German silent film musician and composer Pierre Oser is coming to Manilafor the 3rd time this year to grace the 9th International Silent Film Festivaluntil Aug 30 at the Edsa Shangri-La Plaza Mandaluyong City

Working with Pierre for this gig is Filipino virtuoso Jaimar Palispisassociate director of the group KontraGaPi (Kontemporaryong GamelanPilipino) an official ethnic music and dance ensemble of the University ofthe Philippines Diliman

Pierre and Jaimar have been exchanging notes for months in preparationfor the festival Together they are writing the musical accompaniment toGermanyrsquos entry Walther Ruttmannrsquos hour-long documentary about theGerman capital titled ldquoBerlin die Sinfonie der Groszligstadtrdquo (ldquoBerlinSymphony of a Great Cityrdquo) Pierre Jaimar and his band Big Jazz Balloonwill accompany the screening live on Aug 29 5 pm at Shangri-La PlazarsquosCinema 2

Jaimar and Pierre are coming upwith a piece that will incorporate anassortment of indigenous Filipinoinstruments and will showcase abrand of jazz spiced with a uniqueFilipino flavor Big Jazz Balloonrsquosldquoethnic sectionrdquo will include sets ofKulintang Agong and Gandinganfrom Mindanao and a number ofbamboo instruments from theCordilleras
