carrying an 11-game winning streak in the all-time series. In last year’s meeting at Joe Walton Stadium (9/13/14), the squads were tied, 7-7, at the end of the third quar- ter before Dayton found the end zone twice in the final stanza. RMU scored late on a pass to Duane Mitchell but could not recover an onside kick. For more information on the all-time series against Dayton, including the last game recap, please see page four of today’s game notes. On This Date (Sept. 20) in Robert Morris Football History - Robert Morris has played a trio of times previously on September 20, but it has only come away with one victory. Coincidentally, two of the three prior games on this date came against Dayton, RMU’s opponent this week. Robert Morris’ lone win on this date came in 2003 when RMU made its only trip in program his- tory to St. Peter’s. Robert Morris used two defensive touchdowns in the first quarter to jump out to an early lead but the Peacocks responded to even the game, 17-17, by the half. The Colonials would use a 12-play drive and a nine-play drive to score two touchdowns within five minutes, spanning the third and fourth quarters. St. Peter’s tried to mount a comeback with a late score, but RMU recovered an onside kick attempt with just over a minute left to seal the deal. Sam Dorsett (1999-2003) led RMU with 103 rushing yards as the Colonials tallied 206 total on the ground. Babafemi Odumeru (2003-04) and Mike Niklos (2003-07) returned turnovers for TD’s.

RMU won the game with a Greg Langer (2009-12) field goal in the final minute after a 67-yard drive.

Saturday's Opponent - RMU continues its longest running rivalry with a non-conference oppo-nent when it faces Dayton. RMU will meet the Flyers for the 17th time with Dayton holding a 14-2 (.875) advantage and carrying an 11-game winning streak in the all-time series. In last year’s meeting at Joe Walton Stadium (9/13/14), the squads were tied, 7-7, at the end of the third quar-ter before Dayton found the end zone twice in the final stanza. RMU scored late on a pass to Duane Mitchell but could not recover an onside kick. On This Date (Sept. 20) in Robert Morris Football History - Robert Morris has played a trio of times previously on September 20, but it has only come away with one victory. Head Coach John BanaszakFirst Season - Eastern Michigan ’75

John Banaszak became the second head football coach in Robert Morris University history in December 2013. He served as an assistant coach and assistant head coach for the Colonials for 11 consecutive years prior to taking over the top spot. Banaszak was selected as Coach-In-Waiting in January 2012, allowing for a simple transition following the 2013 campaign. At the end of the 2013 season, he was named as the Assistant Coach of the Year at the FCS level as selected by the American Football Coaches Association. He was one of five coaches selected for dedication to their teams and communities. He was the first RMU coach, as well as the first from the NEC, to claim this honor. The 2013 season was Banaszak's sixth as assistant head coach for Robert Morris. Among his numerous

duties with the program, he was responsible for tutoring the defensive line and the special teams unit. Under Banaszak's guidance in 2013, Robert Morris led the NEC in net punting, punt return defense and punt return average. Banaszak was also a key component in instructing a RMU defense that finished second in the NEC in total defense within league play in 2013. Robert Morris finished its regular season ranked among the top 25 nationally in at least seven defensive categories including total defense. With Banaszak's assistance, RMU has led the NEC in total defense four times in the past 10 years and ranked among the top four nine times in the past 11 seasons. Banaszak was a key component to a 2010 defense that led the NEC in total defense as the Colonials claimed the NEC's inaugural berth in the FCS Playoffs. In 2006, he helped tutor an RMU defense that led I-AA in total defense, allowing an average of just 228.36 yards per game. 10 of the 13 players in school history to earn All-NEC recognition on the defensive line have come under the tutelage of Banaszak, including Nolan Nearhoof (2009-12), who was named the 2012 NEC Defensive Player of the Year after breaking both the school and league records for career sacks. Nearhoof would go on to earn All-America honors, becoming the third Colonial defensive lineman to claim an All-America nod under Banaszak in a seven-year span. As much as Banaszak's presence has been felt on the defensive side of the ball, the same can be said on special teams. He has helped five distinct Colonials win an award at return specialist within the past decade. A graduate of Eastern Michigan, Banaszak signed as a free agent with the Pittsburgh Steelers prior to the 1975 season and was one of only three rookies to make the defending Super Bowl champion team out of training camp. Primarily a special teams player on Pittsburgh's Super Bowl X championship team, Banaszak started five games the following season and then started at both right end and inside tackle in 1977 before suffering a knee injury that forced him to the injured reserve list. Between 1978 and 1980, Banaszak started 45 regular-season games at defensive end as the Steelers won back-to-back Super Bowls. In Super Bowl XIII, Banaszak recorded six tackles, including a pair of sacks, and a fumble recovery in a 35-31 win over the Dallas Cowboys, which garnered him Defensive Player of the Game honors. The following year, Banaszak helped the Steelers to a 31-19 victory over the Rams.

