Use chemistry, business,microbiology, engineering and other sciences to come up with better ways ofpreserving, processing, packaging,storing and delivering foods.

Food science classes at Clemson provide you with practical experiencethrough projects, team research, collegiate competitions, Co-ops and internships. For instance, students in aproduct development class created newsalad dressings for Naturally Fresh Corp. in Atlanta, Ga. Their contact at the company was a graduate of Clemson’sfood science program.

A degree in food science gives youmany career options. Companies such asFrito Lay, Kraft and Cryovac have a highdemand for well-educated food scienceand nutrition graduates. Additionally,government agencies need graduates forfood safety and regulatory positions. Thejob placement rate for food science

graduates is strong, with medianstarting salaries of $44,000 in 2011.

The Department of Food, Nutrition,and Packaging Sciences has a �exible curriculum. The food science and technology concentration prepares youfor careers such as a food safety regulatoror culinary scientist.
