Their house will be rented out and Sa’ad insists that he wants to come back and retire here! I am sure that everyone will send their thanks to him for keeping the shop going and their best wishes for the future. We are now delighted to welcome Emilia and Michael Erdei who have taken over the shop and Post Office. Emilia is keen to provide what the village wants and will be putting up a Suggestions Box in the shop, so it is up to you to help her to help you. The Post Office will be continuing and shop hours will stay the same initially, though they are likely to be extended, particularly when a licence is obtained so that alcohol can be sold. is falling apart.• A Tour de France commemorative sign provided by Sport Nidderdale has been placed on

Stocks Green. This will form part of a bicycle trail around Nidderdale which will soon be launched.

• The Council is interested in pursuing the idea of a small number of affordable homes for local people in the vlllage. Rural Housing Enablers from Harrogate Borough Council and North Yorkshire will be attending the Parish Council meeting on 27 October to make a presentation about what is involved. All parishioners are very welcome to attend.!

The next meeting of the Council will be on 27 October. Please contact the Clerk on 780970 or [email protected] if you have any queries about Council matters.

Darley Community Christmas CardIt is time to think about  the community Christmas card that Focus on Darley  will be organising.  This year the uniformed groups are going to take part in a competition to design the card. Last year we raised £160 for St Michael’s Hospice , this year we intend to support Martin House. The card will be in colour and will be distributed in the next  issue of Focus on Darley, out 1st December. The idea is to include in it as many messages as we can! That way, you can avoid the expense and time of writing individual cards to community members. The idea is simple:!1. Devise the greeting you would like to send to the village. It could be something like “All our best

wishes for the Festive Season. The Smiths, Corner Farm”, or something more personal or homorous!!

 2. Send in your message to Angela Houseman at:[email protected]. Put a £5 cheque in an envelope, payable to Focus on Darley, and leave at Darley Post Office or give to Angela. DEADLINE: November 5th!!!

Darley in Bloom!Darley in Bloom is putting on the North Country Theatre's play "A Month in the Country" on Thursday November 13th at Darley Memorial Hall.  It is based on JL Carr's prize winning novel, which became a 1980s hit movie starring Colin Firth, Kenneth Branagh and Natasha Richardson. The story tells of two men returned from World War 1, who work together in a North Yorkshire village and uncover an ancient village mystery. The plot includes hidden passions and the healing power of the countryside. Tickets are £10 (£6 for under 16s), tea and biscuits will be served in the interval and there will be raffle prizes.