Game #3Dayton 21, Robert Morris 14September 14, 2013 / Moon Township, Pa.

Joe Walton Stadium (Attendance: 1,625) - A 75-yard touchdown drive late in the fourth quarter gave Robert Morris a chance to even the score, but the Colonials could not complete the come-back as Dayton topped RMU, 21-14, in non-conference action. Redshirt senior Mike Cook nearly matched a single-game school record as he posted a career-high 19 tackles. Redshirt senior Kyle Cooper tied his career high of 12 tackles. Dayton, who has won seven of its last nine overall, received the opening kickoff and drove into Colonial territory. RMU appeared to have stopped the Flyers, but a penalty extended the drive and continued Dayton's momentum. On the very next play, the Flyers struck first with a 22-yard touchdown pass. Each of the game's next three drives did not amount to significant yardage and resulted in punts. However, on the final one of those punts, the deep man for the Flyers muffed the catch. Junior Mike Stojkovic was all over it and jumped on the loose pigskin. On the second play of the drive, junior Paul Jones hit senior D.J. Pearson in the back left cor-ner of the end zone for a 16-yard TD. The teams combined for just 34 yards on each of the next four drives, and all of them resulted in a punt. Dayton then went on a sustained drive, but the Colonials kept them from getting points despite reaching the red zone. Facing a fourth-and-one from the 5-yard line, the Flyers elected to go for a field goal, but a poor snap left Dayton looking to throw instead. However, redshirt senior A.J. Holderman batted down the attempted pass to prevent a touchdown, helping send the game to intermission at 7-7. Neither team generated much offensively in the first half of the third quarter. After a Colonial interception, Dayton had a chance to take the lead but missed the field goal. RMU moved 47 yards into Dayton territory on its next drive before a sack killed the momentum and forced a punt, which came on the first play of the fourth quarter. Dayton would take the lead on its next possession, using two long passes, including a 41-yard touchdown strike, to pull ahead, 14-7. What appeared to be a promising return on the ensuing kickoff for RMU soon turned into a nightmare when the ball popped free and the Flyers recovered. Dayton used the short field to double its lead. RMU would drive 75 yards on just five plays late in the period. A 22-yard pass to sophomore Kenny Davis moved the ball near midfield. Four plays later, Jones hit junior Duane Mitchell for a 40-yard touchdown. RMU then tried an onside kick but did not recover it. Cook’s 19 tackles were the most since current assistant coach Alex DiMichele notched 19 in 2010. Junior Hunter Khaleghi made his first collegiate appearance and was 2-for-2 on point after attempts.

Robert Morris Quick FactsLast Time Out - Robert Morris fell behind early and never recovered as it fell to defend-ing Patriot League champion Lafayette … The loss to the Leopards, a team that reached the FCS Playoffs last year, set the all-time series even at 1-1 as RMU claimed a victory two years ago … Senior linebacker Jake Tkach had perhaps the finest performance of his career as he finished with a game-high tying nine tackles. He notched a career-high three tackles for loss and posted his first-career sack … Sophomore Andy Smigiera tied his career high of nine tackles while classmate Sam Woods reset his with seven ... Robert Morris held the Lafayette offense to a 3-for-14 (.214) mark on third down.

