17thSeptember 2015
Dear Parent
We would to welcome both returning Year 1 & Year 2 and new Year R parents to the start
of a fresh academic year of fund-raising activities organised by the Friends of Fair Oak
Infant School (FoFOIS) committee.
2014/15 Fundraising
Last academic year, we raised over 10,000 for the school thanks to the support from
parents, staff & pupils so thank you for all of your help!
Although the committees initial fundraising target for 2014/15 was to increase thetechnology within the school, we were approached with the idea of contributing towards
the renovation of the cookery room. With the change in curriculum focusing on healthy
eating & living, the committee voted in favour of supporting this change in fundraising
target and the work began over the summer holidays. Please look out for photos in
upcoming school bulletins showing the amazing new cookery room, we hope the children will
really enjoy using it!
Upcoming events
The next meeting of FoFOIS will be our AGM and is to be held on Thursday 24 thSeptember at 7pm in the
staffroom. All parents automatically become Friends however, you may feel you would like to be more closely
involved. We are looking for committee members and event volunteers, as well as new ideas to ensure ourevents are successful.
We are a small group of parents & staff who are responsible for all aspects of planning social and fundraising
events. Some members of the committee are also the trustees as the organisation is a registered charity;
they oversee how the funds are spent with the aim of providing additional resources for the children of the
school.
Over the past few years, the committee raised money to purchase a new sun shelter in the World Garden and
new equipment for the playground, as well as contributing towards school trips and as mentioned above, the
renovation of the cookery room.
During the AGM, the previous committee members will stand down from their positions and we will elect the
following key roles:
-

banking & handling of money at events.
Secretarywilling to take the minutes of committee meetings, type them and send them to the chair
for approval and then distribute to committee members.
Raffle and Licencing Coordinatorwill take responsibility for the legal paperwork in relation to raffles
which involves applying for the licence and sending returns on number of tickets sold, organising the
printing of tickets, and the posting of letters requesting donations. Application of licences necessary
for events.
Vice Chairwill support the Chair in setting of agenda items, act as Chair to meetings in the absenceof the Chair.
Chair organise schedule of meetings, produce agendas and Chair meetings. Establishment of sub
committees for event management. Complete Health and Safety paperwork and follow Charity
Commission procedures.
We will also be discussing and agreeing upon the fund-raising targets for 2015/16 We would invite all parents
to provide input into this decision by either attending the AGM, or you can email us on the address above.
The Committee meets half termly in the evenings, with meetings usually lasting about 1 1/2 hours. If you do
not want to commit to becoming a fulltime committee member we also need a group of people willing to
contribute their time to help with events. For example, at our fayres we need people to sort throughdonations and price these up, help in running stalls, folding raffle tickets, setting up tables and chairs.
Being a part of the Friends of Fair Oak Infant School will help raise funds to help the school, put you in touch
with new friends and is an enjoyable role. If you would like to find out more please come to our meeting on
Thursday 24thor alternatively please fill in the reply slip below and return it to the school office.
Details of our other events happening in the first half of the Autumn term will be issued in separate letters
over the next few weeks so please look out for them.
We look forward to meeting you at one of our events
Yours sincerely
