Message from your Exalted Ruler

Greetings fellow Elks, I hope summer finds you well! First and foremost, an update from Grand Lodge. Regarding the voting on resolutions, there were some surprising and some expected results. 2015-1 (To allow organizations other than ladies groups to be recognized as auxiliaries) failed as it did not get the 2/3rds majority. The majority vote did reaffirm that the “social facility” must remain closed during Lodge meetings. For the complete listing, go to www.elks.org/convention/ and click on the link for Resolution Voting Results. Jean Lange from Baraboo #688 was installed as our new DDGER and Ronald Hicks as Grand Exalted Ruler. At convention, GER Hicks shared his message for the year about rebuilding Elks Pride. The B.P.O.E. has returned over $262 million dollars in time and money back to our communities in the last year! Definitely worth being proud! I also took ample time to meet with ER’s and PERs from around the state and country to pick their brains about their failures and successes…which leads me to my next point.

There have been some questions as to when we will be off of probation. My best guess, is not soon. After we presented our strategic plan to the Lodge, there was some great fervor and pledges of support both financially, and of time. To the few that followed through, I thank you from the bottom of my heart. We are slowly moving in the right direction, but we need more than 10% of our Lodge to participate to be successful. Those involved don’t have a lot more time to give and we are quickly reaching the finite limit of all our resources. In light of a recent staffing change, there have been quite a few questions about how the Lodge Officers and I “plan on doing” or “intend on handling” things. This is a volunteer run organization and we were elected to lead. If you want to see success in various aspects of our operation, from events to bowling, your question really needs to be “What can I do to help?”

Fraternally,

Joe Leventhal Exalted Ruler

“Community Focus” will put a

“face” on our Lodges

Message from Our Grand Exalted Ruler

I offer my sincere thanks and apprecia-tion for the faith and trust you have places in me to serve as your Grand Exalted Ruler. It is indeed my honor and privilege to accept this role and my desire to show that your confidence has nor been misplaced. As Nancy and I travel our great country, visit your Lodges, and attend your State Associa-tion meetings, we know we will be inspired to hear about your many acts of kindness, charity and brotherly love. It is our hope that we can return the favor by inspiring you to build on those endeavors in order to accomplish even more in the name of Elkdom. “Elks Pride — Community Focus” is my theme for the year. It speaks to our responsibility to each other and to our obligation to the communities we serve. “Elks Pride” is the expression of dignity, joy and self-respect. It begins with each of us and is driven by a positive attitude and a “can-do” spirit, and heightened by the Members around us who share our thoughts, vision and values. Elk Pride helps us to realize our potential, develop healthy relationships within our Lodges, and increases the desire to do more and better for our Members and for the people we serve.

“Community Focus” is the emphasis we place on the concern, commitment and benefit of Elkdom to our communi-ties, and it can be greatly enhanced when supported and promoted through “Elks Pride.” Service to our communi-ties is responsibility we all share, and it should be a priority for every Lodge. We offer great appeal to those who know who we are and what w a Elks! By strengthening our “Community Focus,“ we introduce or friends and neighbors to more and more of our good works, share the Pride that comes with being an Elk, and prove ourselves to be a reliable partner for the community to you, put a “face” on your Lodge, and create awareness and interest in your Lodge and Elkdom. Can everyone say “Membership”? There are so many ways to develop and promote “Elks Pride and Community Focus.” As Nancy and I Visit with you during the year, we look forward to discussing your ideas. Thanks again for the trust you have placed in us and may God bless you all. Follow our travels on Facebook and at www.virginiaelks.org/GER_Ron_Hicks_Blog.htm

ELKS NATIONAL FOUNDATION

Per Member donations as of July 9, 2015 $9.34 per member

Last week, I attended the Elks National Convention in Indianapolis, Indiana. While there, I attended the Elks National Foundation’s special celebration for their 10 year anniversary of their CIP (Community Investment Program). Hopefully you are aware of this program; it is where we receive grant funds from the ENF to help us promote the Elks here in the Fond du Lac community.

The program consisted of a review of where the CIP started 10 years ago, with just two grants (Gratitude, Promise) available to Lodges across the country. Ten years later, there are five grants available (Gratitude, Promise, Beacon, Impact, Freedom Grant/Veterans) to every Lodge which qualifies and applies for them. The Gratitude and the Promise grants started at $1,000 each, and are now $2,500 each. The Impact can be as much as $10,000 and the Beacon Grant and the Freedom Grant are both $2,000.

As I have mentioned before, our Lodge has been very fortunate to have received several of these grants over the past 10 years helping our Lodge support numerous community projects and programs here in Fond du Lac. Because several of our members see the value in supporting the Elks National Foundation with a yearly donation, we will continue to become eligible to apply for these ENF Grants.

These Lodge #57 members have attained the next level in donations to the Foundation:

Tony Halfman $500, Joe Leventhal $500, Claudia Beaster-Christie $250, Scott Reath $250, Gordon Worm $250, Richard Casper $100, Mathew Immel $100.

Also, we have five new members to the ENF: Daniel Feyen, Jeff Gravelle, Ron Kapolnek, Louie Lange III, and Melissa Worthington. Welcome to each of you on behalf of the ENF.

Remember, all donations to the Foundation are tax deductible, and by donating, you are helping our Lodge to promote good deeds here in Fond du Lac.

Let’s keep working together!

Don Behnke, PER Lodge #57 ENF Chairman

To Our Elk’s Family: Where is the time going? When you read this article we are already four months into our Lodge year. Mary and I along with Rob and Michelle have been busy traveling our State promoting Membership, ENF, WBF and our State Major Project. To the Lodges we have visited we Thank You for the great Hospitality!! By reading your newsletters, our Lodges have been very visible in our communities by hosting youth banquets, Flag Day Ceremonies, marching in Memorial and Fourth of July Parades and many more activities in our communities. We are very visible which is awesome. Mary and I along with our State and lodge officers and members of our Association just returned from our National Convention in Indianapolis fully reenergized to promote Elkdom in our communities. I had the honor of carrying our State flag to the stage. I can’t tell you what a great feeling it was which I will never forget. Thank You for the Great Honor. I will like to recognize PSP Bob and Char Bohnsack and his committee for their countless hours of working our State Major Project booth. Their hard work paid off by being recognized (awarded) the 5 Star Certificate for one of the top exhibit booths at the convention. Also, being recognized was PER Jerry Brien from Kaukauna #962 as the National “Rookie of the Year” chairman for the Drug Awareness Committee. As we all know, some things must come to an end. After 26 years, PSP Jim Meyer has decided to retire from the Grand Lodge Convention Committee. With that being said, we were treated again to a weeklong of plenty of food, drinks and camaraderie. Thank you to you and your committee for your hard work and dedicated service!! Now that we have returned from the National Convention reenergized we need to stay focused on membership. As you know by now, my message during our visits is on membership. My goal is to be +1 for the year. Like my kids tell me “YOU CAN DO IT” so just ask!! As of July 1st, we were number 1 in the country for having the lowest delinquency percentage (11%). To our membership committees, please, continue reaching out to all of our delinquent members to pay their dues and bring back (reinstate) members that have left our order. Also, please don’t wait to initiate new members. Bring them in a timely manner otherwise they might lose interest. (M&M= Membership Matters). As you know by now, our fall conference has been moved to September 10th -13th. We hope to see you there and show off our Wisconsin Welcome (Hospitality) to our Grand Exalted Ruler Ron Hicks, our First Lady Nancy and our State Sponsor’s PGER Lou and Beth Sulsberger. SEE YOU SOON!!