Pick City - Robert Morris ranked among the top 15 nationally in interceptions in 2013, and the Colonial defense is off to a strong start in this department with five INT’s in the first three games. RMU has grabbed at least one interception in nine of its past 10 games and multiple picks in six of those contests. In fact, the Robert Morris defense has tallied 18 interceptions in the team’s past eight games.

Ramming Defenses - Rameses Owens was named National Freshman of the Week after breaking multiple school records in the team's road opener at North Dakota. He is believed to be the first Colonial ever to earn Freshman of the Week honors from The Sports Network. Owens had a breakout performance as he racked up a game-high 199 rushing yards while finding the end zone once. The 199 yards represented a new RMU record for single-game rushing yardage by a freshman and is among the top 15 marks ever by a RMU running back. Owens finished the day with 237 all-purpose yards.

Seeing Red - After ranking 19th nationally in red zone defense a year ago, Robert Morris, despite having eight new starters on defense, has displayed positive signs in this area thus far in 2014. RMU has allowed only six touchdowns on its opponents’ 18 trips to the red zone, tied for the best such percentage in the league. In fact, RMU has yielded only two touchdowns on its opponents’ seven drives inside the 10-yard line.

On Target - Duane Mitchell had a breakout campaign as a junior in 2013 as he reset the single-season school record with 52 receptions and notched 867 receiving yards, the second-highest figure in RMU history. What made those stats even more impressive is that RMU faced four of the top 30 passing defenses in the nation a year ago. Mitchell has posted 16 catches in the first three games of 2014. That has moved him into fifth in career receiving yards (1,433) and fourth in receptions (95). On this year’s pace, Mitchell would finish second in both all-time categories at Robert Morris.

No Passing Zone - The Robert Morris pass defense has continued to shine after a strong end to 2013. RMU has allowed only two if its last 10 foes to reach 200 yards passing (and neither passed it by much, tallying 202 and 217). In its last eight games, RMU is holding its opponents to an average of just 153.9 passing yards. Also, four times in this stretch, the Colonials have held the opposing quarterback under a 43% completion rate.

Catch Me If You Can - Antwan Eddie will have a challenge duplicating his 2013 effort as he became the first Colonial to be named an All-American for a performance on special teams. He returned punts for the first time in his career in 2013 and tallied a single-season school record 405 yards on 27 returns. He ranked third in the FCS, averaging 15 yards per return, and broke a school record with an 88-yard return for a TD at VMI. Eddie was honored three times in the NEC's weekly special teams category. He also earned postseason acclaim on defense as he garnered All-NEC honors at cornerback.

Punt It - Tony LaMancusa earned All-NEC honors in 2013 after leading the league in punting. He also helped RMU top the NEC in both net punting and punt return defense. He started off 2014 well as he tied a single-game school record, which he had already achieved once, with four punts downed inside the 20-yard line. LaMancusa has notched 28 punts downed inside the 20 against only four touchbacks in his last 16 games.

Start Me Up - Tony LaMancusa enters Saturday's game with the most consecutive start-ing assignments of all active Colonials as he has served as the punter for 36 straight games. When special teams is excluded, Antwan Eddie and Nick Faraci are tied for the most total starts among active Colonials at 25.

Game #3 • Lafayette 50, Robert Morris 3September 13, 2014 • Easton, Pa.

