PESA Bydgoszcz SA deals with rail rolling stock construction, upgrading and repairs. It is a Polish company with more than 160 years of tradition, but at the same time it is very modern and respon-sive to market needs.

PESA’s mission, and also the ambition of all our employees (most of whom are young, some being the top graduates of Polish universities), is putting into service top-quality products which satisfy our clients and users. We cooperate with leading re-search and scientific centres, but our strength is, most of all, our highly-skilled and experienced team. From a design developed by a team of 200 desi-gners working in the R&D Department to the re-ady vehicle, tested on our own test tracks, all pro-ducts are created in the manufacturing process performed only by PESA Bydgoszcz.

Our position today as the leader among Polish ma-nufacturers of rail vehicles is an effect of product and market diversification. The diversity of vehicles manufactured by PESA is reflected in its range, which comprises trams, diesel and electrical multi-ple units, along with locomotives. Recently, the flag-

ship products of our brand comprise the Swing and Twist trams, electric Elf, diesel Link and the Gama loco. Our products can be found in every region of Poland, while the list of foreign countries to which we have delivered our vehicles keeps getting longer. After our oldest export markets, namely Ukraine, Lithuania and Belarus, since 2008 PESA’s diesel trains have been used by passengers in Italy, and since 2012 in Kazakhstan. The Swing trams, ha-ving won one of the largest tenders in Europe for the delivery of 186 vehicles to Warsaw, have appe-ared in Hungary and Romania. Diesel vehicles are currently being built for operators in Germany, the Czech Republic and Russia.

A manifold increase in our production and the co-nquest of many new markets in recent years are a consequence of both technological acceleration and quality enhancements in the organization of our production processes. They now meet the highest standards, as documented by, e.g. presti-gious certificates: Q1 and IRIS 02. But we are far from resting on our laurels. PESA keeps focusing on development and keeping up the fast pace it has set itself.

PESA Bydgoszcz SA, which still has a firm foothold in the market of loco repairs and upgrading (an example of which is the 6Dk [SM42] with two power generators), has built a loco of its own design based on the Gama platform. The family will comprise, e.g. multi-voltage electrical locos, powered with 3kV DC, 15kV AC, or 25kV AC, along with diesel locos of 2200kW. The first vehicle of the GAMA platform is an electric four-axle loco, with 5600 kW of power, powered with 3kV DC voltage, designated as 111Ed, with the „Marathon” diesel system.

PESA Bydgoszcz SA has built some new-generation electric multiple units. First of all, the ELFs, the first Polish family of vehicles which complies with the requirements of the four collision scenarios. Among them there are vehicles used in Śląskie Province to render regional traffic, and vehicles designed for conurbation traffic, wearing the livery of Szybka Kolej Miejska in Warsaw.

The new-generation DMU Link, which also meets the requirements of the four collision scenarios, is produced for clients in Poland, Germany and the Czech Republic, while the ATR220 units have been in use in Italy since 2008. The biggest advantages offered by these vehicles include the cost-efficient new generation engine, air-conditioning, as well as monitoring and information systems. The vehicles are suitable for disabled people.

The cost-efficient operation of the diesel multiple units offered by PESA Bydgoszcz for 1520 mm tracks makes it possible to restore local connections on railway lines where transport services rendered with a set of loco+coaches have become unfeasible, or it improves the profitability on railway lines already in operation. The platform of electric ELFs - with configurations comprising 2-10 cars - can render services in conurbation, regional and interregional traffic. All the vehicles meet the GOST requirements.

Modern, low-floor trams by PESA feature a body that has a modern look and a harmonious shape. The Swing trams are the ones selected by Warsaw in 2009 in a tender for 186 units. The Swing was also the first Polish tram to be exported to foreign markets, i.e. Hungary and Romania. Twist, the latest tram from PESA, is a solution for smaller urban centres, and it has already made its debut in Częstochowa.
