Folk songs •Bangladesh has a rich folk music, which includes
both religious and secular songs• Folk songs and music of a community,
uninfluenced by any sophisticated musical rules or any standard Music styles.
History • traced back to 8th century between (1800-1850)
A.D; which was the time for growth of Charya Geeti. • The folk song of Bangladesh is a mixture of
Vaishnaism and Sufism. •Also classified as being an emotional, secular,
sectarian and religious song
Variety• songs being composed on the culture, festivals, views
of life, natural beauty, rivers and reverie life. • also about social inequality and poverty, about the
material world and the supernatural.• Mystical songs composed using the metaphors of
rivers and boats.

• Hason raja• Kiratn • Kabi gan• jari• Gambhira
Baul • Baul is the most commonly known
category of Bangladeshi folk songs. • performed by hermits, followers of
Sufism.• simple words expressing songs with
deeper meanings involving creation, society, lifestyle and human emotions.• little musical support, the main carrier
the vocal.
Lalon songs• Best known of all folk songs and
the most import subgenre of Baul songs,• almost entirely attributed to
spiritual writer and composer, Lalon Fokir of Kushtia. • Is also known as “Baul Samrat”
BhatiyaliThese types of songs are generally sung by boatman. It is seen nearly all regions of Bangladesh, basically the riverside area.
Bhawaiya
• Actually this kind of songs are sung by the Coachman
• Specially Rajshahi, Dinajpur, Rangpur, and Pabna.
Jarigan• Jarigan sung as like as Charya by groups. • sung in Dhaka, Mymensingh, Sylhet, and Faridpur.
Hason Raja•Devotional songs written by a
music composer by the name of Hason Raja • Sylhet, northeastern side of
Bangladesh near Assam• recently repopularised as dance
music.
Instruments •Bangladesh has a good number of musical
instruments originally of her own.• Those instruments were used for folk music

Present Condition• The condition of folk song in our country is very
poor. • Now a day our rich traditional folk song inevitable
influenced by western music and culture.
Present Condition• Band and pop music is getting popular in country.
• Now the modern Bangla song and also the folk song
sung in western melody.

Solution1. We have to do a lot of concert of folk music.2. Government has to increase its attempts for folk
music.3. The number of the sponsor should be increased.4. Create a permanent academy for folk music.5. Increase interest of music companies.6. Ensure the financial stability of the folk singers.

should be protected.

organization providing encouragement and popularizing Bangladeshi folk song.