Fisher Stadium (Attendance: 3,207) - Robert Morris shot itself in the foot early and never recovered as it fell to defending Patriot League champion Lafayette, 50-3, in non-conference action. The loss to the Leopards, a team that participated in the FCS Playoffs last year, set the all-time series even at 1-1 as RMU claimed a victory in the first-ever meeting two years ago. Senior defensive back Antwan Eddie provided one of the bright spots for the Colonials as he grabbed two interceptions from Leopard quarterback Drew Reed who only threw five picks all of last year. Senior linebacker Jake Tkach had perhaps the finest performance of his career as he finished with a game-high tying nine tackles. He notched a career-high three tackles for loss and also posted his first-career sack. The first two drives for both teams went nowhere as they com-bined for just 21 yards with each ending in a punt. A pair of turnovers and a poor snap on a punt attempt by the Colonials gifted Lafayette 16 quick points to open the scoring. After two more punts, the Colonial defense came up with a big stop on fourth down. However, the RMU offense would turn the ball right back over to open the second quarter, and the Leopards turned a pick into a defensive touchdown. Eddie and Robert Morris then turned the tables on Lafayette as he intercepted the Leopards twice within three pass attempts, but RMU was only able to generate three points out of the two takeaways. The RMU defense forced the Leopards into field goal attempts after they had driven into the red zone on their next two drives. Lafayette missed one while junior David Taylor came roaring in from the end of the formation and blocked Lafayette's second field goal try of the night. RMU then moved the ball near midfield before having to punt it away. Lafayette would tack on a field goal as the first half expired. Lafayette continued to extend its lead during the second half while Robert Morris was unable to find a rhythm on offense. True freshman Cole Blake notched 114 all-purpose yards in just his second collegiate game as he ran the ball 11 times and caught a game-high five passes. Despite the setback, senior Duane Mitchell caught a pass for the 25th consecutive game. Sophomore Andy Smigiera tied his career high of nine tackles while classmate Sam Woods reset his with seven.

Last RMU GameTwo Is Better Than One - Senior Antwan Eddie provided one of the bright spots for the Colonials last week as he grabbed two interceptions. He picked off Leopard quarterback Drew Reed who only threw five picks all of last year. In doing so, Eddie collected two interceptions in a game for the second time in his past seven outings. He grabbed two INT against Bryant last year (11/2) when he was matched up against the NEC’s all-time leading receiver. Eddie needs one more pick to move into RMU’s career top 10 in that category.

Five Guys - Even with RMU sporting two new starters on the line, including a redshirt freshman at left tackle, the Colonials are protecting their rookie quarterback well. RMU has only allowed four sacks in its first three games, tied for the lowest such figure in program history. The last time the Colonials allowed only four sacks in their first three games came in 2000.

Any Given Saturday - Before becoming a record-breaking receiver for RMU, Duane Mitchell began his career as a running back in his rookie season. Since moving to receiver, Mitchell has played in 25 games, and he has caught at least one pass in each of those outings. He has caught multiple passes in 15 of the team's past 16 games. The RMU record for consecutive games with a reception is held by tight end Shadrae King (2008-11), who caught a pass in each of the final 30 games he played.

Spread the Love - Robert Morris grabbed 16 interceptions in 2013, its second-highest figure since 1999. What really was noteworthy about RMU's sum was that 11 different Colonials helped produce it, marking the most players to have at least one interception in any RMU season. After two different Colonials grabbed picks in the season opener, 13 distinct Colonials have grabbed at least one interception in the team’s past 10 games.

First Impressions - A number of RMU players have accrued a ‘first’ in the season’s opening three games. A total of 19 Colonials have made their first-career start thus far, 10 on offense and nine on defense. 11 of those 19 had never competed in a collegiate game before 2014. In all, 29 Colonials have made their collegiate debut this season. Luke Brumbaugh became the first redshirt or true freshman to start a season opener at QB for RMU since 1994.

Team Effort - Senior Jake Tkach and sophomore Andy Smigiera topped Robert Morris with nine tackles each last week, both tying their career highs. They became the third and fourth Colonials to lead (or tie for the lead) RMU in tackles for a game in 2014. It marks the third time in the past four years that RMU has had different tackle leaders in each of its first three games.

Time to Buy Stock - The RMU defense was hit hard by graduation losses after last season, but one piece the Colonials are happy to have back is linebacker Mike Stojkovic. Stojkovic, who was hampered by injuries in 2013, transferred to RMU from FBS school North Texas where he started nine games as a true freshman, making 48 tackles. He has had a strong start to 2014 as he has 25 tackles, 5.0 tackles for loss and a fumble recovery through three games.

Pack Your Bags - Although Robert Morris opened at home for just the second time since 2008, Colonials fans are having to wait awhile to see RMU again. The trip to Dayton is the third of three straight weeks on the road for RMU, marking only the second time in school history that RMU has played three road games in three weeks. An added element of intrigue is that two of the three places RMU is visiting, it had never played before in program history.

