PESA Bydgoszcz SA performs major overhauls with modernization work, and revision repairs with modernization work, as well as revision repairs of passenger coaches, compartmentalized coaches, open-space coaches, sleeping coaches, and re-staurant and buffet coaches. Using the existing vehicle bodies, we arrange their interior in com-pliance with clients’ expectations.

Open-space coachPassengers with bikes who intend to travel by train can use the upgraded open-space coaches - the 111Arow - with spaces for transporting bikes. To facilitate travelling, the coaches also feature racks for bigger luggage. The 111Arow coaches can travel at up to 160 km/h. Some of them have air-conditioning and closed-circuit WCs. Travelling comfort is also enhanced by comfortable seats

with folding tables and night/day blinds. With sli-ding plug doors in some of the coaches, getting on and off the vehicle is much easier.

Sleeping coach - WLPESA also designs and upgrades sleeping coaches. With folding beds the comfortable compartments can be used by passengers night and day. We did not forget about preserving the environment in the course of their modernisation The vehicles have closed-circuit WCs, while the coal boiler in some of the coaches was replaced with a water boiler with electric heating. Passengers travelling with note-books can use electric sockets to charge them. The aesthetics of coaches is enhanced by the mo-dular interior, used not only in the compartments but also in the corridor and vestibules. Sliding plug doors facilitate getting on and off the vehicle.

EuronightAnother product by PESA is the modern Euronight sleeping coach - air-conditioned, with individual armchairs for travelling during the daytime. It has compartments of 1st and 2nd class and two compartments of business class with a bathroom, fridge and DVD audiovisual system. It is possible to combine two compartments into one. The coach features a compartment and toilet for the disabled. The coach interior has been designed in a modular system using polyester and glass fibre elements. The Euronight guarantees comfortable conditions for work and rest during the journey. Its pleasing texture and colours are tailored to the client’s needs.

Restaurant coachBy upgrading and modernizing the interior of the restau-rant coach (see the photos above) we have increased its comfort to a significant degree. New comfortable armchairs and couches, DVD and LCD-based audiovisual systems, as well as air-conditioning guarantee excellent rest and entertainment during the journey. We have also made things easier for the coach staff by fitting modern ergonomic equipment in the compartments for the train staff and kitchen compartments.

Passenger coach - open-space/compartmentalizedThis modern coach comprises one general passenger area for 53 passengers, one compartment of 1st class for six passengers, and one business compartment for one passenger, as well as a compartment for a guard and a closed-circuit WC.It is designed for passenger transport on 1520 mm tracks. It was built in compliance with the GOST speci-fication (in compliance with the standards for vehicles operating in Eastern European markets) to be operated at up to 160 km/h. Comfortable modern seats, air-conditioning, and the audio-visual system offer high standards of travelling comfort for passengers. The coach was built by PESA Bydgoszcz SA in cooperation with OAO Krukowski Zakład Budowy Wagonów.

Buffet coachPESA Bydgoszcz SA was the first of the Polish rolling stock companies to design and modernise a buffet co-ach (see the pictures above), with a compartmentalized passenger sections with seats. We have separated out four 6-person passenger compartments in the coach, along with the catering area and train staff area. In the catering area there are six tables with bar stools. The leather seats and tables in the buffet area ensure a high standard and modern look. Kitchen and buffet equip-ment has been made of top-quality stainless steel. The coach is fully air-conditioned. In addition, it has been ada-pted to meet the requirements of RIC transport.

Special coachPESA Bydgoszcz SA can meet even the non-standard expectations of clients as regards coach interior equip-ment and arrangement. The Saloon carriage, a richly-equipped coach of high technical and operating para-meters, ensures the highest travelling comfort. It has a conference room with modern audio-visual systems, which facilitates the organization of business meetings, as well as an office, sleeping section and working section. Full air-conditioning is available.

Repairs and upgrades of locosFor many years PESA has been involved in upgrading and repairing diesel and electric locos (see the pictures above). Its services include revision repairs and major overhauls of engines of all series.

Modernization projects are now a significant part of PE-SA’s portfolio of orders. Primarily drive systems undergo modernization. As a result, the service life of engines is extended, maintenance costs are reduced by 50%, fuel consumption by 15-25%, and engine oil consumption is reduced twofold, inter-repair periods are longer, while the vehicle’s reliability and the driver’s working condi-tions are improved. When performing modernizations, PESA uses only mo-dern diesel engines and generators from the leading glo-bal producers. The driver’s cabs are also upgraded to improve the aesthetics and comfort of the drivers’ work. The company’s comprehensive projects make it possible for operators to use their locos for another 25 years. In projects completed in recent years PESA has utilized the concept of multiple power generators. It was one of the first companies in Europe to do so.

The first loco modernized by PESA following this con-cept is the SM42 loco with two power generators (see the picture below). It matches world design trends and

clients’ expectations with respect to technical and ope-rational parameters. The two power generators elimina-te extremely high fuel consumption - a typical problem of standard shunting locos.

The application of multiple power generators in the upgraded locos has the following advantages:

operation with higher diesel engine efficiency resulting in reduced fuel consumption;

improved visibility from the driver’s cab by reducing the height of engine sections if small diesel engines are mo-unted;

lower costs of purchasing and repairing the diesel en-gine, because a typical machine engine in serial produc-tion is installed, which meets the current requirements for railway exhaust emissions;

lower maintenance costs due to:- extended loco mileage between periodic repairs;- smaller wear of engine parts;- lower prices of spare parts; lower oil consumption;very high index of technological readiness; modular structure enabling fast replacement of a con-

tainer with a damaged component, or a component that should be repaired;

increased tractive force due to better weight distri- bution.