Block Party - Junior David Taylor came roaring in from the edge to block a Lafayette field goal try last week. It marked the second straight year that Robert Morris blocked an opponent’s field goal try after not getting a hand on one the prior two seasons. Each of the last two blocks were by cornerbacks.

NEC Champions since 1996

Making the Grade - Recently graduated linebacker Kyle Cooper and current senior offensive lineman Nick Faraci were both named Capital One Academic All-District First Team last November. As a result of their first-team selections, both Colonials advanced to the Academic All-America ballot. While this was the first such honor for both Cooper and Faraci, the RMU football program is no stranger to academic successes. These two accolades gave the Colonial program at least one Academic All-District honoree in each of the past 11 seasons, a span in which Robert Morris has taken home 21 overall selec-tions. To put that in perspective, no other NEC school has an active streak of football academic all-district selections longer than two years. Cooper, a sport management major who also earned his Master of Business Administration, had a 3.71 GPA. He had 81 tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss and forced two turnovers in 2013. Faraci, a nursing major, has a sterling 3.92 GPA. He has started 25 consecutive games at center, the most consecutive starts by any active Colonial on offense or defense.

Way to Start – Through three games, RMU’s leading tackler is none other than Nic Lamica, a Colonial seeing his first game action this season. Lamica leads the team in tackles (27) and also tops the squad in solo stops (17). He also has netted 4.0 tackles for loss, an interception and three pass breakups in his first three collegiate appearances.

A New Look Offense - While John Banaszak is only the second head coach in Robert Morris football history, Darrin Hicks is only the second offensive coordinator for the Colonials as former head coach Joe Walton performed the duty for the past 20 years. Hicks was hired in December and brings 17 years of collegiate coaching experience to RMU, including 10 as an offensive coordinator. Hicks’ numerous accomplishments include helping Delta State win games in the Division II Tournament in back-to-back years, including reaching the quarterfinals in 2008. Hicks, an all-conference offensive lineman who helped Washington & Jefferson reach the national championship game as a player, espouses an up-tempo attack.

Same Address - True freshman Cole Blake notched 114 all-purpose yards in last week’s game at Lafayette. Blake was playing in just his second game and actually had yet to touch the ball before last week when he ran the ball 11 times and caught a game-high five passes. Blake went to Moon High School, about one mile away from RMU.

In a NFL Training Camp - RMU assistant coach Myles Russ had a unique opportunity to help the Buffalo Bills' staff and running backs during the National Football League team's training camp in late July. Russ, the running backs coach for the Colonials, was one of three individuals recently selected by the Bills to participate in this year's Bill Walsh Minority Coaching Fellowship program. The Bills ranked second in the NFL in rushing yardage per game (144.2) last season with C.J. Spiller and Fred Jackson leading the way. The Bill Walsh Minority Coaching Fellowship is designed to expose talented minority college coaches to the methods and philosophies of NFL training camps. Russ is in his third season and remains the program’s all-time leading rusher (4,271).

They'll Be Back - One interesting way to examine the youth of the Colonials is to look at the number of players that started their season opener who will be done with their careers after this season. Of RMU’s 22 offensive and defensive starters from its opener, only three Colonials—two on offense, one on defense—will have used all of their NCAA eligibility when the 2014 campaign is completed.

In a NFL Training Camp, Part II - A.J. Dalton, a senior on last year’s RMU team, signed a free-agent contract with the Detroit Lions in May and participated in the team’s train-ing camp. Dalton made 37 starts on the offensive line, playing left tackle for the major-ity of his tenure. He was selected as an All-American in 2013, becoming just the second RMU offensive lineman in school history to earn such an honor.

I'll Have Seconds - Junior David Taylor had quite the performance in his first-career start in the season opener. He notched the first two interceptions of his career and added a career-high 10 tackles. Taylor became the 17th distinct Colonial to have mul-tiple INT in a game, and his effort made 2014 the third straight year that a Colonial has had a multi-interception game.

Farison Elevated to Assistant Head Coach

Robert Morris University head coach John Banaszak announced September 10 that Scott Farison has been promoted to assistant head coach. Farison just started his 13th season on the sidelines for RMU and is the longest-tenured active member of the staff. He is in his eighth season as the defensive coordinator for the Colonials, and he will retain the responsibility for leading the defense in his new role. "Scott's been here for 13 years and absolutely deserves this promotion to assistant head football coach," Banaszak said. "He performs many duties that are not in his job description and is definitely my right-hand man. Promoting him to assistant head coach is certainly the next step in his career." The Colonials have consistently produced quality defenses under Farison's watch, and last year was no exception. In Farison's 11 seasons coaching the defensive side of the ball at RMU, the Colonials have finished among the top 25 nationally in total defense on six occasions, including finishing among the top 11 on four of those occurrences. Robert Morris has led the Northeast Conference in total defense four times in the past 10 years with guidance from Farison. In 2013, RMU ranked second in total defense within league play, finishing in the top two in that category for the third time in five years. Farison helped the RMU defense finish the regular season among the top 25 nationally in a number of defensive categories including third-down defense, first downs allowed, passing defense, red zone defense, passing efficiency defense, turnovers gained and total defense. Farison has been directly responsible for helping four different Colonials to NEC Defensive Player of the Year honors within the past decade, including two within the past four years. He has also assisted two Colonials to NEC Defensive Rookie of the Year honors in his time at RMU. In Farison's seven seasons as defensive coordinator, he has seen RMU claim 21 All-NEC awards on the defensive side of the ball. Farison had spent the past decade as the recruiting coordinator for Robert Morris, but as part of the move, Banaszak announced that assistant coach Andrew Richardson would assume that role. Richardson, the team's offensive line coach, is in his eighth season on staff with RMU. In Richardson's seven seasons on staff, RMU offensive linemen have claimed seven All-NEC honors with two separate Colonials earning All-America awards.

Robert Morris in the 2014 NEC StatsThe Founding Father - The one constant in the first two decades of Colonial football was former head coach Joe Walton. Walton, the former NFL tight end and head coach of the New York Jets, started the program from scratch, com-pleting everything from hiring assistants to purchasing equipment. He was named NEC Coach of the Year four times in 18 seasons and guided RMU to a pair of NCAA I-AA mid-major national crowns during his time on the side-lines. Walton, currently a special assistant to the athletic director at Robert Morris, was inducted in the RMU Athletic Hall of Fame last November.

Get To The Chopper - A quick glance at RMU’s record when broken down proves how important it is the Colonials get off to a good start in contests. When Robert Morris is leading at halftime, the program owns an all-time record of 89-13 (.873). When trailing at the break, Robert Morris owns a mark of 12-73-1 (.145). Even going into halftime tied is beneficial, as the Colonials own an overall record of 14-9 (.609) in such games.

The Magic Mark - Since the Colonials began play in 1994, there have been 76 games in which Robert Morris has scored 30 or more points. In those contests RMU boasts a record of 71-5 (.934), including a record of 42-5 (.894) in games in which the team scores between 30 and 39 points. RMU Football Historical Tidbits - The inaugural running back at Robert Morris, the late Tim Hall (1994-95), rushed for 2,908 yards in his two seasons as a Colonial. Hall still owns the FCS season and career records for yards per carry, with his season record of 8.7 yards per carry set in 1994 and his two-year career record of 7.4 established in 1994 and 1995 ... Hall also ranks fourth all-time in the FCS in both rushing yards per game (153.1) and all-purpose yards per game (194.8) ... Former Colonial linebacker James Noel (2002-05) ranks sixth in the FCS record book for career tackles per game (10.7), while his career tackle total of 437 takedowns ranks 14th all-time ... Former linebacker and current assistant coach Alex DiMichele (2008-10) averaged 10 tackles per game over his three years in a Robert Morris uniform, which ranks 13th all-time in the FCS record book ... Robert Morris has topped the nation in passing defense twice in the past 15 years, based on passing efficiency defense rating. The Colonials topped the charts in 1999 (with a 80.80 rating) as well as in 2006 (with a 88.70 rating).

Did You Know? - Robert Morris owns the all-time FCS record for the most consecutive quarters while holding an opponent scoreless. During the 1996 season, the Colonials went 15 straight quarters without allowing a single point. In fact, the record-setting streak occurred at the beginning of the sea-son. RMU posted three straight shutouts -- 20-0 against Mercyhurst (9/7), 38-0 against Butler (9/14) and 7-0 against Towson State (9/21) -- to open the campaign and then held Central Connecticut State (9/28) scoreless for the first three quarters before finally allowing a point for the first time all sea-son. In all, Robert Morris went 234:04 before allowing a point in 1996. RMU went 9-2 (.818) in 1996, claiming a share of the NEC championship, and con-ceded just 12.9 points per game.

Robert Morris CaptainsHead coach John Banaszak has elected to continue with the basic setup that Robert Morris used in regard to its captains a year ago. RMU has chosen two captains—one offensive and one defensive—for the duration of the sea-son. An additional captain(s) will be chosen each game week on a rotating basis. The extra captain(s) could come from any area of the team.

OFFENSERedshirt senior Jon Hill was selected as the team’s captain on the offensive end. Hill is the most experienced offen-sive lineman on the roster, having played in 28 career games. He started every game at right tackle in 2013 and also started at right guard during the 2012 campaign. Hill actually entered Robert Morris as a defensive lineman coming out of high school, but he was transitioned to the offensive side of the ball before his sophomore season.

DEFENSESenior Antwan Eddie was named as the team’s captain on the defensive end. Eddie is a three-year letterwinner and two-year starter at cornerback for the Colonials. He claimed all-conference honors at both defensive back and return specialist last season after breaking the single-season school record for punt return yards. He owns 92 tackles, seven interceptions and 419 punt return yards in his career. He earned Third Team All-America honors from The Sports Network at punt returner a year ago.

Colonial football games are heard live on ESPN Radio AM-970 Pittsburgh, the flagship station of Robert Morris University athletics. ESPN 970 and RMU reached a three-year agreement in the summer of 2013 to broadcast foot-ball, men’s basketball and men’s hockey games. The Voice of the Colonials, Chris Shovlin, and color analyst Brian Cleary call the football action. RMU Assistant Sports Information Director Spencer Kowitz joins Shovlin as color analyst for select Colonial road games. "The John Banaszak Show" is on 30 minutes prior to kickoff. Games can also be heard on the station’s website, www.970espn.com, as well as on iHeartRadio. RMU home and league games can be seen live for free on NEC Front Row, the conference’s online digital net-work. The league has added multiple upgrades this year, including the ability to transmit live events in HD as well as providing the ability for the viewer to use a DVR-style, in-game real-time rewind feature.

Colonials in the NFLSince Robert Morris played its first season in 1994, three former Colonials have appeared in a game in the National Football League (NFL), the most among current NEC members in this span as of August 2014. Many players have “rewritten” record books at various schools. At Robert Morris, however, Tim Hall wrote the record book. Hall rushed for 2,908 yards on 393 carries in his two seasons in a Colonial uniform and was named an All-American by the Associated Press in 1995. He was drafted by the Oakland Raiders in the sixth round (183rd player overall) in the 1996 NFL Draft. In 1997, he led the Raiders in yards per carry average with 5.2 and was second in rushing yards to Napolean Kaufman. On Sept. 30, 1998, Hall was shot and killed in Kansas City at age 24. Hank Fraley, who played on the offensive line for Robert Morris from 1996-1999, carved out a niche for himself in the NFL for over a decade. Fraley was a three-time Mid-Major All-American during his years at RMU before he was signed by the Pittsburgh Steelers to a free-agent contract in April 2000. Fraley was later claimed by the Eagles and started at center for Philadelphia for the entire 2001 season, helping the team to the 2002 NFC Championship game. For four straight seasons with Fraley starting at center from 2002-05, the Eagles appeared in the NFC Championship game. In 2005, Fraley became the first RMU alum to appear in the Super Bowl when he started at center against the New England Patriots in Super Bowl XXXIX. Former RMU defensive back Robb Butler played for the San Diego Chargers during the 2004 season and was featured in special teams situations, including returning kickoffs.
